00:06come on pasco don't pay no gain it's active wear week oh i'm the great british sewing bee
00:16last time the sewers took on shape as sexy as a wet clip peter's sculptural shoulders
00:23they have such impact secured him gold a tricky pattern challenge almost saw off safi and jess
00:30i feel like going home but with a poorly glendora missing in the made to measure
00:34the judges knew exactly who was leaving nobody this week the sewers are sweating over activewear
00:42this is quite intimidating creating complex caps yeah we're good recycling cycle gear i'm thinking
00:48off the boot tube and making casual comfort clothing i'll spend more time on this and then
00:53rush everything else in the form of made to measure our pleasure i've never ever sewn this fast in my
01:18so it's week two and it's active wear i don't think before this week i've actually ever made
01:25any active wear i prefer things that are big and floaty a little bit different to the skin tight
01:30spandexy stuff that we might have to work with as illness took glendora out of the sewing room last
01:37week no one was sent home so this week the bottom two sewers will be leaving it's a really weird feeling
01:43knowing that two people are going to go home you know double the chance of it being new
01:46this week is active wear week we're talking gym gear workout stuff perfect for a jog out to brunch
01:56running down the shops or skipping work to watch tv all right esme pump it
02:03here we go pass them around oh what patrick and i want you to make is a seven panel cap it's got
02:18mesh side panels a reinforced peak and it fastening at the back you'll find all the usual fabrics in the
02:26haberdashery but the mesh and all the other furnishings for the cap you'll find on the cutting table
02:33you have three hours for this challenge on your marks get sets so
02:42oh don't you pass me the red my favorite colors are pink and red red rising green like the welsh flags
02:47but i can't find a green you want this type of green yeah i have a piece of that please i've made hats
02:53never a baseball cap love that that might actually go with that i've got a red and then there's sort
02:59of feature pattern and then green mesh i love mesh it reminds me of all the slutty nights that you get
03:07at the gay clubs in manchester
03:12so the seven panel cap it's a great challenge because we've got lots of panels that need
03:18to be really precisely put together it's got small pieces so they have to be really accurate we've also
03:25asked them to top stitch all of those scenes and three rows of top stitching on the peak and if they
03:33do contrasting top stitch it will show up if it's really wobbly the peak and the sweat band they need
03:43to trap the peak in between the sweat band and we don't want to see it on the outside well this
03:50is very tricky this one isn't it they're going to have to put their thinking caps on there's going to
03:54be a lot of caps in here definitely this is quite intimidating dimensions of a hat are quite small
04:01and so lack of precision and cutting out there isn't really room for error i feel like i can just
04:06hold it down in place without actually waiting it i got a blue mesh and sweatband with fabric choice
04:12it's like me it's like chaotic to start the seven panel cap the two top panels are sewn together along
04:19a central seam top stitched and the front panel is added the side fabric and mesh are assembled separately
04:25and then sewn to the top panel the back opening is then finished with bias tape the peak is created
04:32from two panels sewn together with a stiffener inserted decorated with three rows of top
04:37stitching and attached to the cap back straps with hook and loop tape are added and a sweatband sewn in
04:46finally the cap is finished off with a top stitch all the way around the bottom edge completing the
04:50stylish sporty look hello glendora we missed you so much i missed it yeah here you are back active week
04:57are you a sporty lady i used to wait train and teach aerobics and stuff oh did you yeah what kind
05:02of variables did you do cardio yeah how do you have fun yes a little bit of dancing you know great fun
05:07yeah i know great fun yeah that's it that's that yeah and then funk it up i don't think i'm very
05:12funky is the problem that's so good glendora has a history of funking it up i was on top of the pops
05:21dancing and on the word as well in a little fluffy white bikini
05:25and the gym bunny has got sewing stamina so i could get up in the morning start sewing and not stop
05:33until it's time to go to bed i have gone for a cotton drill i picked this nice burgundy whiny
05:40color um and this nice orange i don't do caps really but i do own a lot of mesh
05:46back in manchester marketeer kit likes to exercise bareheaded i've got rosy cheeks
05:55that's what you get when you make me run he enjoys making clothes ready to work up a sweat
05:59on the dance floor best thing i've ever made is my collection of shiny lemay jumpsuits threaded
06:06let's go press girls hello hello good morning have you made a cap before i've made flat cap and
06:13uh baker boy cap show us your fabric the original fabric was this beauty on the rack it was only
06:19like that and i started walking around looking for other colors to to match it and then you realize
06:24that actually there's three different elements to it i mean it's a it's a bit of good luck but fortune
06:29favors the brave as they say as well as making hats stewart also makes his family's clothes i made a
06:35jacket and then i started making dresses for my wife when not sewing he swaps his small needles for
06:41larger ones doing archery with his dog treacle yeah that's treacle she doesn't like wearing hats
06:48oh hurry up novello i love that bit that that bit's gonna gonna do that okay i love right patterned
06:55fabric this is the sort of hat i'd wear playing golf magistrate novello also helps run the family
