00:00Judah perhaps looking ahead to a big showdown with Costas Zoo and coming up next our main event Mike Tyson versus Andrew Gulotta
00:08as we take you backstage into the dressing room of both Tyson and Gulotta making final preparations
00:15Tyson doing some singing, Gulotta a little shadow boxing and despite careers once filled with promise
00:20tonight's combatants have become infamous for their violent indiscretions in the ring
00:24a look back now at the checkered histories of Tyson and Gulotta
00:30Mike Tyson now so vilified was once the most charismatic and celebrated fighter of his
00:40generation but over the last four years his career has been indelibly marred by controversies
00:46and inexplicable fouls
00:49Tyson showing desperation and fighting Holyfield two times
00:56look out now four fighting in the ring after the end of the fight and Tyson is just taking
01:03swipes at anybody in front of him look at me look at me I gotta go home and my kids are gonna be scared
01:08come on come on come on come on come on come on come on come on all right break oh and he hits him after the foul and Norris goes down and here we go again
01:30Tyson hit Norris after the foul
01:37a morons by Tyson the referee John Coyle steps in between and he continues Coyle trying to stop it
01:46I was gonna rip his heart out I'm the best ever and I'm just ferocious I want your heart I want to eat his children
01:51Tyson's opponent Andrew Gulotta has not exactly earned himself a reputation as a choir boy either
02:00his blatant low blows and enigmatic behavior were never more apparent than in his two battles against Riddick Bowe
02:08oh Gulotta is hitting below the belt
02:13Gulotta again with low blows
02:17look at this
02:17Bowe goes down
02:18that's it
02:20Gulotta is disqualified
02:21Gulotta is absolutely unbelievable
02:34as they prepare for tonight's contest both combatants hope their bout will not deteriorate
02:50into an embarrassing foul fest
02:53he should be very nice to me he should initiate anything as far as any foul tactics
03:00I really hope he doesn't do that I don't think he will
03:03I don't think he's dirty you know I don't think anybody's dirty you know in the ring
03:08but the thing is you know
03:11he might lose his focus you know in the fights
03:14I don't want to get in a dirty fight with nobody he doesn't want to
03:16I'm sure he doesn't want to get in a dirty fight with me
03:18I come to the fight you know whatever he does whatever he starts I finish you know
03:23I'm not gonna do that I'm not gonna wrestle with anybody I'm gonna land my fist on his face and his ribs
03:28well the question now is this have Tyson and Gulotta learned from their past transgressions
03:38will they enter tonight's bout with the intent to fight by the rules
03:41or are they already resigned to the notion of foul play
03:44particularly after hearing and reading how almost everyone is expecting the worst
03:48let me bring on my ringside partner former world champion Bobby Chez
03:51Bobby if Tyson's conduct is okay and he comes up with a victory does he get to return to the big money venues in Nevada
04:00I think Las Vegas will welcome him with open arms he still generates the big bucks
04:04he makes the most money for the venues everywhere throughout the world especially Las Vegas
04:08what if he self-destructs and fouls out again
04:11you know it's not inconceivable if he fouls out that here in Michigan they'll ban him and that they'll ban him throughout the United States
04:17I don't think that that's gonna happen but boy I'll tell you what you never know
04:20what about the referee situation Frank Garza is very inexperienced
04:24he's had only one title fight this isn't a title fight but still
04:27I mean experienced referees have had their difficulties with Tyson
04:31now you throw Gulotta into the mix doesn't a fight of this magnitude on this level call for a more seasoned third man of the ring
04:37I completely agree I think that a referee who's had who has a proven track record
04:42who's proven himself in big fights tough fights who's made tough decision split second reactions
04:47can make the difference change lives and history here
04:50I think a better referee would have been better suited for this fight
04:53plus a size factor he's only 5'8 172 against these hulking heavyweights
04:58that's not going to be easy
05:00well Mills Lane's not a big man a small man in size but a big man in stature
05:03he controls the fighters in the ring he knows his business he does it well
05:07all right Tyson and Gulotta two freight trains heading straight for each other
05:11a matchup that has captured the imagination of many people
05:14including boxing commentator painter and writer Ferdi Pacheco better known as the fight doctor
05:19Ferdi takes a personal look at tonight's star attraction in this latest installment of the doctor is in
05:25once considered a candidate to stand with Dempsey, Lewis, Marciano and Ali
05:36Tyson is now a defrocked bully
05:38incapable of assuming accountability for his actions and for accepting the responsibility
05:43he has to the sport of boxing and to his audience
05:46when Tyson was sentenced to an Indianapolis penitentiary
05:49I resolved to write to him after every Showtime fight
05:53I had no great personal friendship with Mike
