00:00A power supply problem in the channel tunnel caused severe Eurostar train delays and cancellations
00:07between London, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam for most of Tuesday.
00:12Eurostar blamed power supply issues and a low shuttle train which transports vehicle traffic by rail
00:19and broke down in the tunnel.
00:21At Brussels' midi station, passengers were still hoping to make it to London for New Year's celebration.
00:26Well, today was a lot of delays and cancellations, but I'm hoping to get on the train at 6.52.
00:37So, fingers crossed, I will have New Year at home in the UK.
00:43Many were looking for alternative routes.
00:47My plan B, I'm actually taking a train here to Amsterdam, Skiffel to the centre.
00:54I'll enjoy a day here in Amsterdam and then I shall stay till 9 o'clock tomorrow
00:59and then fly back to Luton Airport, London.
01:03Train services through the channel tunnel started to resume slowly on Tuesday afternoon,
01:08but Eurostar was still advising passengers to book alternative dates.
01:12At Brussels' midi station, two trains previously thought to be cancelled were in fact running.
01:16Each train carrying around 500 passengers was filled to capacity
01:21with travellers whose earlier services were cancelled, but not everyone could check in.
01:30US President Donald Trump has said he is, quote,
01:33very angry after hearing about an alleged Ukrainian attack
01:37on one of Vladimir Putin's residencies in Russia.
01:40Trump made the comments to the press just moments before a meeting
01:44with Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu in Florida on Monday.
01:49It's a delicate period of time, but this is not the right time.
01:53It's one thing to be offensive, because they're offensive.
01:57It's another thing to attack his house.
01:59It's not the right time to do any of that.
02:02Yes, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky described the claim as, quote,
02:06typical Russian lies, and has accused Moscow of trying to derail peace talks.
02:11He said the allegations intended to give the Kremlin an excuse to continue attacks on Ukraine,
02:17including on government buildings.
02:19Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that 91 Ukrainian drones
02:24were launched to President Putin's residence in the Novgorod region,
02:28and that Moscow's stance on the negotiating table would now shift.
02:32He did not clarify whether Putin was present at the residence during the alleged attack.
02:39Russia's nuclear-capable Orishnik missile system has entered active service in Belarus,
02:46said the Russian Defense Ministry on Tuesday.
02:49The ministry released a video showing combat vehicles
02:51that are a part of the mobile intermediate-range ballistic missile system
02:56driving across a forest as part of combat training.
02:59The ministry's announcement follows a statement from Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko,
03:05who said earlier this month that the Orishnik had arrived in the country.
03:10Russia first tested a conventionally armed version of the Orishnik
03:13to strike a Ukrainian factory in November 2024.
03:18Putin has bragged that the missile's multiple warheads are so fast,
03:22they can't be intercepted.
03:23The Russian leader has warned the West it could use it next against allies of Kyiv
03:29that have helped Ukraine strike Russia with their longer-range missiles.
03:37Tees have stolen tens of millions of euros in valuables from safety deposit boxes
03:42in a bank vault in Gelsenkirche in western Germany.
03:45Police say around 2,700 customers were affected
03:49after the gang drilled through the basement wall during the holiday.
03:52On Monday and Tuesday, customers gathered in front of the branch.
03:56According to the police spokesperson,
03:58the mood was heated at times and threats were made against the employees.
04:14Investigators estimate the whole lap between 10 and 90 million euros,
04:19making it potentially one of Germany's biggest heists.
04:21Officers were called by a fire alarm early Monday
04:25and found a hole in the wall and the vault ransacked.
04:29Security footage show masked people in a stolen vehicle
04:33and witnesses saw men carrying large bags in a nearby car park.

05:13Starting on the 1st of January 2026, Bulgaria will become the 21st member of the Eurozone,
05:25with the euro replacing the left as its national currency.
05:29The Balkan country of 6.5 million people joined the EU in 2007
05:33and formally began the process of joining the Eurozone in 2018.
05:38It now respects the four Maastricht criteria to join the currency bloc.
05:42Price stability with an inflation rate of 2.7% in 2024,
05:47sound public finances with public debt and deficit levels of 24% and 3% of GDP in 2024,
05:55exchange rate stability and long-term interest rate stability.
05:59In 2024, Bulgaria was the poorest EU country in terms of GDP per capita.
06:05It is also the EU country the most affected by poverty,
06:08with more than 21% of its population living below the poverty line.
06:13Brussels and Sofia hope joining the Eurozone will boost the country's economy
06:17and strengthen its European integration.
06:19The bigger effect is the long-term effect,
06:22basically boosting confidence when it comes to the currency,
06:27to the purchasing power of the currency,
06:30the confidence of foreign investors,
06:32people who buy Bulgarian debt, but also people who invest in the country.
06:36Peter Ghannev thinks that joining the Eurozone will only marginally contribute to inflation.
06:42It's not the main factor.
06:43The main factor is the consumption,
06:47which is supported by inflationary budget
06:51and by record-high credit, especially for new homes.
06:56But it's political instability that might negatively impact Bulgaria's economy.
07:02The government resigned in mid-December after weeks of anti-corruption protests.

07:24which hopes to develop strong economic ties with the region.
07:27The banknotes, which have been stripped of Bashar al-Assad's face and that of his father,
07:48will begin circulating in the new year.
07:49Fireworks sales have begun in the Netherlands,
08:13likely for the last time before a nationwide ban.
08:16A new law, already passed by both houses of parliament,
08:24is expected to take effect next year and outlaw sales.
08:27People can buy permitted consumer fireworks until the evening of Wednesday, 31st of December.
08:33Industry groups say advance orders are higher than usual
08:36and retailers expect strong counter sales.
08:39Some customers say they are disappointed by the ban,
08:42but also understand the safety concerns.
08:44Yeah, actually well jammer.
09:21This actor of the year, Gene Hackman, received his Oscar from Leisamy-Messon.