07:02business a golf course but sewing remains her true passion i enjoy sewing more than anything actually
07:10even more than golf okay so assembling the center panel so the top panels together along the center
07:16scene this is my top of my heart in this most difficult challenge the sewers task is to stitch
07:23fabrics with complex curves so yeah there we go to form the 3d shape of their cap you have to use a
07:29tailor's ham because it's on the round as i'm about to do a bit of top stitching on the top i've never
07:35done top stitching i've not really had the uh need to do top stitching the cap's top stitching is designed
07:41to be seen from the outside you have to eyeball this really it must follow the contours of the cap
07:47perfectly the slightest wobble will stand out a mile right that's the front panel going on to the top
07:54panel this is the piece i think comes down to the peak so it'll sit on something like there with the
08:00bits that come together at the back i've changed my thread colored so that my top stitching is the same
08:05color as the fabric you want it neat and gorgeous this is how you're going to do it i'm having such a
08:10fun time because i don't often do tiny pattern pieces i'm trying to do an ireland inspired cap i think
08:16that'll be really sweet if canada's a welsh one and i do an irish one we can get a pan celtic
08:21hats community going for jess the cap is a chance to fly the flag for jamaica i have a very proud
08:27jamaican family yeah and i felt my dad would look stunning on the golf course right okay in a new
08:34black gold and green hat jess is head of communications at a media company with sewing it's an opportunity to
08:41chill out step back and take your time if she's not stitching to relax she's stretching her legs on a
08:47run absolutely brilliant for mental health anxiety all those things all right guys 1k left the
08:55instructions say assemble side panels take your side palm pieces and pin the lower side panel to the upper
09:02side panel remember you are matching the stitching line not the raw edges when you're sewing with mesh you
09:09want to sew a really small stitch it will catch all the little tiny holes hi safi hello do you have
09:18any sort of physical hobbies yes i boulder that's very trendy now isn't it with the yes but i was
09:23doing it back in the day when no one else was doing it you invented it i'm not going to go as far as
09:28i said i'm going to spread that round after a long day lecturing in product design safi likes to unwind
09:34with a climb it just allows my brain to connect with my hands having come from a family of sewers i
09:42think i learned when i was about seven or eight safi has the skills to create her own style of clothing
09:48i believe in the power of self-expression i like a little bit of color it can have lots of embellishments
09:53like pins or badges i'm actually enjoying that color combat it's starting to look okay done
10:02kaz has also gone for fabrics that suit her style you're making a cap to match your own
10:07i really am yeah yeah i really like this corduroy it's good isn't it yeah have you made anything
10:12like this recently made a sort of 60s type bonnety thing oh this is a bonnety thing at home in
10:20staffordshire cas stays active with martial arts and when she isn't making her husband look like
10:25his pants at kung fu she's sewing them i love making pants for all my girlfriends i particularly
10:31love making stripy pants i get more enjoyment out of making clothes for other people to be able to look
10:36around and go i know you've got my pants on i'm not very good at reading instructions i just have to
10:41get on with it and believe that believe i believe that i can do it take one of your side panels and
10:47pinch the center panel and stitch so that's the back it's so curvy now yeah these side panels you're
10:55really beginning to create the shape of the caps i'm actually enjoying this i do like a challenge here we
11:01go this is this yeah we're good you guys are making caps yeah i'm doing a caption contest so what's this
11:10do you reckon uh orange it's a pizza okay it's a pizza but how much of the pizza is there half half
11:17scales use two way half way halfway halfway halfway through everyone really well done
11:28so i've made the main body of the hat we're now putting the bias tape onto the back opening just
11:37folding it over so it makes a nice neat edge on either side i need to top stitch it down i'm just
11:42hand-sticked in this bias tape i think it will look better hi peter you're a sporty guy i here do have a
11:50few hobbies yes uh skateboarding with the old man skate crew the old man skate crew we've just got a new
11:56skate park in town so we quite enjoy going down there there are loads of just sad kids going can
12:00we have a turn as well as hitting the skate park peter loves working out on the water i love paddle
12:06boarding i've been involved in the sport for probably around the last 15 years the man of action has been
12:12sewing and creating his own patterns since the age of 10. create a pattern out newspaper which is what
12:18my mum taught me to do it's the processing gives me the ability to come up with an idea and create it
12:23all in one go i just want to wear this hat now got to keep all this hair out your face somehow place
12:30two peak pieces right sides together and stitch around curved edge a cap's not a cap without a
12:36peak i've just sewn the two pieces of fabric face together then you have to snip your edges so that
12:44when you turn it round everything lies flat well i'm about to decide which way i want the peak
12:48can you um can you try this on for me sure it's lovely that so i can do that with that way why are you
12:58laughing why are you laughing well that i think i like it that way
13:0630 minutes left everybody do not want to not finish use your symbol of p because the template to cut the
13:12fusible interlining i'm going to draw around it cut it out and then that will go on to the inside of