05:55nor was I a fan of his in particular
05:58but as a member of the boxing fraternity I was just trying to lighten his load
06:01well for almost two years he never wrote back
06:03but one day to my surprise I received this letter
06:06and in it he said and I quote
06:08believe it or not I always liked you as a man
06:12but I never knew how to take you
06:14because I am a great believer that we must distrust one another
06:20it's our only defense against being betrayed
06:23I never heard from him again
06:24with a philosophy like that
06:26is it any wonder that Tyson can implode at any time
06:29ending what could have been one of boxing's greatest careers
06:32and more tragically a life filled with promise
06:35could this implosion happen tonight
06:37against the equally unpredictable and volatile Andrew Gulotta
06:41I for one sincerely hope not
06:44this is the fight doctor
06:46and this is my diagnosis
06:51well that's why we're here
06:52to see what happens between Tyson and Gulotta
06:54to see if somebody implodes or explodes
06:56or whatever the heck goes on here
06:59it really has been a stressful thing
07:01trying to get ready for this fight
07:02with all the craziness going on
07:03but Bobby is the winner of this fight
07:05ready for the winner of the upcoming
07:07title fight between Lennox Lewis and David Tua
07:10I think certainly the winner of this fight
07:12is going to be right there
07:14he's going to be knocking on the door
07:15of a world championship fight
07:16with Lennox Lewis or David Tua
07:18my personal pick is that Tua wins
07:20so that the Lewis Tyson possible showdown
07:22gets put aside at least for now
07:24and I think that either way
07:26the winner of this fight shows he's ready to go
07:27what if there are some promotional problems
07:29if there is say a Tyson Lewis matchup
07:33a showdown there
07:35Tyson Holyfield 3
07:37well certainly the trilogy needs to be completed
07:39I don't think that the final statement
07:41the stamp has been put on that
07:42I think there's still some things left unsaid
07:44that need to be said
07:45and maybe even more importantly done
07:47then again who knows
07:48because Tyson said yesterday
07:50this is his last fight
07:51if this is his last fight
07:52this is probably my last broadcast
07:54but I pray it's not
07:56I doubt both
07:57okay
07:58let's get your keys
07:59to victory for the main event
08:01what we have here is a battle
08:02of the unpredictable
08:03and maybe the very unexpected
08:05Mike Tyson
08:06there's no stranger to what he has to do
08:08he has to get on the inside
08:09and also when he gets on the inside
08:11he's got to go to the body
08:12then to the head in combination
08:13he's devastating when he does that
08:15okay
08:16and those big left hooks
08:17and right uppercuts
08:18that he throws on the inside
08:19are devastating
08:20here against Julius Francis
08:21he's going to circle to the side
08:23to get better angle of delivery
08:25and when he does
08:26he's going to deliver a right uppercut
08:27to the body
08:28and then take a left uppercut
08:29directly to the head
08:30buckle his man over to the belly
08:32and then bang him to the head
08:33there's the right uppercut
08:34bent over goes
08:35Julius Francis
08:36and there's the uppercut
08:37which topples him
08:38to the canvas
08:39that's Mike
08:40at his best
08:46Andrew Gulotta
08:47has got to establish
08:48a power jab
08:49not just flick it out there
08:50he's got to put some sting on Mike
08:52if he wants to win
08:53also push Mike back
08:54Holyfield did it
08:55and he won
08:56it's key
08:57and keep some distance between them
08:58Gulotta's too big to fight on the inside
08:59with Mike Tyson
09:00here Gulotta against Norris
09:02he's going to throw the jab
09:03then he's going to throw a little left hook up top
09:04just to keep
09:05not real hard punches
09:06just to keep Norris from coming in
09:08keep him at a distance where he can win
09:10and Norris cannot win
09:11throws a little hook outside
09:13he throws the right hand to the body
09:14and comes up again
09:15with a little hook
09:16keeping the jab in his face
09:17keeping him
09:18keeping that distance
09:19keeping him away
09:20Gulotta can win from here
09:22Norris can't
09:23Tyson can't
09:24now watch what happens
09:26when Norris goes to bend
09:27to come in
09:28now Gulotta unloads
09:29with real punches
09:30right uppercut
09:31and a left hook
09:32you see the shoulder
09:33he's bent
09:34he's making his move
09:35there comes the uppercut
09:36and the hook
09:37and then Gulotta is right back
09:38out of arms way
09:39well from keys to victory
09:44Bobby to faces in the crowd
09:46the greatest Muhammad Ali
09:49former champion Larry Holmes on hand
09:51at the palace
09:54one of the all time greats from Michigan State
09:56not far
09:57the Magic Man Urban Magic Johnson
09:59basketball star Vince Carter
10:02fresh off the gold medal winning performance in Sydney
10:05Jerry Stackhouse
10:08local favorite from the Detroit Pistons
10:10and
10:11entertainer Sean
10:12puff daddy
10:14so the stage is finally set for tonight's main event
10:20Mike Tyson versus Andrew Gulotta
10:22the build-up is over
10:23the moment has arrived
10:24let's throw it up to our ring announcer
10:26Jimmy Lennon Jr.
