02:11to them and said how good this is not this is not true no it's not true farah khan told me this

04:16a film yeah so all's good in the hood that's why i said she's rishikup's daughter just because i
04:21praise him he gets jealous i just had like a wonderful time working with him he's uh he was
04:29so kind to me and it's just it was like i like it is one of my best experiences working with a
04:35yeah now so sonam now when we talk about you of course the first thing that comes to our mind is
04:41how you've managed to make this humongous place for yourself in the fashion world as well
04:45of course as i said in my introduction your two films have really set you on the right path
04:49even as a movie actress and a star but i mean your fashion easter image just kind of precedes
04:54everything else you've done on a certain level does that excite you impress you does that make you
04:59nervous because you feel that you should also be known as an actress along with that i think
05:03so can i have a sip of coffee yes please go ahead um thanks dad but honestly i think the biggest
05:10movie stars you can have coffee while you're talking to me also you don't have to behave like one
05:15like that you've turned your back like that slyly and having coffee he doesn't want to talk
05:19basically on the show he's like so scared i'm going to say something no basically i think the biggest
05:25movie stars ever in this world were all fashion icons right so whether it's an audrey hepburn whether
05:30it's a marilyn monroe katherine hepburn neela kumari um sharmila tagore whoever rekha um they've always
05:39been fashion icons they've always set trends and the kind of movies that i do um whether it's a ranjana
05:45whether it's a mossam whether it's a bhag milka bhag whether it's an i hate love stories um they're
05:50all girl next door or they're all real girls and that's what the thing is the masses like me as a
05:56regular normal girl those are the people who see my films that's why my films do the kind of business
06:00that they do but the classes who read boge or read uh who see coffee with karan or whatever they like
06:07me as a fashion icon so i i think i'm catering to both sides right um in a way but when it does it
06:13bother you when you're not labeled as like one of the lead act like acting performance wise and
06:17you're getting there yeah because you're but you're a superstar you have that image and vibe and you
06:21always walk tall like one but does that bother you when they talk about other actresses more in the
06:25acting department well you know the thing about the industry is if if they don't if you're not
06:29good looking they think you're a good actor yeah no no no it's a actually why it's true
06:35you'll be shocked dilip kumar when he started his you see his earlier review
06:43so dilip kumar used to say that but madri dekshit yeah madri dekshit he said she was acting
06:48yeah last first three four films you should read the reviews your friend khalid momad has written
06:54huh very i'm sure he must be watching the show khalid uncle is like one of my godfathers okay so he
06:58should not say and fortunately for me the reason i've survived this industry is because of the
07:02critics because i've never i don't get bad reviews whether it's a rajiv masandh or a raja
07:07or a taran adarsh or a komil nata they've always praised they've always praised my performance so
07:12why this perception i think it's a that's what i'm saying you need you need to look like like you're

08:30very good actors but they you know always you know how they talk about them as actors

08:40are they're brilliant absolutely fantastic that's why they are where they are they are possible to be
08:43that's because they are good looking people they are you know they have a certain kind of a charm

08:59and anil kapoor is just an actor yes sanjeev kumar is amita bachana oh really i swear but to the
09:04contrary happened because you emerged as a superstar you said it but also karan i hate to defend
09:14myself on this because i think it's like ridiculous but like there's a reason that
09:18rakesh mahra sanjeevila bansali anand rai uh you for that matter y'all take me in your films is not
09:24because no of course because you have a glorious screen presence and definitely there's a stark
09:28quality and i can i can i can say a dialogue right and i can speak hindi right you know what i mean
09:33i empathize in a certain sense because um i mean to my own experience uh is like i don't think i'm
09:39respected by the director fraternity like you know i think they think i'm this this talk show host
09:43who's all over the place leads this kind of has this glamorous kind of filmmaking and he does he's
09:48not making a point this is what i'm saying when people make so-called art films okay why do you
09:54have to take like not nice looking people yeah like why it doesn't make sense i'm just like just
10:00because they don't like look good does not mean that they're good actors you know what i mean people
10:04go there like that's why i have so much respect for like a rajuhirani yeah you know what i mean or i have
10:10like so much respect for like even like an aditya chopra or you or whatever because 10 years down
10:14the line i would want to watch a kuch kuch hodai again yeah you know or i want to watch a you
10:19consider classics like mene pyaar kiya ddlj so it's like it's you don't know what's i mean you have to
10:26remember you i want to be i want to go down in posterity you know what i mean yeah where people
10:31and being considered an icon at the age in my 20s right when people like after in their 40s or
10:38after they die are considered icons i think it's amazing