13:18my peak slide the beak stiffener inside the assembly beak the glue oh yeah there's glue in it it's also
13:24glowy side that's a glowy side committing now let's go for it okay and that's bonded that stiffener in
13:31place tick okay we're gonna top stitch it's not perfect but it's not bad now the sewers face the tricky
13:37task of adding three rows of curved top stitching to decorate the peak let's see how many it says two
13:42more yeah so that's four rows of stitching quite a lot but there you go the first one's the hardest
13:49and this one has to be 0.5 centimeters we're just putting the peak on you need to change the threads
13:55around breathe there's not much time left at all so i've got to get this peak on so the dog's dinner
14:02uh i've i'll just need to run over it again super fast time i'm doing the little back straps we clip
14:10the corners turn the straps through to attach the hook and loop i think i might have done something
14:16odd with the loop they need to go the right directions and i don't think i've done that
14:2010 minutes left okay we need to move a little quicker now sweatband position a sweatband around
14:25the bottom edge with the wrong side of sweatband against the right side of the cap with a little
14:29one centimeter hangover overlap by one centimeter what do you mean overlap the more one centimeter
14:35i'm not really sure what's going on with it but it's fine we'll work it out i'm gonna have to wing
14:39this i've got time to pin it come on novella you can do this five minutes left everyone flip the
14:46sweatband up into the cap and take your back straps in position on either side i'm shaking i need to pin
14:52it in place and then sew all the way around at the back i'm just tidying it up and then i've got to
14:58finally topstitch all the way around the bottom of the edge of cap a few millimeters away from the
15:01edge and then do a dance in it because you've got more time than the others don't say that
15:06all the way around the bottom edge oh damn it top stitching it's so fast that i've puckered all of
15:11my fabric i've just got to quickly take it apart one minute left i don't think it matters about neat
15:18at this point does it i've just realized i made a mistake that everyone else's sweatbanding doesn't
15:22hang below i thought he said it needed to hang a centimeter below just gonna have to go with it
15:26didn't say to top stitch that oh it did just that's going to have to do oh we've done it needles up
15:34sewers your time is up that was a very tough challenge hats off to you it's like pj and duncan
15:41let's get ready to rumble let's get ready to rumble get ready get steady and rumble everybody rumble

16:0012 sporty colorful seven panel caps created in just three very active hours
16:05well they look good to me i think you've done a smashing job just hope you haven't peaked too early
16:18i really like the combination of fabrics colors prints it all works really really well
16:24we've got a bit of a wobble the stitch where you've attached your sweatband it's just going for a little
16:32bit of a meander but otherwise it's just a cool looking hat
16:41thanks great i think the color combination has worked really really well top stitching's pretty
16:46good it's gone a bit wonky there it's got a problem putting the band in here overall i really really
16:53like it looks like something you could go out and buy in a running store
16:56the top stitching on the peak isn't perfectly parallel on the inside oh hang on have you folded that
17:08under we've got a big edge showing below the bottom of the band it is a big mistake this
17:16i really like the color combination and i think it's fantastically neatly sewn top stitching is
17:26good you've changed the thread color for all of your top stitching so every top stitch is disappearing
17:34you've done a very neat job it's pretty first rate
17:38you've given us red top stitching thread well let's look at the peak it's not bad it's not
17:47perfectly even the inside it's good i think on the whole it's really successful thank you
17:57quality of the top stitching is absolutely spot on it's following the curve of the peak let's have a look
18:02inside you have to oh you've unpicked this haven't you and we've got a right wobble here that was a
18:10last minute wobble it is a shame because i think almost everywhere else it's really good
18:19i love the fabric you've used right let's have a look at the binding ah i've hand stitched you've
18:24hand sewn the binding it's just a bit untidy and and obviously improvised and you haven't got the top
18:31stitch all the way around i think the choice to do all of the pieces from different bits of the same
18:41fabric has worked really nicely you've top stitched round the bottom a little bit wobbly ah i can see a
18:49raw edge here but all in all pretty decent hat i very much like the color right you've just given us
18:59a non-sticking pair the inside it's very neat you've done a good job it's just a big big shame about the
19:08fastening
19:13i like the fabric you've chosen top stitching you've done in a contrast color ah we could see a raw red
19:22you know it's not the neatest thing you've ever sewn is it but i don't think that should take away
19:28from the fact that it does look great you've got four rows of top stitching on the peak you've given us
19:36a bonus row thank you for that and your stitches attaching the sweatband are just going for a little bit
19:45of a wonder love the choice of the print your top stitching on the peak is bang on ever so slightly
19:58uneven over the top seam i think it's great this fabric i'll go on put it on oh yeah

20:17the sweatband poking out the bottom is just a bit of a boo-boo in 11th place it's glendora orla is 10th

20:35and dan is third second place peter fantastic looking hat just a little bit of a wobble attaching
20:46that sweatband on the inside but yeah otherwise first rate thank you very much in first place is

21:05so happy to have got first i think pattern challenges might be my jam now feel to be second