10:27to introduce
10:28the ring walks
10:29ladies and gentlemen
10:38at this time
10:39we are ready
10:40to bring out the boxers
10:41in our heavyweight showdown
10:43main event of the evening
10:45first making his way to the ring
10:47please welcome
10:48the big contender
10:50the heavyweight from Poland
10:52Andrew Gulotta
10:55we understand Andrew Gulotta is
11:06holding up the works
11:08not ready to come in
11:10despite the fact that Jimmy Lennon Jr.
11:12announced his ring walk introduction
11:15this is right outside the locker room
11:18as we await
11:19the emergence
11:22behind closed doors of Andrew Gulotta
11:24you know
11:27I don't know if it's a psychological game
11:28Steve
11:29but psychological games at this level
11:30I just don't think they work
11:31well especially
11:32he doesn't have Tyson waiting
11:33or anything
11:34so
11:35what does Tyson care?
11:40perhaps it's only fitting that
11:41Gulotta's trainer
11:42is also a tailor
11:43because Medifield
11:44Gulotta is tailor made
11:46for Mike Tyson
11:47slow
11:48plotting
11:49questionable
11:50heart
11:51kind of better than 16,000
11:53awaiting
11:54the entrance of Andrew Gulotta
11:58and like many
12:00before him
12:01a lot of people feel that
12:03Gulotta just won't be prepared
12:04for Tyson's speed
12:06and power
12:07that's if he shows up
12:08I think that's something Steve
12:10that a lot of these heavyweights
12:11really do underestimate speed
12:13yeah and his wife
12:14Mariola who is a criminal attorney
12:16is also anxiously awaiting
12:18her husband's entrance
12:19I think
12:21you know what happened
12:22I think Tyson's people
12:23saw the last
12:24Gulotta fight with Orla Norris
12:25and said that's our man
12:26Gulotta with a lot of support
12:28from the Polish community
12:29of Detroit and Chicago
12:30Chicago about a four and a half
12:32hour drive away
12:33that of course is where Gulotta
12:35lives now
12:36originally from Warsaw, Poland
12:38and we'll see if Tyson is true to form
12:40it comes out swinging at the bell
12:41usually
12:42you know he hears the bell
12:44takes a beat
12:46then fires a haymaker
12:47that's usually the drill
12:49if so
12:50will Gulotta like Holyfield
12:51fight back
12:52or will he be terrified early
12:54or will he unravel
12:55and resort to roughhouse tactics
12:57under pressure
12:58well we know Gulotta has certain skills
13:01above average
13:03would you say that Bobby?
13:04he has above average skills
13:05he's a good athlete
13:07he's big
13:08he's mean
13:09he's somewhat tough
13:10and he can fight a bit
13:11but
13:12he's also been his own worst enemy
13:14is he capable
13:15of staying focused
13:16fighting a clean
13:17smart solid fight
13:18on this big of a stage
13:19against a guy
13:20who can really provoke him
13:21you know Steve
13:22I'm not really sure
13:23that it matters
13:24I think maybe he can
13:25for a short time
13:26but I think eventually
13:27it's going to become
13:28such a war
13:29it's going to be such a
13:30fight or die
13:31do or die
13:32that anything is possible
13:35they're trying to clear
13:36clear people away
13:37to make the path
13:38there's Al Cerdo
13:39on the left
13:40his colorful trainer
13:43we'll see Gulotta momentarily
13:45here he comes
13:46he does have a good chin
13:47he can take a punch
13:48but
13:49how will he react
13:50once he feels the power
13:51of Tyson
13:52I mean these aren't
13:53sparring partners
13:54simulating Tyson's left hook
13:55he has been rocked
13:56by fighters
13:57who don't hit as hard
13:58as Tyson
13:59is that a point?
14:00he reacted pretty well
14:01to Riddick Bowe's power
14:02and he wound up on the floor
14:03and he got back up
14:04and he demolished Bowe
14:05to a great degree
14:06he reacted pretty well
14:07to Michael Grant
14:08he got up
14:09he didn't react that well
14:10to Lennox Lewis's
14:11and this Tyson power
14:12is an all new
14:13kind of hurt
14:14now the people reacting
14:15as they see him up
14:16on the big Jumbotron
14:19the question is
14:20how does he get Tyson's
14:21respect early?
