02:19优优独播剧场——
02:49It's kind of starting to feel a little bit weak.
02:52The closer I get to this thing, the more real it gets.
02:58At a staggering 370 meters high, it's home to the world's highest commercial bungee jump.
03:05And I'm here to jump off of it.
03:12As I ascend to the top, the true sense of how high this bridge is becomes very clear.
03:19Looking down, like, there's a whole village below me.
03:23That's how high this is.
03:26With my height, weight, and overall fitness given the all clear.
03:35It's official.
03:40I'm ready to go.
03:42The last thing to do is suit up.
03:48This is nuts.
03:49I'm about to jump off a bridge.
03:55I'm almost 100 stories in the air, and I'm hanging by a single line.
04:08It just feels so unnatural to be getting ready to step off of this bridge.
04:15But my body's telling me to run right now.
04:19I'm ready.
04:20Waiting for the countdown feels like an eternity.
04:26My heart is pounding.
04:29It's all I can hear.
04:31It's wild.
04:54World's highest bungee jump?
04:56Wow.
04:57What an adrenaline rush.
05:00That was one of the most insane things I've ever done.
05:03I think what made it so crazy is when you're standing on the edge, you can't see the bungee,
05:11so you just feel like you're jumping off with nothing.
05:14And then it catches, and you think that you're done, and then you get the second bounce.
05:19I was like, oh, this isn't over yet.
05:23From beneath the bridge, hanging in the enormous void of the valley, I can finally see the true scale of this engineering marvel.
05:31I'm glad that I got it first try.
05:33I would have been embarrassed if they would have counted down and I wouldn't have jumped.
05:37Crew's next, right?
05:41This was the craziest seven seconds of my life.
05:47But it was totally worth it.
05:50And my adventure in Guizhou has only just begun.
05:56With my feet firmly back on the ground, I'm leaving the Balinghe Bridge and heading east.
06:02400 kilometers away is Libow County, a location renowned for its incredible natural beauty.
06:11Welcome to the mystical Xiao Qigong Scenic Area.
06:15Listed as part of a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, it's famous for its old-growth karst forests.
06:23Interwoven with deep valleys, tumbling waterfalls, and bright green waterways.
06:31This hidden treasure in the mountains is a photographer's paradise.
06:42I'm starting my journey here, in the enchanting water forest.
06:49Attracting thousands of tourists each year, this unique network of watery stepping stones creates a surreal path through this lush forest.
06:57This place is pretty cool.
06:58There's like a river that's overflowed its banks and it's just running through the forest.
07:04The gentle sounds of flowing water, rustling leaves, and birdsong blend into a natural symphony.
07:14Here, everything seems to slow down, giving me a moment to appreciate the light, the rocks, the flowing water.
07:21And it all comes together as I capture the perfect shot.
07:24I'm moving on to a location where I can get even closer to my subject.
07:37There's this beautiful, clear river that you can float down in a raft.
07:45So I'm excited to get in there and get some photos from a new perspective, an angle that you don't really usually get to see.
07:51You know?
07:52Is this what we're using to push it along the bottom?
07:56I've spent my life river rafting, but I've never seen paddles quite like this before.
08:07Using such natural tools for the first time might be an interesting experience.
08:13It's really amazing how clear this water is.
08:20You know, it's really hard for me not to jump in it.
08:22It just looks so clean.
08:23You can see fish swimming around at the very bottom.
08:26It's really beautiful.
08:33Just floating down this pristine, crystal clear river, lights filtering down through the trees.
08:39It feels like something out of a film.
08:42One of the things that I've always loved about rafting, you're going to see things that you're not going to see any other way.
08:54What I'm hoping to capture with my photography here is something unique and different.
08:58A perspective that you wouldn't normally get in a beautiful place like this.
09:07So the bridge has come into view.
09:09This is what I was talking about earlier, where the river view is so worth it.
09:13Because from here, you can see the reflection of the bridge makes it a full 360 degrees.
09:18I'm going to try to get some photos here.