21:11one wobble on a seven panel cap i'll take that i misread something if i'm being honest i'm still
21:16not entirely sure how it would work but either way it's definitely gone in the wrong way so
21:24welcome back sewers it's time now for the transformation
21:28this is the one where you take something old and unwanted and completely change it
21:33like i can transform myself into an athlete by just switching on my smartwatch
21:38what are we transforming today patrick right so it's time to get back in that saddle here we go
21:51we are giving you a selection of vintage cycling tops which we would like you to transform
21:57into a party outfit party outfit you can take three jerseys each you can get fastenings from the
22:05habitus tree but no trims and no extra fabric now the judges aren't allowed to be here for this one
22:13so they're off on their tandem but not before shaving their legs i don't need to shave my legs well you
22:19can help patrick yeah so as i hope your creativity will stretch as far as your spandex you have 90
22:27minutes for this challenge and your time starts now let's see what we've got get it off get it off
22:34oh my god oh they're funny colors i haven't worked much with lycra or stretch before they've done a
22:40lot of cycling and that whoever had that before hmm it's like all cyclists
22:47really lurid patterns amongst some of these cycle jerseys and they're good quality stretchy jersey they can
22:54take three each and we want them to turn them into a party outfit an outfit is crucial yes not just a
23:00top or a bottom it's really important that the three they choose work together so i'm intrigued to see
23:09what pieces from the actual garment they use and how they disguise it right well i need to go and get my
23:15bike fixed it's been throwing me off it's become a bit of a vicious cycle
23:19i try to pick things with complementary colors so we've got lots of white and color it's just
23:26making sure it is cohesive together i try to get coordinating colors so we're on a blue theme
23:32rather than go random gayna gets her exercise walking her doberman come on rowan and gardening but
23:39sewing's always on her mind i love being in the garden and i think it's a similar sort of thing too so
23:45you get totally absorbed in what you're doing that's good exercise too i'm thinking of the boob
23:51tube because it's party outfit and a skirt that's going to have two zips up either side my first
23:58choice was this one which has got that sort of asymmetric look on it and the colors do go quite
24:02nicely in a clashing way with those when they said cycling i thought of yellow jersey as i've got sort of
24:09yellowy goldy colors i was hoping it could be some sort of sunflower the vision is that we have a
24:14mini skirt with a pink panel at the front and then a very small halter top well there's not a lot of
24:19fabric here so if you don't like sexy this is not place to be hello peter hi got a plan i've got a
24:25party girl in ibiza oh she's out for a good time that is a teeny tiny top and then a little skirt or is
24:32it just a pocket she's got no there's a skirt that's the plan great i'm just currently trying to assemble
24:37some type of under bodice so i can start to apply my ruffles on and just kind of do it a bit more
24:43organically on the mannequin i want some sort of like kind of wrap around go to a party have a good
24:50time saying cut my sleeves off but if i just keep sniffing without an actual idea of where i'm going to
24:56go i'm going to struggle a self-taught sewer dan's skill set is all about performance i trained in fire
25:03in stilts and then develop them further for myself kind of like my sewing i think i'm going to go with
25:10like a roped backless thing so maybe something like this hi ola what are you making a party
25:18dress let's go go go did's goodies you're asking the wrong guy but what are they so they're inserts
25:24of triangles oh okay so basically i'm opening up the seam adding triangles which makes it bigger musician
25:30orla come on ted this way gets her exercise entertaining dog teddy no not that way she began
25:36sewing at the age of 16. started sewing three and a half years ago i just learned it on youtube i always
25:42think something's like lego you know you can follow the instructions and make a beautiful thing or you
25:46can kind of go off piste and make whatever you want with the pieces you're given i'd like to state on
25:50camera that i have researched and it is go day i'm doing go days not got it i'm trying to make a dress
25:56with funky sleeves and a matching collar that's not much for transformation but just gonna go for
26:02it i use the cycle to work but i do not cycle anymore because it's too many miles i wouldn't be
26:07presentable yasmin now prefers jogging to cycling as the former rugby player likes to stay match fit
26:13i'm definitely competitive i hope that my ability shines through more than my competitiveness
26:20um i'm evolving it as i go this is what i really really enjoy doing it's gonna be very tight would
26:27it be long enough it's long enough for me i'm sweating i might have cut it too extreme
26:36you're halfway through sugar sugar sugar sugar sugar it's looking okay so far i need to put lengths of
26:42ribbon so it can all be secured around the back i'm gonna do some plaiting going around the top i'm trying
26:49to keep it asymmetric not necessarily going well but i really need to start on the skirt just finishing
26:56a bikini top hey jess hi i love this outfit you know that'd be handy for we're speeding covered the
27:04vital bits now i've got to cover her bottom half i feel like your party girl could go out with peter's
27:11party girl oh right would you have ever worn anything like this to go out dancing oh in my younger day
27:17bit of a wild child gainer well as wild as you could be back in the 60s yes oh she's pretty wild
27:24create some really interesting shapes that i quite like this is one of the ruffles ideally i'd like