14:22Steve there's no two ways
14:23about it
14:24he has to come to Mike
14:25with a hard jab
14:26he's got to pop him
14:27whether it's a left hook
14:28a right hand
14:29he has to sting Mike
14:30a little bit
14:31and let him know
14:32he's going to be here a while
14:33so don't get too confident
14:39I have to tell you Steve
14:40just the thought
14:41of walking in the ring
14:42with Mike Tyson
14:43is a great rush
14:44I mean the best rush
14:45I ever had
14:46was jumping out of a plane
14:47the Skydive Phoenix
14:48I enjoyed that
14:49but fighting Mike Tyson
14:50has to be an incredible rush
14:51right now I wish
14:52I was Andrew Gallardo
14:53a lot of people
14:54feel that
14:55this may be akin
14:57to jumping out of a plane
14:58for Gallardo
14:59without a parachute
15:00well I don't think
15:01he's going to die
15:02no he could get hurt
15:03he did behave
15:06in his last fight
15:07you recall
15:08a decision over
15:09Arlen Norris
15:10but he was very cautious
15:11Bobby
15:12and plain dull
15:13can he take that same
15:14tact
15:15that same approach
15:16and be successful
15:17against a guy like Tyson
15:18that type of approach
15:19that type of performance
15:20will get him annihilated
15:21and annihilated early
15:22I don't think it's possible
15:23he said he was hurt
15:24in that fight
15:25he had some problems
15:26under his left arm
15:27by his grip cage
15:28I don't think it's possible
15:29to fight anything
15:30remotely close to that
15:31and survive
15:32never mind win
15:33there's an explanation
15:34for Gallardo's tardiness
15:35let's get it from Jim Gray
15:37well there's been some controversy
15:38the last day and a half
15:39according to the promoters
15:40of this fight
15:41Tommy Hearns
15:42and Dan Goosen
15:43Andrew Gallardo
15:44did not want to wear
15:45the Everlast gloves
15:46he wanted to wear
15:47a different brand of gloves
15:48he was not happy
15:49with the ones
15:50that were picked out for him
15:51by the commission
15:52that he had to select
15:53at the meeting
15:54and up until the last minute
15:55he had refused to put them on
15:56and finally convinced him
15:57to put them on
15:58and come out and fight
15:59Steve?
16:00thanks Jim
16:01Everlast 4 of a boxers glove
16:02I'll tell you what
16:03I think that this glove
16:04is better for Gallardo
16:05and not as good for Mike
16:06if I were Mike
16:07I'd want the Raves
16:08I'd want the Power Punchers glove
16:09I don't understand it
16:13let's go back to
16:14Jimmy Lennon Jr.
16:15to bring on
16:16Mr. Tyson
16:17and now ladies and gentlemen
16:19making his way
16:20to the ring
16:21to the music of
16:22Cash Money
16:23Money Recording Artists
16:24Cash Money Millionaires
16:26ladies and gentlemen
16:27introducing the one
16:28and only
16:29Iron
16:30Mike
16:31Tyson
16:49go
16:50go
16:51at
16:52Mike
16:55Tyson
16:56Mike
16:57Tyson
16:58yeah
16:59watch
17:01All right
17:02we're going to do this for my home black
17:03Mike Tyson
17:04act
17:06come one
17:07Mark
17:08look
17:10you know I don't need no introduction to this
17:11those
17:12Come in
17:13it's
17:14Right
17:15this
17:16start
17:17and
17:18come on
17:19As you get it right, don't twinkle and twist it
17:22Every night, try to twinkle and glist it
17:24And don't like it glinty, bang it and twist it
17:27And twinkle and glist it
17:30YB bubble, you can follow in the field
17:32And the platform with the platinum drill
17:35And the platinum beat, the platinum day
17:37And the platinum wine, and the platinum brand the ball
17:41Tyson said this is a fight that isn't meant for him
17:44He's very excited about it, says his strategy is no different for Gulotta
17:48Than anyone else, not worried about low blows
17:50Saying they don't hurt if you have a cup
17:52And doesn't think Gulotta brings anything to worry him into the ring
17:55His trainer, Tommy Frost, thinks he'll destroy Andrew Gulotta
17:59How pivotal is the first round?
18:01The first round is key for both fighters, but especially for Mike
18:04Because if Andrew Gulotta can hit Mike, hurt Mike, push Mike back a little bit in the first round
18:08Mike's got a whole new thing to deal with
18:10He's got to deal with a guy who's going to be here and is prepared
18:12If Mike gets his thing going early, this fight is done
18:15With that, do you look for him to come out swarming, trying to take Gulotta out expeditiously
18:20Or will he look to rough him up, take him out of his game, make him do something foolish?