09:20As I float down the river, the current moves me into position for the perfect shot.
09:29This is cool because I never could have taken this photo from anywhere but right in the middle of the river.
09:35I think I've got a couple of nice shots, so I'm going to keep moving, but this is pretty epic.
09:48In Guizhou, modern and ancient structures seamlessly coexist, blending nature and history harmoniously.
10:07As my adventure along the Wolong River concludes, I cross the historic Shaoqi Kong Bridge.
10:19This bridge of seven arches, with a rich legacy spanning nearly two centuries since the Qing Dynasty, symbolizes unity for the people of Guizhou.
10:28A connection to their past and a bridge to the future.
10:32And it's the perfect destination for adventure seekers like me.
10:42I'm leaving the magical green waters of the Shaoqi Kong Scenic Area.
10:46And I'm heading east through what locals call the Emerald on the Earth's Belt.
10:53It's the world's largest karst primeval forest.
10:57Guizhou is an explorer's paradise.
11:00Spread across almost 20,000 hectares, the Guizhou Mau Land Nature Reserve is a pristine wilderness larger than some countries.
11:10As beautiful as all of this is, the real beauty here is beneath us.
11:16Riddled with mysterious cave systems, this place attracts adventurers from all over the world.
11:23I'm on my way to meet legendary cave photographer Zhou Yuan Jie.
11:28Jack.
11:29Hey, Ben.
11:30How you doing?
11:31Nice to meet you.
11:33Having taken more than 10,000 photographs of caves throughout China, Jack's an expert at revealing what lies beneath.
11:40And together, we're hoping to reveal what's hiding in the magical caves of Maolan.
11:44It's for you.
11:47Perfect. Thank you.
11:49Before we can descend, we need to gear up.
11:52Falling rocks, low ceilings, and total blackout conditions are just some of the risks we face entering these caves.
11:58So it's pitch black in there.
12:01That's one of the things that makes it actually really fun for photography is you can paint with light.
12:06You can create an image rather than just take an image.
12:09All ready?
12:10Ready.
12:11If you want, you can go first.
12:14Okay.
12:16Here we go.
12:17Yeah.
12:18Be careful.
12:20As we descend, we leave the light behind and enter an eerie world of total darkness.
12:26Wow.
12:29This is a really pretty cave.
12:32Jin Shue Cave, known as the Golden Lion Cave, is a labyrinth of chambers with soaring ceilings.
12:40Wow.
12:41Hey, Ben.
12:44Over there.
12:45You can see the stone?
12:47It's like a line.
12:50A golden line.
12:51Hand?
12:52Over there.
12:53And the main.
12:55There's even the front leg there.
12:57I can see where the cave gets its name now.
12:59Yeah.
13:00It's pretty cool.
13:01It's like a subterranean art gallery.
13:22Oh, wow.
13:23Check this out.
13:24That's a huge column.
13:25Great.
13:26As we venture deeper into the cave, we're searching for a section with a high ceiling and amazing geological formations.
13:41This looks like a pretty cool zone.
13:43Mm-hmm.
13:44Is this where you want to start taking some pictures?
13:47Yeah, sure.
13:48Okay.
13:49You can't hear me.
13:50Yeah.
13:51Yeah.
14:06Three of these strobe lights, which just for an instant just put a super strong flash of light out, and that'll bounce around the cave.
14:14Our eyes might not see it the way that the camera sees it, but that's how you get those amazing photos that he gets.
14:19Cool.
14:20Well, we've got everything set up.
14:21Ready to go.
14:22Let's go take a photo.
14:23All right.
14:24Let's go.
14:25Show me where you want me.
14:26Placement of the flashes is key if we're to reveal the hidden sections of the cave our headlights simply can't see.
14:38So we've got the lights set up over there on that side, and that's going to backlight us, and then this light we put here, and it lights up the foreground.
14:56Perfect.
14:57Yeah, it makes sense to me.
14:59With everything set up, it's time for me to take my position.
15:03Right here.
15:04Move me.