27:28to cover it right to where the hen is i'm gonna need to make that in order for this to run i don't
27:32like the bottom so i'm going to change it so the one thing that i actually sawed up on this challenge
27:37i'm cutting back off now you've got 15 minutes done panicking 15 minutes left everyone
27:45i've got no idea if i'm gonna do this as a separate piece or attach it but i haven't really
27:49given the skirt much thought i kind of want to do something to tie the fabric in up here and switch
27:56out the neck band on this shirt oh that's fabulous oh that's happening i'm gonna make the top part of the
28:04dress i think an electric blue would look really nice at the very top of this outfit
28:08i'm doing the fringing i need to rush a bit i'm literally gonna let's take a little front
28:14pocket on for a phone she's gonna go to the club she's gonna need to get a taxi home
28:18oh it all came off damn it five minutes left everyone five glorious remaining minutes
28:27unsavourable in five minutes i keep finding bits and i think oh it's not attached
28:32whoa you've made a dress compared to some of the others this isn't short oh okay what is short
28:37i'm not very happy just trying to see how much i can get on in this next like three minutes it looks
28:42absolutely bonkers do you know what can't go wrong with a bit of bonkers can you this is it we are
28:46committed this is a club in party outfit and i will be the dad dropping them off oh this is a nightmare
28:53absolute nightmare one minute left everyone why is this bikini so difficult to do come on come on
28:58come on come on come on get your mannequins dressed everyone no more faffing needles up showers that is
29:05your time ready got fin finished oh that's so hard bring your mannequins forward and jumble them up so
29:15we don't know who's is who i really struggle who's is this fine this is fabulous
29:25a collection of vintage cycling jerseys transformed into day glow party wear in just 90 minutes
29:32patrick and esme you can cycle back in and the judges haven't a clue whose is whose what do you think
29:39that's some first-rate recycling
29:45i think it's brilliant you sort of know that it's come from the world of cycling we've got stripes here
29:51and we've got striped collar i like it they've thought about the color and pattern really really well
29:58works really nicely together they've twisted this purple one around which i think is quite
30:09clever the bottom half is a little less successful it's almost like they spent a lot of time on
30:16the top and then bung this at the bottom
30:23the top's been really smartly engineered they've very cleverly twisted elements of it to create
30:29sporty looking back i like the top but i'm not sure about the skirt
30:35i like how they've integrated top with the bottom we've got the pink jersey down on the bottom quadrant
30:47we've got the black jersey down on the front it is a shame that this top is just like a cycle top
30:54this has got impact the plaiting works really well with the fringing obviously they've gone through
31:05and individually fringed all of that bottom yeah definitely feels like a party outfit
31:14i like this red black and cream it would have been better if we'd had a bit of pink somewhere
31:21down the bottom as well but i still really like it i think it's effective
31:29it looks like a fun party outfit i love a go day putting this blue at the top
31:35really connects it to the go days i think it looks good
31:43we've got a dress with this quite graphic daffodilly motif a little bit this should have
31:51been there to make it go together yeah the colors and the patterns in the two different jerseys work
32:01really well together i agree i quite like that there are two zips down the front yeah i think it's good
32:06i like the combination of the colors it's a bit of shame there's no pink on the top i'm not sure i love
32:18the phone pocket although it is amusing
32:25i think how they've draped it is really great the way that they've used these panels of color across the
32:34front and then over the shoulder that's brilliant
32:41the colors work well together the frill is ending in just a slightly unusual position
32:47it has impact but i think it's top if it is a dress it's the miniest dress we've ever seen
32:54esme and patrick must now rank the outfits from worst to first
32:58in 12th place is the blue top with a thrill that's saffy it looks like a top not like an outfit
33:07in 11th place is the purple floral dress that's kaz we just didn't feel like the two halves blended
33:14together hundred percent tenth is dan ninth stewart eighth jess seventh peter all of his sixth
33:23fifth is gainer fourth glendora and third is novello in second place it's the top and skirt that's jasmine
33:32i really liked how you did the stripes at the bottom and then put the stripe at the top thank you very
33:39much which means in first place is our dramatic color blocked one shoulder dress
33:46we both just really liked the way you'd engineered the shape with the colors it was amazing thank you
33:55waiting for the judging and it gets to the higher numbers and your name's still not being called out
34:00and you're like no no i did not think i was going to be first so i was really happy about that came
34:05bottom of the pack again so i'm not in a position i haven't been in before so i just need to turn it
34:10round for the next challenge oh the real people there's now one final challenge to overcome in
34:23activewear week it's a little i've done bad and i gotta do good i think i can smash this out today
34:29welcome back sewers it's time now for the made to measure this is the one where you have to fit your
34:35outfit to a real life person the judges would like you to make an athleisure outfit for when the idea
34:42of working out makes you need a lie down your outfit must be suitable for both physical activity
34:49and relaxing afterwards you have four and a half hours for this challenge and your time starts now
