00:22It's a topic sitting right at the close road of technology, ethics and identity politics.
00:28Exactly. The rise of AI-generated content brought new possibilities but also very real dangers.
00:38One of the most troubling examples is deepfake pornography videos that pastes somebody's face onto explicit content without her bigger consent.
00:50So let's dive into what are AI deepfakes.
00:55A deepfake is AI-generated media where a person's likeness is convincingly inserted into a video or image.
01:05In porn, it's most often women, celebrities or marginalized individuals whose faces are used without permission.
01:13And the scale keeps growing.
01:18Now literally anyone with an online photo can become a target.
01:23Deepfake porn can be created with just a few clicks and shared instantly on adult sites or social media, making the impact widespread and difficult to contain.
01:35And let's talk about consent and ethics a little.
01:41Consent is absolutely central here.
01:43From a feminist perspective, bodily autonomy means that every person should have control over how their image or body is used.
01:54Deepfake porn completely bypasses and violates that autonomy.
02:00Yeah, and even beyond that, when we look at historical patterns, certain groups are already more vulnerable here.
02:10Queer people, for example, have been hyper-sexualized or exploited online for decades.
02:16AI deepfakes make these vulnerabilities even more visible and easier to manipulate.
02:21Absolutely, and while some countries are beginning to pass laws against deepfake pornography, legal frameworks are slow.
02:32Ethical issues go much further, even if it's not illegal in a specific context yet.
02:39It's still a direct violation of someone's dignity and personal integrity.
02:46So let's talk about digital exploitation and societal impact.
02:51Beyond the individual harm, there is a much broader exploitation problem here.
02:57These videos can circulate endlessly, be monetized, used for harassment or blackmail, and even weaponized as revenge porn.
03:08For marginalized groups, the impact is multiplied, privacy violations plus social stigma plus fear.
03:16And it damages society too.
03:19It reinforces harmful norms about women's bodies, normalizes objectification, and strengthens cis-heteronormative sexual expectations.
03:31It creates a digital environment where exploitation becomes easy, accessible, and even normalized.
03:39In our MAD 425 lecture, we have talked a lot about digital ethics, privacy, platform responsibility, and the moral obligations of designers and developers.
03:54Deepfakes raise major questions.
03:58Who is accountable?
04:00Is technology neutral?
04:01What responsibilities do platforms carry?
04:05Etc.
04:07Yeah, exactly.
04:08Through the ethical frameworks we studied like utilitarianism and rights-based ethics, we can analyze this more clearly.
04:18For example, a utilitarian might ask about overall benefit versus harm.
04:23But rights-based ethics emphasizes one simple thing.
04:28A person should never be treated merely as a means.
04:34And deepfakes treat people purely as tools for others' entertainment for pleasure.
04:43Platforms, AI developers, policymakers, and even users all play a role here.
04:49Better regulations, ethical AI design, transparency, and education are essential.
04:56People need to understand what deepfakes are, how consent works in digital spaces, and how to report or remove harmful content.
05:08Yeah, to wrap up everything and to conclude, AI porn deepfakes aren't just a technological issue.
05:16They are a deeply ethical and social issue.
05:20Content, bodily autonomy, and digital responsibilities matter more than ever.
05:29And we encourage everyone to think critically about the content they consume and share.
05:38Ethics is not only about rules, it is about respecting people's dignity.
05:44Especially in digital environments, where harm is invisible but constant.