15:05Okay.
15:06One, two, three.
15:07One more.
15:08Switch.
15:09Two, three, two, one, two.
15:10Is that good?
15:11I have a nice photo.
15:12It's amazing.
15:13Jack's technique has lit up the cave, and it's revealed an enormous chamber and ceilings of ancient formations that we couldn't see in the darkness.
15:31As we continue our journey through the caves, around every corner is something even more spectacular.
15:43Something more out of this world.
15:50Exploring the hidden world of Guizhou Malan has reminded me to always explore further.
15:58Mother Nature often has a reward waiting to be discovered for those who are brave enough to find it.
16:07From its towering mountains to enormous river gorges, Guizhou is a land of gigantic scale and stunning scenery.
16:15I'm leaving the caves of Guizhou Malan Nature Reserve and heading west.
16:20Four hours away is an ancient town dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
16:25And I can't wait to explore it on foot with local guide Catherine.
16:29Hi Ben.
16:30It's nice to meet you.
16:32You too.
16:33Welcome to the Tianlong Fort.
16:36From ancient times to present, transportation and military affairs have been of utmost importance in Guizhou.
16:43Actually, it was a military base, a military fort.
16:48Tianlong Tuanpu is a perfect embodiment of this.
16:52Each house, each stone conveys its history and tradition.
16:56Here, every house, every building is made of stone.
17:01And the whole village is a city made of stone.
17:05It should be very unbreakable.
17:08So how old is this place?
17:10600 years.
17:11600 years old.
17:13Wow.
17:14Yeah.
17:15The province of Guizhou was established around 1413 during the Ming Dynasty.
17:20At more than six centuries old, it's incredible to think it was established nearly 80 years before Columbus reached the Americans.
17:30You see the windows?
17:32It's very narrow.
17:33Why are they so small?
17:35Yeah, it's so small outside.
17:38But it's, in fact, it's very wide inside.
17:42Yeah, so it's not just for lightning.
17:45It has defense functions.
17:48Oh, I've heard about this.
17:50So this architecture is the architecture of China 600 years ago.
17:54Yes.
17:55The role of this ancient fort was to guard the border in the southwestern region.
18:01Its residents were the Tunpu people, and their descendants still share this name today.
18:07It's very ancient.
18:08It feels like you're kind of walking through a time capsule in China.
18:11Oh, yes.
18:12It's pretty amazing that this has been here longer than the country that I'm from has been a country.
18:18Yes.
18:20To notice the lady in a blue dress and in a local dress.
18:25Looking good?
18:26Yeah, I like it.
18:27I think not only showcase the elegance of the past, but also add a splash of color.
18:35With so much of the city still preserved, I'm curious to see what traditional practices might also remain.
18:43Oh, wow.
18:45Hello.
18:46Hi, Hi.
18:47Hi.
18:48Hi.
18:49Hi.

18:57By hand?
18:58Wow.
18:59That's incredible.
19:00That's really beautiful.
19:01It's really beautiful.
19:02Yes.
19:03This is a pommel pinnake.
19:04Yes.

19:06Yeah, this is a fish tail.

28:15Alright, so I'm going to start gearing up
28:18The idea here is that I'm going to get up on this rope
28:22And take some photos of Wei climbing
28:25I've been climbing for over 30 years
28:28But the grade of this rock wall is too difficult for even me to climb
28:32It's going to be an enormous challenge for Wei to reach the top
28:36Everything look good to you?
