West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a Wakefield man believed to have been assaulted before Christmas has died in hospital.

00:0772-year-old Stephen Jedniak was taken to hospital after the ambulance service attended his home in Crofton following concerns for his welfare on Christmas Eve.
00:17Police believe he'd been assaulted on Thauntree Court a day earlier.
00:21Mr Jedniak died on the 27th of December and the coroner's office has referred his death to police for further investigation.
00:28Detective Chief Inspector Michael Cox reassured the public and said it was believed to be a targeted assault with no wider risk to local residents.
00:37He said a thorough investigation is underway to establish how Stephen lost his life and his family are being supported by specialist officers.
