Zac Taylor on Bengals-Browns, Finishing Season Strong
Transcript
00:00I just, I wanted to see us finish on the note that we've had at the end of the season here.
00:05And so, again, I've got a lot of confidence in the offensive line.
00:08They're up for the task, whether it's against the Browns defensive line or anybody.
00:12I've seen that from them, so I know what I'm going to get.
00:15And I've got a ton of respect for all the guys that line up in front of Joe
00:18and protect for him and block for him.
00:21So I'm just, again, excited to watch these guys finish on a strong note.
00:23Once you get through Sunday or Monday, at what point do you start evaluating the season as a whole
00:28and start going through and saying, you know, look at what are right, what are wrong?
00:32What does that process look like?
00:33That's a weekly process, really, for us as the season goes.
00:37You reflect on, so you're not just at the end of the season, oh, let's look back at all 18 weeks.
00:42You know, we've got a good sense of that.
00:44So, you know, we'll have our wrap-up meetings early next week with players, with coaches,
00:50with everybody in the building, and then you move on to the next phase of the offseason.
00:53And so that's really no different than what has been in the past.
00:57And I always look forward to that process.
00:59It's a change.
01:01You've been scheming all season and studying tape, and then you get to go on to the next phase
01:05and, you know, take a breath at some point.
01:08But there's still a lot of work to do, and I'm excited about it.
01:10That being said, when you go back and look at the middle of the season,
01:13if there's one thing you wish you would have had back, you know, given how you finished,
01:17what would you have liked, aside from Joe being healthy more than anything?
01:19Yeah, just there's a lot of games where in any phase we just needed to make one more play,
01:23and we didn't do it.
01:24So that's closing our games.
01:25So that could have been a call, that could have been a lot of things.
01:27And, you know, but right now, again, those are things that we'll go back
01:32and watch all these games again in the offseason.
01:34But right now it's just focused on let's find a way to beat these guys
01:37because it's going to be a tough game.
01:38You obviously made some coaching changes last year at this time right after Week 18.
01:42How do you think the coaching staff overall, your evaluation of them,
01:45I know you have one more game on.
01:46Yeah.
01:46Just how things have been.
01:47Really excited.
01:47Really excited about the direction these guys are going.
01:49You know, a lot of the new guys run defense, O-line guys,
01:54really pleased with how they just fit as a staff, the type of people they are,
01:58the type of workers they are, their football IQ,
02:00their ability to work well with others and adapt to scheme and have great ideas.
02:05And I think that we've got a really strong collection of coaches
02:09that I always feel this way that over the next 10 years,
02:13you're going to see unbelievable things from everybody on the staff.
02:16And I see them every day and know what they're capable of.
02:19And don't ever want to lose any of them because I think we have a really,
02:22really, really strong coaching staff.