28:38Okay
28:39Good, good, good
28:40Yep
28:42Alright
28:43Well, the hardest part is always just getting off the ground
28:45I'm off the ground now
28:46So
28:50One of the things that I've learned
28:51Shooting professional athletes like Wei
28:54Is that they can never be waiting on me
28:57So as a photographer, my real challenge is to be one step ahead of him
29:02I've reached my position in this first section before Wei
29:07So I've got some time to enjoy this amazing view
29:12This is one of the things I love about climbing
29:14How many people get to hang 100 meters in the air
29:17In a cavern in China with a view like that
29:20These are the things that make life special
29:23Wei has to climb a total of around 100 meters
29:32And at this height, he needs to take every step seriously
29:42And at this height, he needs to take every step seriously
29:46As Wei continues to climb, he's reached a terrifying obstacle
29:59He needs to swing out and leap off the rock wall
30:05He's gonna need all of the courage he can muster
30:07One, two, three
30:09It's a terrifying moment
30:15But I instinctively pressed the shutter button
30:23But Wei's okay
30:24And he's ready to try again
30:26And he's ready to try again
30:28And he's ready to try again
30:29And he's ready to try again
30:30And he's ready to try again
30:31And he's ready to try again
30:32And he's ready to try again
30:38Nice Wei
30:39Good job
30:40Good job
30:41Dude, that was amazing
30:42Good job
30:43Good
30:45I got my photo

31:49He's in the overhanging stuff right now. This is the hardest part, 300 meters over the water below. It's pretty incredible to be up this high.
32:01As Wei continues his ascent, witnessing his triumph over one of the most challenging sections of the rock wall is truly inspiring.
32:13Nice! Yeah, he got through the crux. Good job, Wei!
32:21Thank you, babe!
32:23Ha-ha! That was good work.
32:27On this incredible climb in Goetou, I didn't just observe its beauty, I lived it.
32:33It's a powerful reminder that every moment here echoes Guizhou's incredible spirit of adventure.
32:39And how much of a paradise it is for outdoor adventurers like me.
32:43With my climbing gear packed, I'm hiking out of the Goetou River scenic area and traveling west.
32:55I'm heading to the most famous waterfall in China.
32:59Known as the land of waterfalls, more than a dozen weave their way through Guizhou's spectacular mountainous landscape.
33:15I've come to the most famous, Huang Guoxhou waterfall.
33:21Not only is it the highest waterfall in China, it's part of the world's largest waterfall cluster.
33:31With each incredible plunge, it draws explorers and photographers like me from around the world.
33:40There's something like 18 of these waterfalls in a row, and this is just one of them right here.
33:45This is so much bigger and more impressive in person than I thought it was going to be.
33:49It's at least three times larger than I expected.
33:54Located on the Bai Shui River, Huang Guoxhou waterfall is enormous at nearly 80 meters high and over 100 meters wide.
34:12There's actually more viewpoints on the way up.
34:14What I'm going to do is I'm going to head up there and I'm going to try to get some long exposure shots.
34:18They should really show the water in motion on this waterfall.
34:26What I find really cool about this is, you know, this waterfall has really easy access to amazing viewpoints.
34:33You can really see where the water's hitting the pool below.
34:36It looks like there's so much power coming off of the top of that waterfall.
34:39I can actually see people behind the waterfall, and I think that I might be able to get behind this waterfall.
34:55I'm going to go check it out.
35:03This incredible waterfall attracts over five million visitors annually.
35:07And when they said that this is China's most popular waterfall, I didn't realize it was going to be quite this crowded.
35:14It's kind of hard to get to the front of the line to get pictures.
35:20The closer I get, the more sprays coming off the waterfall, so I think I'm going to get pretty wet.
35:32Stepping inside this enormous waterfall is a surreal experience.
35:46I'm inside the beast.
35:56And the noise is deafening.
35:59All the water's coming down just like three meters that way.
36:05But right here, it's just like a pocket where I can stand and stay dry.
36:13Every second, more than 400 cubic meters of water rushes over the edge, making it one of the most powerful waterfalls in Asia.
36:24It's insane.
36:26The water is literally vibrating my body as I'm standing meters from the edge.
36:30The sheer scale of Huang Go Shu is astonishing.
36:43From this final vantage point, I get the angle I've been searching for.
36:52Got it!
37:00Huang Go Shu from every angle is a spectacle beyond words.
37:19This area is famous for having more waterfalls than anywhere else in China.
37:22So I'm really excited to see if I can find something like this with nobody else around.