18:24Mike never looks to let anyone get outside the first round
18:27He looks to take it to you and put what he calls the big hurt on you
18:30He looks to put it on you as often in his earliest spot
18:33All right, let's check the numbers as we go to the tail of the tape
18:36Tyson turned 34 in June, two years older
18:40Big 5-inch height advantage, 7-inch reach advantage, Gulotta at yesterday's weigh-in
18:45As mentioned, Tyson 222, Gulotta 240
18:49And the key Michigan rules for this non-title fight

24:27This way
24:28Here we go
24:29Molana looks a little soft in the belly too, Steve
24:37Tyson quickly looking to get in
24:39On the inside
24:42Using the head move
24:46There's a straight left hand
24:47Right on the nose
24:48A right hand
24:49By Tyson
24:50Another overhand right
24:52By Tyson

25:51Molana not throwing any hard punches at all
25:53Tyson looking to resurrect his all-up of invincibility
25:56Molana's not really using any of the leverage even

28:14That is a full power shot
28:19Super slow-mo from the other side
28:21You're going to see the shockwave sent to Gilada's jaw and chin
28:24That is just a beautiful right hand
28:26But he got it quickly
28:31Deep breath, you've got to fight
28:33Show your punches fast
28:34Come on, let's go
28:36You take love for the line in the field
28:38The power of Tyson
28:40Lada got a 2.47 at the ground

28:45Watch your head
28:47And now they get a devastating line
28:51Tyson all over the line
28:55Lada doing some bottom of the line
28:57A little better length on the curve
28:59He may have missed a few shots
29:00But you can see there's some fear in his eye
29:01He's felt the pain
29:02He's felt the pain
29:03You'll want to hear the open round too
29:05Wanting to end it right here
29:08And a good run
29:10He has to run by Mike Tyson
29:13Lada holding it inside

29:19Mike Lada, off his head

29:22Take a deep breath
29:23Take a deep breath
29:25Mike Tyson
29:27Tysin just slowing
29:28Lada down here
29:29Lada down here at the outset
29:30With a huge arc
29:31With a huge bum
29:46You've got Mike to touch a little bit inside.
29:48Step back. Take a deep breath.
29:54My break. My break.
29:56Let him go.
29:58Step back, Andrew.
30:03Break. Step back. No wrestling.
30:07Mike's got to work him beyond the jab again.
30:09He can't work him. Just come in with the big pile of shots
30:12because Galata's learning.
30:14Hold on to this man.
30:19See, Mike, stop throwing the jab.
30:20He's not working his way in. He needs to stop that big jab.
30:25I break. I break.
30:27Mike Tyson looking to move 240 pounds into position.
30:31No, that's it. Step back.
30:34Approach the final minute of the second round.
30:41Okay, watch your heads. Watch your heads, too.
30:43No punch. All right?
30:44Touch him up.
30:45Not simply a story left hook.
30:47You're doing a good job.
30:48Let's keep going.
30:49The overhand right just missed with that overhand right.
30:52And he had bad intentions all over that one, Steve.
30:54That was a nail in there.
30:56Throwing the pass for the end zone.
30:59Okay. Step back.
31:00Step back. Step back.
31:02Mike's got to work him behind the double jab.
31:04It'll stop him from holding him so easy.
31:05There's a lot of slapping here.
31:06He can't hurt Mike with that.
31:07Let him go. Let him go.
31:08He's going backward and still punching.
31:09Feet are all balanced.
31:10Not planted.
31:11Not delivering.
31:12Turn his hips and shoulders in.
31:13Not going to hurt anybody with that.
31:14And he seems fearful to throw his round hand
31:15but fear of what will be coming back.
31:16Andrew, get him up.
31:17Andrew, get him up.
31:18Right break.
31:19Right break.
31:20Get him up.
31:21That was an accident.
31:22You okay?
31:23Mike's showing his little overanxious here.
31:24That big right hand got all souped up.
31:25That was an accident.
31:26He's not bobbing and weaving behind the jab.
31:28He's bobbing and weaving but not behind the jab,
31:30which is allowing the time up, Steve.
31:32You're missing it with that right hand,
31:47because you're looping it.
31:48Throw it straight.
31:49You're catching.
31:50You're relaxed.
31:51How you feel?
31:53What?
31:54Keep going.
31:55Check this out.
31:56Show him that jab, just like we worked on in the locker room.
31:59Show him that jab and step on it.
32:01Okay, step to the right, fire, Ryan.
32:10Obviously Tyson has to get inside.
32:11Here he comes, trying to get inside.
32:13But as soon as he does, look at the line.
32:15He's just going to hold on for dear life
32:17because he's been hurt.
32:20What are you doing?
32:20What are you fucking doing?
32:22You're going to destroy yourself.
32:26Equip.
32:29Equip.
32:31What are you doing?
32:32Last second, the bell's going to ring.
32:38It's over.
32:39He's done it again.
32:40Look at this.
32:43Al Scherler says, I can't believe you're doing this.
