00:00Back in the crosshairs of Donald Trump, the US president shifting his target after forcibly

00:06removing Nicolas Maduro from Caracas over the weekend.

00:10It's pushed officials in Greenland to start speaking out.

00:13Our country is not really the right one to compare with Venezuela.

00:18We're a country that is democratic and has been democratic for many, many years.

00:22The cooperation we're pursuing right now means that we want to create or re-establish the

00:26cooperation that we previously had with the United States, especially the good cooperation

00:31we've had.

00:32The situation is not such that the United States can simply conquer Greenland.

00:37Defence and foreign policy in the semi-autonomous territory remain in the hands of Denmark,

00:42a NATO member.

00:43This means Greenland too falls under the protection of the military alliance.

00:48For Denmark's Prime Minister, the US threatening a fellow ally has far-reaching consequences

00:53for NATO.

00:54I believe that the American president should be taken seriously when he says that he wants

00:59Greenland.

01:00But I also want to make it clear that if the United States chooses to attack another NATO

01:04country militarily, then everything stops, that is, including NATO, and thus the security

01:10that has been provided since the end of World War II.

01:15While European leaders attempt to show a united front to counter Donald Trump's renewed push

01:20for Greenland, the line of thinking over in the White House is that Washington can do what

01:24it wants.

01:25Nobody's going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.

01:30When Donald Trump returned to power last year, there were fears over the seriousness of his

01:35commitment to NATO and its Article 5 protections.

01:38But now the future of the military alliance hangs in the balance, depending on what he does with

01:43England and if other members respond.