12:01untapped uh place for good content because they're only like rubbish reality shows that are doing well
12:07which i'm half of them karal is there i'm judging quite a few of those it's fine but they're also
12:15fun you know you're talented people and whatever you're going to cast in your film in this film
12:20it's okay he'll always cast me i'm his friend uh and i'm talented but then besides the point but
12:25what i'm trying to say is that what i'm trying to say is that when you you you have to have good
12:31content and i think there's so much space for it this sober day that you have brought with you
12:35can you explain the social commentator who's commentating on indian television the the role
12:41of the media in playing perception you and everything and your recent bout of supporting
12:46article 377 i mean you've become totally one social commentator i was always like this
12:52my dad is like don't say anything she says she wants to enter politics yeah eventually i want
12:57to i want to do lots of social work social work yeah you want to enter politics what minister of
13:03fashion no i wonder what will you be doing in parliament how tacky change go what are you
13:09wearing imagine going and telling the prime minister of the country i don't quite like your look

13:37with people who want to be themselves right and i think article 377 kind of is detrimental to that
13:44right and i think in a lot of ways it's not only i i do i think it's it's a setback to not only people
13:49who are homosexuals or who are gay or who are lesbian i think it's also it's a setback for people who
13:54just want to be themselves and who don't want to conform so for me article 377 is something which is
14:01extremely extremely um it's it's a step back for a country right and uh it's extremely unfortunate
14:09that uh the supreme court has ruled it the way it has and i'm no there's a lot of objection
14:14there's too much objection and that's why i've i've been so vocal about it and uh anin do you have
14:19thoughts on article 377 yeah i don't understand these things you don't understand these things
14:23you don't understand homosexuality no no uh what sorry you don't understand i understand all these
14:28things but i don't go so deep into it no but it's i think dad come on as an you know as someone
14:35who's in in the in the media and who who has whatever effect they have on like a few people's
14:41minds or thoughts or yeah you should be you should be i mean you have that platform so why can't you
14:46voice your thoughts if you don't do that so where does she get this from anil if not from you
14:49basically it's me only this is this is just a facade of being humble yeah you know all these deep
14:56intense thoughts about about social reformation all that comes from you every day in the morning i sit
15:01on with her for half an hour i train her you train her he's talking nonsense nonsense i don't think
15:09i think you do no such thing seriously i'm telling you first half an hour when you wake up i think
15:13you're doing things to yourself he goes to the third floor to the terrace he starts doing voice

18:14media at all because eventually 10 years down the line if i i have kids i don't want them to look
18:19back into the papers and like you know because what's what's in the papers never goes away so
18:23you endorse the philosophy that you want to keep your personal life there's a reason it's called a
18:27private life it's supposed to be private and i think it takes away from your work it takes away
18:31from who you are and uh i don't want to be asked when i'm going on holiday where uh with whoever i'm
18:37dating or you know whatever whatever whatever i just think it just takes away from everything
18:42is ridiculous this is not my training this is i appreciate it thank you very intelligent
18:47he's appreciating you on this couch so this is not your training but you would in any way give
18:53her that advice that you know whatever your personal life is why should you go out there and
18:57talk about it right no i think these things come naturally right the way you've been brought up

