Rescuers and a dog were all okay after the dog fell through the surface of a frozen pond in Rhode Island.
Transcript
00:00Take a look. It was a close call on the ice in westerly Rhode Island.
00:04A lucky ending, though, for a family dog.
00:07This dog named Phoenix had wandered onto the frozen pond during a morning walk
00:11and broke through right near the center.
00:14Firefighters quickly suited up in ice rescue gear and made their way into the water,
00:18reaching Phoenix within minutes and pulling him safely back to shore.
00:21Both the rescuers and the dog were checked out for hypothermia.
00:24All were doing well.
00:26Fire officials say it marks the first successful rescue in this community of 2026.
00:30They're reminding everyone that no ice is ever truly safe ice.
00:35Yeah, unfortunately, we just have had way too many videos like this
00:38showing you people, dogs, deer being rescued from the ice.
00:42So that just goes to show that it's not safe.
00:43Yeah, this is dangerous stuff here.