34:56yes boss let's go i'm just gonna hold this on your back the sewers warmed up by practicing their
35:01garments at home just need the length of your torso to start off with but must now stretch

35:30worn in a kind of fashion context what we want is an outfit that works for activity and leisure but
35:37also has to have impact i want to be excited and surprised okay thanks guys gotta run i've got some
35:44biscuits in my dressing room for me there's not too many things that can be athleisure because it has to
35:49be both sporty and also incredibly comfortable the way i'm thinking about it it's from the pitch to the
35:55pub exercise then calling the pub on the way home there's a lot of wearing sportswear for drinking

36:07i am making a two-piece mesh hoodie and shorts was there a sporting reference on this it's giving
36:16boxing you know with the hoods right baggy shorts and our lovely model sean said she'd wear it boxing
36:21great i think she worked kit's making matching knickers and sports bra and a pink mesh hoodie and
36:28shorts with color matched elastic and multiple zip pockets he's aiming for a clean sweep after taking
36:34the win in the first two challenges had a very good yesterday couldn't be much better really can't
36:39complain no don't complain i won't complain so which direction is the most stretch this way this is the
36:46ribbing so if you look at your sweatshirt around the neck it's made of this like tubular fabric you
36:50do cut it slightly smaller so you'll have something that sits as flat as possible this is a line of
36:55ribbing which is not something i'm familiar with i haven't practiced this i'm making it up as i go along
37:00so i am making a princess diana look which is very much inspired by those iconic paparazzi pictures
37:08you used to see of her leaving the gym in cycling shorts and a big jumper jesse's outfit starts with

37:20significant date i thought why not put 1991 on which is the year i was born how's it going i've got an
37:28awful lot to do because i've got three garments to make so that really is an entire outfit i'm
37:34not sure if it was such a good idea now novello's piling the pressure on with flared leggings and
37:39keyhole bra top along with a cropped hoodie all designed for yoga class and coffee after is that the
37:45kind of thing you like to wear ever yep yeah yeah yes go away yeah yeah it reminds me of when you're
37:52having a cup of tea at someone's house and they're like taking your plate and your cup away that i
37:56mean all right all right then fine novella good luck yes that's all my pieces cut out so we can just get
38:01on safi's also aiming to create three complex garments i'm a climber who also works in a workshop
38:09but likes to go out so i want my outfits be able to transition throughout the day of me so this is a kind
38:13of transformer outfit ready to go from the workplace to the rock face safi's green fitted roll neck t-shirt
38:19comes with a ripstop canvas bag that converts to a vest and shorts with plenty of pockets and accessories
38:26it's quite a lot of technical whizzery going on here isn't there yes i've practiced it but in

38:59i've now worn them for about three weeks straight i love them so much but not everyone in the sewing
39:04room is an enthusiast i think tracksuits where fashion goes to die so i'm making a yoga outfit but out
39:12of linen defying athleisure expectation glendora's outfit will be made from crisp natural fibers
39:19gray stretch linen trousers will be paired with a stone colored funnel neck top
39:24very flighty very easy to wear i think the whole style sounds very elegant yeah gainer however is
39:30designing for an all action activity i'm making a roller derby training outfit because one of my
39:37daughters-in-law played roller derby so that's the way i'm rolling oh gainer will need to get
39:44her skates on to create mid-rise leggings and matching sports bra with strapping along with an
39:49elasticated skirt for hitting the pub after training this is the bra top so i want to get
39:55this semi put together so we can make sure that the fit is okay i would rather my models nipple
40:01nays didn't show so i've got a little double layer facing when it comes to their sports bras
40:07some sewers have opted to keep things simple i think it's the right size i'm very happy
40:12while others have chosen complex designs that may offer more support that looks okay doesn't it
40:18but bring a greater chance of things going wrong wobbly of hell tell us what you're making i'm making
40:25a costume for my best friend so you know i'm going to go to dance classes together and we always like
40:30to get the video for the social media afterwards yeah so i wanted to make something a little bit
40:34more oomfy right designed for dance class and video afterwards dan's outfit will be adorned with
40:40cords on the hood and hips and constructed from panels of color blocked four-way stretch fabric
40:46that's like your center piece and then i'm going to add this piece in the middle like this
40:52and then the other piece goes like this how do i look a little bit baggy around the crotch
41:00but it's meant to be for exercise right so you don't want it too snug i don't think we want to
41:02touch the crotch all right yeah happy with that brilliant super thank you i've got to get the cuffs
41:08on and the collar on i'm trying to find the back of my t-shirt i'm using this as the pattern guy
41:14because there's no instructions for this i'm having to try and figure it out
41:26halfway through yummy oh god what's she say this is my fold over elastic it's right on the center of the
41:36model it's got to look good so i'll spend more time on this and then rush everything else
41:40i should have finished the top now peter has made progress with his stretch fabric top

41:51of shorts was there a pattern for the rib on the neck no there's no pattern at all i've just taken