32:46And he said it a little more closely than that, Steve.
32:49I'm telling you right now, Scherler's excited.
32:51He's upset.
32:52And I'll tell you what, it was a better round
32:54considering the first round was in.
32:55But you won't know until you taste the power
32:58of a puncher like a Tyson.
33:00A puncher like a tool.
33:02What you have inside you, and now we know
33:03Ranger Gallagher, will not deal with it.
33:05Not the other way.
33:06And you hear the crowd reacting.
33:10I said I'd be real surprised if they got into round four.
33:14And I wasn't wrong.
33:16Somebody just threw something in the ring
33:19that splattered all over us.
33:20The Gallagher corner is just distraught
33:26with this decision by their man, Andrew Gallagher.
33:30He wants to get the heck out of here.
33:31He's coming.
33:33Near us now.
33:35Gets away.
33:35People are throwing things at him.
33:38They're throwing popcorn, soda, beer,
33:41everything that they can.
33:43Unbelievable sight here at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
33:46The line of being escorted off
33:49as fans throw things at him
33:52after he quits at the end of two rounds.
33:54Oh, look at that.
33:56Oh, my goodness.
33:59Let's hope this doesn't really get out of hand now.
34:01It's getting very ugly here now
34:02when they hustle him out
34:04into the dark area.
34:06I'll tell you what.
34:07You want to go down and go on your shield?
34:09Okay, but I cannot buy quitting.
34:16Well, it's still okay.
34:18The second round was a better round for Gallagher.
34:20He got to Mike a little bit,
34:22tied him up,
34:22was starting to do what he wanted to do,
34:24get to the fourth or fifth.
34:25An outrageous display of cowardice
34:28by Andrew Gallagher.
34:29Go on, go on, go on.
34:31Let's get it over to Jim Gray.
34:32Mike has decided to leave the ring.
34:42We're going to go back into the locker room
34:44and try and speak with him then.
34:46Ice is pouring out.
34:47There's been a lot of coins thrown into the ring,
34:48and I just think that he wants to leave
34:51before the situation becomes any worse.
34:54Steve, we'll run back to the locker room
34:55and see what happens there.
34:56All right, thank you very much, Jim.
34:57As Mike Tyson makes his exit,
34:59heading back towards the dressing room.
35:03One of the cameramen just came over
35:04and whispered in my ear
35:04that right after the first round,
35:05he asked his corner twice,
35:07please stop this fight.
35:07I don't want to go out there anymore.
35:08Please stop this fight.
35:10And Al Certo kept screaming at him,
35:12you're going to win this fight.
35:13You're going to win this fight.
35:14And Gallagher got up on the stool
35:16to get Certo's attention.
35:18Styles makes fights.
35:19Gallagher never had a chance to win this fight.
35:20He doesn't have the defensive skills.
35:22Are the real agile mobility necessary
35:24to offset what Mike's doing?
35:26And he never hit him clean.
35:27I agree with you there,
35:29but do you just...
35:31You take your shot.
35:32Heartless, heartless,
35:33you take a gutless approach like that?
35:34No, you take your shot.
35:35Listen, this is the business we've chosen.
35:38You don't cry about it after the fact.
35:39We still haven't had the official announcement.
35:50The enigmatic career of Andrew Gallagher rages up.
36:01Let's go over to Jimmy Leonard Jr. now.
36:04Ladies and gentlemen,
36:06this bout has been ended at the beginning of round number three.
36:13Gallagher refusing to enter the combat at round three.
36:18Referee in charge, Frank Garza,
36:20stops the contest.
36:22The winner by way of technical knockout,
36:25Iron Mike Tyson.
36:27So there's the official announcement by Jimmy Leonard Jr.
36:35to a chorus of boos here at the Palace.
36:38Fans just irate at what they just saw.
36:42Andrew Gallagher quitting at the beginning of round three.
36:46He refused to come out.
36:48He was being urged to change his mind by his corner,
36:52led by Al Certo, his trainer.
36:56Despite that, despite that urging,
36:59he said, that's it.
37:00I don't want to go.
37:00That was a little more than an urging.
37:01He was a command.
37:03Well, he told him to go out there and fight,
37:05and he refused.
37:07Let's go back and hear exactly what happened between rounds.
37:12Fight on that lap, please.

38:41Go.
38:45Unbelievable animated graphic stuff from trainer Al Certo.
38:49Bobby Ches, what do you make of that wild sequence?
38:51I mean, have you ever seen anything like this before?
38:53Steve, I've never seen a fight between a trainer and a fighter to continue fighting where
38:56the trainer wants them to, and he doesn't want to.
38:59He's either hurt, or he's scared, or he's a whole lot of both.
39:02And Galata actually wanted to stop the fight after round one, and again after round two.
