00:00The crash occurred between 11am this morning and midday here on Picton Road north of Wollongong.
00:07It sparked a major emergency response with paramedics, police and firefighters rushed to the scene.

00:17One, a driver of one of the cars, was airlifted to Liverpool Hospital in a serious condition.

00:58I spoke to witnesses who said people rushed to administer aid immediately after it happened

01:06Fire and Rescue are currently on scene assessing a diesel petrol spill of around 100 litres,
01:11with RFS also here for fire safety given the high temperatures today.
01:15The road is a major connector for Wollongong to Sydney and it remains closed in both directions with no clear sign of when it's going to reopen.
01:22Police remain on scene investigating the crash scene with specialist crash investigation units.
01:28They said this is a timely reminder for those on the road to be extremely safe.
01:34These car accidents, especially on holiday periods, there's a lot of people in cars, a lot of people trying to get to destinations,
01:40which is why the police would encourage everyone just to drive with care and to get to their destination safely.