41:56it off a t-shirt of mine that isn't laying flat right okay peter's making a skateboarding outfit from
42:04long sleeve stretch jersey as a t-shirt with color matched rib collar and cuffs paired with oversized
42:09shorts it's designed for hitting the skate park and a trendy bar after so the shorts are going to
42:14be loose fitting yes have you measured your model i've only measured his top half yeah i think you

42:29these are shorts the main thing that i've got to do is is get the fit right i know i'm supposed to
42:34measure the model but they're going to be slightly oversized so we'll see how we get on and what are
42:40we making we are making a sweatshirt and some matching shorts for wearing after a posh tennis
42:46match yeah you've lost against jeffrey and you're just off for a free a commiseratory gin and tonic

43:05i may have foolishly chosen quite small piping but you know what it's going in i am really far
43:13behind i'm making a rugby shirt inspired by the shirt i used to wear when i played for county in
43:20northumberland paired with cycle shorts yasmin's green rugby shirt will have bands of red and yellow french
43:26terry at the neck will be a buttoned placket and collar it's an outfit that celebrates her position
43:32in her former rugby team i was a hooker and my dad's favorite thing to do was just to introduce me
43:39to anyone who has a hooker with no context whatsoever so this is the top and now i'm going to crack on with
43:47my next steps and i can do a little tick this is the hood i'm adding the line to the hood this hoodie
43:54is intentionally quite oversized it's a very versatile outfit if you've got the confidence to
43:58wear it because your bra is going to be showing in public the cropped hoodie is a popular choice with
44:03novella and orla but kaz i don't care that is cool isn't it is definitely erring on the shorter side
44:10that's the length of it so i don't know if you can call it a hoodie can you you couldn't just wear
44:15that could you with a color scheme paying homage to an iconic bruce lee outfit kaz is making a
44:23sleeveless crop top skirt and matching hoodie a three-piece she's designed for a non-contact sport
44:29i'm a hundred percent imagining my friends playing tennis in this
44:32i do kung fu but you definitely couldn't wear this for kung fu you've got one hour left
44:471991 so i'm just about to join it in the back and then we'll get the full effect of the strike i'm
44:54leaving the difficult bit to last which is the trousers a little bit more haste trying to get the
45:01panels to line up just don't want any tuck the hardest bit is the zip collar it's the thing that
45:06will make or break my outfit i've gone for a purple colored zip to match the piping zip number three
45:15not doing an awful job nice and even at the top stands tall i'm now just winding on my bobbin for
45:21the trousers i've still got loads to do there's pockets to take easy saki's i really like i mean if
45:26she gets it done i think it will look really cool but she hasn't started constructing the kind of
45:32harness piece for the top i've always wanted to do a fly what a time to learn to do this peter i think
45:41the rib on both the neck and the cuff looks pretty bad concern about construction of the shorts we'll see
45:48i've got my own logo to add on i've got drawstrings to put in all this double to finish off constructing a
45:53hoodie she's got to add draw cords into the hood and the waistband but she does still have quite a
45:59bit to do well i think quite a few of them have knowing that two of us in this room will be going
46:05really really adds to the pressure
46:09half an hour left everybody oh i'm here slipping away
46:16hopefully finishing trousers it's gonna be tight
46:18i have got to do all the elastic waistband just get it done just attaching the waistband
46:26and i'm supposed to measure the model once he's back down but i don't have the time it's gonna be
46:30i'm tidy i've run out of time i won't be doing the skirt it's all gone pear shapes all we do after
46:36this is cover stitch it then do the cuffs and then i'm done three or four things i do need to iron
46:41this that's five things okay that's five things pick it up there's six things it has been frantic but i
46:49have the outline of short i'm just gonna put on my little logo that i made a little o and a little
46:54strach like an accent from i o okay a little talk there but keep going there's no point in getting
47:01my model down because either it's going to fit or it's not i've got time to change it five minutes left
47:07everybody bloody how is it going to be like high absolutely massive need to adjust them quick
47:13it's on it looks good i'm happy savage adjustments but needs must i'm just putting a big seam in kind
47:20of making this up as i go along at the moment the hem is rough to say the least cover stitcher
47:26i could have done that in yellow one minute left oh it's talked at the front the collar's not
47:32gonna have buttons don't have time we have a sweatshirt oh thank you can i use something else
47:38for the machine oh the front's not hemmed oh it's getting too wrong needles up servers the time for
47:45sweating is over we've done it we've done it we've done it we've done it you have done a lot in those few
47:52hours don't knock yourself i really appreciate it 12 laid back and energetic athleisure outfits made to

48:25you've lined the hood in the same plum colored fabric that you've made the body out of which connects the
48:30two really nicely i think that the fit on the top isn't perfect you should have made this tighter
48:36particularly if she's doing yoga moving on to the leggings it does look very tight i can see that that
48:42seat seam is under quite a lot of tension i think there are a few little fit issues but it definitely
48:47feels on brief thank you i think the way that you've constructed all these bands is really really
49:01smart the collar construction is pretty good you've got no buttons it is a shame you didn't get the buttons