20:36all so what when you know when sonam looks really sexy in a shoot what is your take like i want to
20:40know as a convention you because you are a traditional conventional man he's a good cop
20:43bad cop obviously sunita says what is she wearing it's okay another way yeah so when you look really
20:49hot and steamy does your mother give you the the no i mean like okay so she's uh she's slightly more
20:56conservative than dad is slightly she's slightly she's right she's just slightly more conservative
21:02she's also being a model she's my mom was a model she's you know and she was a fashion designer
21:09right she's done it all you know she's so she understands the business she understands the
21:13business so what do you have to say when you talk about clothes and everything else what do you have
21:16to say about the general fashion mindset of our industry do you genuinely think people are kind of
21:21upping their game of course they are in that way i think uh i think dipika's upped her game right
21:26um because she uh anyway but she's upped her game and that's all thanks to anita you know what i
21:32mean i think anita is doing a great job with her right um and uh in a lot of ways what about
21:38katrina katrina's herself she does not try to fit into a mold which i respect a lot like she's not
21:46trying to be the fashion icon of the century no she's trying to be like she's herself which is
21:50amazing which is really cool i think that's great and so i i mean even if she wears jeans and a t-shirt
21:56and like has a hair and a ponytail i'd rather have that than someone who's like i want to be on the
22:01cover of vogue every three months you know what i mean yeah and he's a tad body you're not talking
22:05about him daddy no no i'm you're very intrigued intrigued it's a very educative show edu yeah
22:11educate oh really okay but i want to educate you on something that we have for both of you
22:17we have a member of your family who had some fun things to say about both of you who's this now
22:21have a look my first memory starting out uh with anil jajo of course seniors first is uh
22:30watching the vhs of ram lakhan and tezab and mr india while eating my rajma chawal at home
22:36and then uh turning right and seeing him sitting right next to me and eating from my plate
22:41while watching his own film and and laughing the loudest at his own jokes and his own performance
22:46and loving himself and when his wife used to comment check he used to say my name kush
22:49and he's finished your entire food while you're talking to him and when you look down you realize
23:02he's eaten your food and gone so that remains a very fond memory of mine by uh
23:06uh anil jajo's concern sonam this sweet fragile uh fashionista beautiful indian ethereal looking
23:16beauty used to bite me as a kid along with all my cousins she's made some of them cry also sonam
23:23and we went to school together we used to always be traveling together on holidays and uh you know
23:28when you travel you come back you enjoy your holiday but sonam carried a lot more back from her
23:34holiday than just the memories she carried back the accent when we travel to america she used to
23:39come back with like an american accent and then you know like we like talk like that in school also
23:43for no rhyme or reason her hindi uh also suffered with an accent and i think it still does sometimes
23:48she becomes the hum ko chum ko kuch dene ka hai chum idar ko ao so she kind of gets that accent from time
23:54i also was the third deal in um her dates when a boy did ask her out uh she used to make me
24:04uh this protective uh asset that she could carry along when she could tell her parents that listen
24:09i'm going with arjun whereas she was going with arjun as a added plus one with her date and uh i used
24:16to be sitting alone by myself in those days uh eating my mcdonald's burgers which i was very happy
24:22that she used to pay for also to bribe me so i used to be sitting alone eating the burgers while she
24:26used to be sitting away and doing a ha ha he giggling laughing having a good time so it's one thing
24:31growing up with sona kapoor and being the same age and spending time with her but it's another
24:34thing growing up and becoming an actor and being in the same profession as anil kapoor it's very
24:39irritating spending time with him in a party or at a social event because women come to me and i
24:45feel very nice women are coming talking every guy likes the attention come and speak to me and they'll
24:50say you know your uncle he's so good looking and it's just very heartbreaking that
24:57women come to me to talk about how good he's looking and not how good i'm looking it's very
25:03very infuriating my request to sonam would be i want her to underdress for an event or an appearance
25:09i want her to literally dress down be her age i wanted to show up in jeans and a tank top at an award
25:16show sona please do that for me once please please please please please please coming to anil jaju
25:20is he willing to play father on screen i think it's a big deal that he's accepted sonam as his
25:26daughter and come and sat on that show also that's quite amazing because it's not very easy for him
25:32i know that because he's still looking as fresh as ever but i really want to know would he be willing
25:36to play my father on screen he still wants to be the younger brother because that's what he always
25:40keeps saying he looks younger than me so he can play my younger brother actually
25:43i love him that's very sweet i love him and i think he encompassed what both of you are
25:51in this three and a half minutes i mean he said everything that you all stand for
25:55we've been discussing all these elements and he just put it all together into perspective
25:58i love him he's like he is amazing yeah he's your brother he's my brother yeah and i know that all
26:06your brothers are extremely protective about extremely and he's just pretending not he was
26:11very like he wanted to come for those things nobody can bribe a 12 year old boy or a 13 year
26:16old boy to be like come with me and you know he would come with me there would be no questions asked
26:21and and the thing is it's not like they they're very cool they they want to go out with me they
26:26want to drink with me you know they get along with whoever i'm dating or whatever but like
26:30like for example arjun is like now i don't want to meet anybody till you don't decide that you
26:34want to meet with this person yeah you don't he wants to deal with that and why are you
26:38traumatizing your nephew and looking better than him and getting all these no he's looking
26:41very good he's looking very good very good for a change he's looking better than me you're
26:48admitting it on it yeah on national television absolutely yeah amazing so we're only promoting
26:53like we're only promoting on that note i'm going to take my my second break and be back for