37:26Where I get to take photos and explore all by myself.
37:33Something almost secret.
37:38But to find a remote waterfall, I'm going to need to get off the tourist trail.
37:42I'm Ben Horton, National Geographic Explorer and Photographer.
37:56And I'm uncovering the secrets, attractions and mysteries of one of the most awe-inspiring destinations on the planet.
38:03Huizhou.
38:07In search of a remote waterfall, I'm leaving Huang Go Shu and heading west.
38:11Just under six kilometers away, in the small rural village of Da Shui, is a remote section of the waterfall cluster.
38:17So, I got in touch with this guy, Frank, who's a climber friend of mine.
38:26Frank heard what I was saying about wanting to see the real kind of raw China.
38:30And I think he's got a remote hidden waterfall for me to explore, check out.
38:35So, I'm really excited.
38:40Hidden among these mountains is a truly incredible waterfall.
38:44Made up of three massive cascades, it totals over 400 meters of whitewater.
38:50Michal, Frank.
38:54Yo!
38:56What's up?
38:57How you doing?
38:59This looks really cool.
39:00So, our plan is, we're going to cross here, and then we're going to rappel off?
39:05Sure.
39:09Okay.
39:10And how big is the rappel?
39:1125 meters.
39:13Okay, so we're going to be pretty high up there.
39:15The good news is the water is sweet, not super cool.
39:20Mm-hmm.
39:21Good for swimming.
39:22Yeah.
39:23Yeah.
39:24Well, should we get ready?
39:25Mm-hmm.
39:29With a 25 meter sheer drop, precision and expertise is needed for such an adventure.
39:36Every detail, every rope, will be meticulously checked and double checked by our safety team.
39:42A fall here could be fatal.
39:48Move your hand, pass it.
39:49Good.
39:51Good.
39:53So, passed the safety check, and now we get to go rappel off of a waterfall.
40:02As we venture out to the very top of the waterfall, I can feel excitement and tension building.
40:08The anticipation of them sailing down a nine-story waterfall is hard to ignore.
40:15First up is Frank.
40:17He's going to show me the safest route down.
40:20Taking the wrong route at this height could have disastrous consequences.
40:25And it's the perfect opportunity for me to take a photo of Frank in his element.
40:29That was cool.
40:30It looks like the water kind of goes airborne right here, so hopefully I can get some shots
40:42where we're actually, like, in the waterfall.
40:44I think that'd be really cool.
40:46This is exactly what I was looking for.
40:52Standing at the sheer drop, I can't help but marvel at the power of the waterfall.
40:56This is pretty cool.
41:01Check this out, man.
41:09This looks much cooler from up here than back over there.
41:14But I think what's coming up is the fun part.
41:16Every second, thousands of liters of water pour over the edge of this giant waterfall.
41:37This is cool.
41:38How incredible is this?
41:39What a unique experience to get to rappel down a waterfall in the middle of a canyon.
41:40Having friends like Frank really helps you get into some amazing places.
41:41And the power of the water is literally ripping my feet off the surface of the rocks.
41:58There's a good spot to take a break right here.
42:04It's kind of caving in right here.
42:09My feet are numb and unable to stand.
42:15I have no choice but to leave the water and take a rest.
42:45With a final leap, I've made it to the bottom.
43:06That was cool.
43:07I can't believe I just repelled off a waterfall into an erasus.
43:09That's what I love about China.
43:10You can end up finding places like this and experiences like this that you're going to
43:11remember for the rest of your life.
43:12This journey has not just been about the thrill of adventure and the wonders of nature.
43:15Each step, each climb, each experience has been a lesson in understanding.
43:27A bridge that connects me, the visitor, to the real essence of Chinese culture.
43:32It's been a lesson in understanding.
43:37A bridge that connects me, the visitor, to the real essence of Chinese culture.
43:44And I've only scratched the surface.
43:48There are so many more adventures and places of incredible beauty and culture to be experienced
43:54here.
43:55And I cannot wait to come back to explore more magical Guizhou.