39:07Let's go to Bill Boggs in the dressing room.
39:09Okay, we're here in Andrew Galata's dressing room.
39:11We've got trainer Al Certo, promoter Ray Shaw.
39:15But let's talk to the man himself.
39:16Mr. Galata, Andrew, the crowd is stunned.
39:19They can't believe it.
39:20What happened?
39:21First of all, it wasn't my day today, but I got a hit, but a referee didn't respond pretty much as he's supposed to.
39:36But you're a warrior, Andrew.
39:39You're a fighter.
39:39He didn't award him.
39:40But you're a fighter.
39:41The crowd pays.
39:42I got business in my head.
39:44That's it.
39:45What made you dizzy?
39:47Was it that first knockdown?
39:48What about the knockdown?
39:49Did you really recover from that knockdown at the end of the first round?
39:53Actually, I was just slipped.
39:54You know, I hadn't been hit very well.
39:57I was just slipped.
39:59I was slipped on the down, and that's it.
40:01I stood up.
40:05What do you say to the people who are driving home now, the people who spent the $49.95 for the pay-per-view,
40:12the people who were rooting for you, your fans and boxing fans all over the world,
40:17at this great and grave disappointment to the sport?
40:22Listen, boxing is a very, very difficult sport, you know.
40:25And I'm sorry for all my fans, you know, who can't on me, you know.
40:31I just didn't have my day, day-to-day.
40:35Andrew, do you want to fight again?
40:37Do you want to continue with the sport you've been in since a very young man, since a young teenager?
40:44I have to very, I mean, you know, give myself a very heavy thought, you know, about it.
40:48So, I don't know.
40:52I have a reputation as a dirty fighter, you know, and this particular reason, you know, somebody had a head-butt me, you know.
41:04And just, you know, and nobody took care of this, you know.
41:09He didn't have a hard warning, you know.
41:13All right, a very distraught and upset, Andrew Gulotta.
41:16As are most people ringside, Steve, we're going to go back to you right now.
41:20All right, Bill, thank you very much.
41:21And you have to give Gulotta credit for going in front of our cameras under such difficult circumstances.
41:27That could not be easy.
41:28But Gulotta crying foul, Bobby.
41:30Let's go back and take a look at what Gulotta was talking about.
41:34Well, when you have a guy 5'11", like Mike Tyson, fighting a guy 6'5", like Gulotta, the 5'11 has to crouch.
41:41If the 6'5 comes down unprotected, it's going to bang heads.
41:44The heads have to collide.
41:455'11", the small man always has to win, crouching underneath.
41:49And you always watch.
41:49The big man comes down.
41:51Here, they bang heads.
41:53When the big man comes down to reach the little man, he has to protect the head.
41:57And even at that, the small man, Steve, has got to lean forward.
42:00Bobby, obviously there were some headbutts, as we can see on the replays.
42:03But none of the dirty tactics both fighters have used in some past fights.
42:07And if you watch right there, Gulotta butts Mike because Mike gets up in the air while Gulotta's down and he comes down badly.
42:14And, yeah, it didn't appear to be intentional.
42:16Nothing glaring.
42:17Nothing you don't ordinarily see during the course of a fight.
42:20No, and right here, Mike's working on the inside.
42:22And I can see the frustration there.
42:24You see him come up with his head.
42:25Almost a headbutt.
42:26Now, that you can't tell if it's intentional because he didn't hit his head.
42:29He just came up and missed.
42:30All right, Bobby, based on all that we've seen here now in the replays, how do you sum it all up?
42:36Well, Steve, we have a drastic difference in height and styles like that, coupled with some bad defense.
42:40Heads will clash.
42:41They'll have accidental headbutts.
42:42The referee didn't really have cause to say much, except for that one thing where it looked like mighty tried.
42:46But that's tough to call.
42:48All right, let's go to Jim Gray outside Mike Tyson's dressing room.
42:52All right, thank you very much.
42:54I'm joined by Tommy Brooks, the trainer of Mike Tyson, Shelly Finkel, his boxing advisor and manager.
43:00And, Tommy, let's start with the fight first.
43:02Mike, as of now, is not coming out to speak to us.
43:06Back in the locker room, your assessment of how he fought and how this ended.
43:11Well, I think he fought well.
43:12We've been working real hard.
43:14But this has been kind of an extensive camp.
43:18We started back in, was it July, Shelly?
43:21Yeah.
43:22Because we were supposed to fight September the 9th, and the fight got moved back.
43:25But anyway, to make a long story short, Mike, he put in his work.
43:29He did what he was supposed to do.
43:31I would have liked to have seen him throw a few more straighter right hands than what he threw tonight.
43:36But it was successful, you know.
43:39Have you ever seen a fighter just get into a fight with his manager, basically, during the time in between rounds and say that's it?