49:08on i think the shorts are long and i think it just visually looks a little bit off but otherwise
49:14it's definitely ath and leisure and i love the story
49:25i think this looks absolutely terrific just that little bit of purple the classic wimbledon colors
49:31and i like how visually it lines up with piping in the shorts the quality of your piping is
49:38absolutely fantastic and the quality of this quarter zip at the top is also at first rate i really
49:44like it so much i really like the story but you haven't finished it you haven't got a popper here
50:00but this pocket is super cool i think it's really clever we've got a pin in here and we've got a hole
50:07here i love all the hardware that you've chosen the colors are great the conception is great but the
50:14sewing isn't great we can't get away from that take it easy take it easy don't let the sound i'm not
50:25sure how athleisure it feels it definitely feels like a skateboard outfit but it sort of just feels
50:31like a skateboard outfit i'm going to start by looking at the shorts let's have a little look
50:35around the back what is that so you've just run up the back seam i mean they are four or five inches
50:44too big around the waist yeah i like this fabric but it's big shame about the binding on the collar
50:52and i think the cuffs look a bit big i understand where it's coming from but i think there are quite a
50:57few mistakes in this let me take a selfie you've thought about every little detail of this the orange
51:10band underneath is the same as this and you've got gray binding you've sewn these really neatly
51:17phenomenally difficult to sew all of that elastic onto an edge like that every detail is bang on it's
51:23great thank you so much everybody was kung fu fighting i love where this has come from that
51:35really iconic bruce lee outfit and it's very difficult to insert long strips of different jerseys
51:43into one another and they're absolutely straight as a die you've used black thread i'd have rather seen
51:50a yellow top stitch along the bottom but the neck hole and arm holes are super super sharp it's
51:56fantastic well done some of the sewing isn't perfect you've slightly gathered it here i think on the whole
52:11the fit is really good apart from the bust this seam should have gone through the nipple but i think it
52:17has real impact it's so original give yourself a massive pat on the back thank you so much
52:32i think the fit of it's great and i do really like the way that you've placed the
52:36red triangles into the side it looks great and it fits well over her bust the fly in the ointment is that
52:44it's all aft and not much leisure yeah was there meant to be a skirt yes i think without the skirt

53:01i think this looks super chic i love that you've just got that bluey gray zip which makes it feel
53:08coordinated let me just open this up this is a feature on a lot of sportswear you've got a piece
53:14behind the zip and i think it works really really well we've got a little tuck in the corners on that
53:20front piece i mean to me this is the kind of embodiment of athleisure it is both sporty
53:26and comfortable everyday clothing thank you
53:38i really like the combination of colors you've got the neck rib sitting really nicely it's laying flat
53:46the cuff works well you've got that nice gather into the cuff the finish is nice and clean around the top
53:53it's a little loose on the front it could have done with being a bit tighter but on the whole
53:57i think it nails the brief and it looks great
54:08i think the combination of the sort of icy white underneath and that dusky pink on the top
54:14work really well and the shape is lovely i do like that you've used the white zips go with the underneath
54:20this one isn't perfect the teeth are slightly closer to the edge that one is pretty good but
54:26you've got a tiny gap at the top of the zip but it very much nails the athleisure brief well done thank
54:33you great feedback from the judges they liked the outfit they thought it was fun can't complain i am
54:40so so so happy with the comments i got from esme and patrick i cannot believe it i think they liked the
54:45idea but i just didn't finish it in time i don't think the judges would be harsh i didn't finish them
54:50particularly well i think i did okay in that challenge but in the first challenge i was at the
54:54bottom two people have to go so we'll just have to wait and see congratulations on an amazing activewear
55:03week you have all smashed your pbs but let's find out who got gold our garment of the week this week is
55:23we loved it it was so cool every detail was so beautifully thought through the fit was great
55:29it was perfect athleisure well done and now for the difficult bit you're all so talented this was a
55:37really difficult decision but the two sewers leaving us this week are
55:41i'm so surprised i kind of half expected to hear my name called they were totally justified in what
56:01they said and yeah i've learned from them this is a big learning experience for me hey just go and do
56:07good okay peter he was reflecting who he was but it wasn't well saying yeah you're all you're all so
56:14good i kind of had a feeling i was going to go because i just hadn't kept most of the challenges
56:19within time there was so many brilliant ideas safi i'm disappointed because i'd really like to see
56:26more from safi but her execution let her down well done i truly didn't expect to win it for sports so
56:35really happy i mean couldn't have asked for anything better really all it was a very deserving winner
56:39of garment of the week she absolutely nailed that athleisure brief well done i really enjoyed this
56:46week and i think the standard of the sewers is pretty good so i'm really looking forward to next week
56:53next time it's design icons week oh my god the sewers make wrap dresses quick quick quick go punk
57:07with soft furnishings and create garments worthy of a versace runway how are you not going to show