43:47And have to push and shove those people away or try to shove his mouthpiece in and say, I've had it?
43:51Well, you know, that's the first time I've ever seen him.
43:55As a matter of fact, I had my back turned, so I didn't even know it.
43:57The guys down below were telling me that he quit.
43:59And I turned around and saw that he didn't want to fight anymore.
44:03But I never would have guessed that from Andrew.
44:05I truly believe Andrew is not a coward.
44:09I think that he suffers from anxiety attacks.
44:12And I think he was probably having one right in that third round.
44:18Can you assess what Mike will do now?
44:20He indicated maybe yesterday that he wouldn't fight again.
44:23Where would you say that stands after this?
44:25Well, I think he was a little bit unfulfilled because he wanted to knock him out.
44:30And he's coming down from that.
44:34I think he'll take off for a couple of weeks.
44:36He'll reassess what he wants to do.
44:38I think he'll be happy with his performance tonight.
44:41I know Galata was banged up pretty good for only two rounds.
44:46His interview just said he slipped in the first.
44:48And he said he got butted when the right hand cut him over the left eye.
44:53And I don't think he wanted to stay in there for any more.
44:55Through no fault of his own tonight, Mike Tyson is involved in a controversy.
44:59And what now do you do?
45:03Because there's damage once again with Mike Tyson associated with it, even though in this instance, he is completely clean and did absolutely nothing wrong.
45:12I differ with you on this one.
45:15I think that's the same like a controversy of Michael Grant when Galata quit.
45:20It didn't affect Michael Grant.
45:22And it shouldn't affect Mike Tyson.
45:23As a matter of fact, the thing that I was most happy, aside from his performance, every time the ref said break and he was holding, he went out of his way to break clean and move back.
45:32He walked back to the corner and some people said, what do you think?
45:35I said, he's very composed.
45:37He's very composed.
45:38He's got his head really on straight.
45:40And he can't be responsible for a guy that he hurts and the guy just quits.
45:44No, he can't.
45:44Certainly, that's right.
45:45So now that he put in a good performance, he showed that he could do what he had to do, even when the guy was deliberately holding and holding and holding, he did what he had to do.
45:54Now it's up to Mike if he wants to fight again.
45:56If he wants to fight again, the world is his.
45:58If he doesn't, then I wish him well.
46:00All right, Shelly, Tommy, thank you for coming out.
46:02Steve, back out to you.
46:04All right, thank you very much, Jim Gray.
46:05So another bizarre ending to an Andrew Gallardo fight.
46:08Tonight against Mike Tyson, he blatantly quit after the second round.
46:12Bobby Chez, final thoughts.
46:14Doesn't Gallardo have an obligation to fight?
46:16Well, he signed a contract saying he would fight to the best of his ability and do his best.
46:20He didn't do his best and he didn't fight to the best of his ability.
46:23He quit.
46:23Referee didn't stop it.
46:25Corner didn't stop it.
46:26He stopped it.
46:27I think he's obliged to fight.
46:28Who knows what he's thinking?
46:29The question is, will he continue to fight now?
46:32I'm sure a lot of fans tuned in would say good riddance, Andrew.
46:36I clearly think that after a second quitting, one being Michael Grant, two being Mike Tyson,
46:39a lot of people will not tune in to Andrew Gallardo.
46:42His paydays are going to be very limited right now.
46:44What about the future of Mike Tyson?
46:46The future of Mike Tyson, I think, right now is extremely bright.
46:48He's at the top of his game, punching well, fighting well, very poised, very focused today.
46:53He showed no bad behavior whatsoever.
46:55I think to complete the trilogy with Holyfield, that's out there.
46:58The winner of Lewis Tua, that's out there.
47:00All great fights.
47:01Big stature.
47:01Big money.
47:02You think Tyson needs one more fight before perhaps fighting a Lewis or a Tua or a Holyfield?
47:08Well, after a Francis that didn't go long, a Lusavri that barely broke 30 seconds, this
47:14fight, which didn't really do much.
47:16I don't think he's even had one full fight yet in the past year, year and a half.
47:19So, he may need one fight that takes him a distance.
47:21I don't know who that is, or even takes him some rounds.
47:24I think he's ready right now.
47:25All right.
47:25Disappointing, controversial night as Gallardo quits against Mike Tyson, heading into the
47:29third round here tonight.
47:30Let's take a look at tonight's final results.
47:33And in an uncharacteristically lackluster performance, Zab Judah stopped Technica Rose in the eighth
47:39round.
47:40And at our main event, a controversial ending.
47:42Andrew Gallardo gave his own version of no boss as he decided not to continue fighting
47:47Mike Tyson at the start of the third round, officially ruled a third round TKO for Tyson.
