These deleted scenes would have made things drastically different.
Transcript
00:00Much like any other creative process, films will go through a whole heap of changes throughout
00:04their productions as their story begins to take shape and evolve. Hell, with entire films sometimes
00:09even being saved in the editing room. Sometimes it only takes omitting a single scene to change
00:15a film though, whether that's its story, a character arc, or something as simple as the
00:20tone, and that's exactly what we're talking about today. So with that in mind, I'm Josh
00:24from WhatCulture.com and these are 10 cutscenes that would have totally changed their movies.
00:30And spoilers for the Batman ahead in entry 7, just to give you a heads up.
00:3410. Frozen 2, Anna Proposes to Kristoff Centering around Anna and Elsa as they venture into an
00:40enchanted forest to save their kingdom and uncover secrets about their family's past, the follow-up
00:46offers a fun-filled adventure. It's not without its faults though, one of which being the ultimately
00:52pointless subplot that sees Kristoff work up the courage to propose to Anna. It adds nothing to
00:58the plot and only really gets its payoff in the film's ending when the pair do tie the knot.
01:03However, this could have been remedied if the film included a deleted song called Get This Right.
01:08A funky love song performed by Kristoff, the song released on the soundtrack album as one of the
01:13bonus tracks would have given more depth and purpose to the character. More importantly though,
01:19it ends with Anna proposing to him, which would have been a far more fitting end for her character's
01:23arc as well as making for a much sweeter moment to end on. 9. The Lion King 1994, Scar makes advances on
01:31Nala. At this point we've all seen The Lion King enough times to know that Scar is one of the most
01:36ferocious Disney villains to appear on the big screen. But one deleted scene released as part of
01:41the signature collection Blu-ray depicts the conniving usurper in a much much darker light,
01:46which would have made the flick a lot less family friendly. In the scene, in question, Scar wonders why
01:52his newly acquired subjects won't show him the same affection that they did to his murdered brother
01:57Mufasa. To which he's given the answer that it's because he has no loving family or devoted queen.
02:04Now here's where things get a little bit weird. After this, Nala enters after Scar raves about wanting
02:10cubs to carry on his lineage. And so a new verse of Be Prepared plays where he tells her to quote
02:16prepare for a stunning proposal, then pins her down and informs her that his quote,
02:21cylinders are firing with fervor. Although this doesn't alter the plot significantly,
02:26this deleted scene would have given the film implications that just wouldn't have fit with
02:30the film's tone. 8. It Chapter 1, Pennywise's Flashback
02:35Andy Muschietti's It was a total crowd pleaser. A real treat that landed with audiences and critics in
02:41part, thanks to the camaraderie and chemistry between its central cast of young losers. Combined
02:47with the updated 80s setting, this version of Stephen King's novel was more funhouse thrills than
02:52nightmarish chills. That isn't to say that the film didn't have any effective horror moments though,
02:58but there was one scene that would have taken the horror to a whole new disturbing level. In an
03:03interview with Variety, Skarsgård spoke of one scene in particular that was cut from the movie,
03:09and thanks to some clever sleuthing from internet users, we now have a scripted version of the
03:14scene. The scene in question would have shown a flashback of the creature in the 1600s confronting
03:18a mother and her newborn. Telling her of how he'd devour them, the script details the mother having
03:24the child follow the monster before we hear a quote, sharp cry from the baby cut off as we hear a crush.
03:31Yeah, so yeah, that's pretty dark. 7. The Batman Proto-Joker
03:37The Batman's only huge sequel tease came right at the very end,
03:41following Paul Dano's riddler finally being locked up for his spot of terrorism. He's consoled by
03:47another inmate in the cell next to his, an inmate that's since been confirmed as the Joker. However,
03:53director Matt Reeves has since revealed that we were originally supposed to get even more of the
03:58supervillain in this movie, with a scene being cut from earlier that had Robert Pattinson's Batman
04:04going into Arkham to consult the Joker in order to get a better psychological profile of the Riddler.
04:10Obviously, this would have transformed the dynamic of the movie massively,
04:13making it clear that Batman and Joker already have a history and a relationship in the movie's universe.
04:206. Get Out Rose was hypnotized too. Get Out follows Chris's visit to his white girlfriend Rose's
04:27parents. However, it doesn't take long for Chris to discover that he's been hypnotized by the mother,
04:31so a rich white man can take over his body and get a few more years in the land of the living.
04:36However, an extended conversation in a deleted scene, reveals a telling detail that would have
04:41completely changed the film's big twist. The fact that originally, Rose was hypnotized too.
04:47In the scene in question, Chris confronts his girlfriend about being in the sunken place,
04:52before Rose tells him that she was also hypnotized by her mum to help overcome stage fright in high
04:58school. Of course, Rose could well be lying here in order to reassure her soon-to-be victim,
05:04but the implication is that she is also an unwilling participant in her family's twisted kidnapping
05:09scheme. The premise of Get Out is much scarier though if the Armitage family are all acting on
05:14their own accord, and director Jordan Peele has said that this scene was cut to avoid giving Rose any
05:19kind of out. Number 5, Return of the Jedi Yoda hid the truth. When it comes to the Star Wars franchise,
05:25there is arguably no character as recognizable or adored as a little green Jedi Master Yoda.
05:32With his philosophical teachings and guidance, Yoda is definitely one of the good guys, but a brief line
05:38in a rare deleted scene in Return of the Jedi shows that the kindly mentor has some deviously
05:43manipulative tactics. Rediscovered from the film's laser disc version, the scene in question shows a
05:49conversation between Luke, the ghost of Obi-Wan, and Yoda on his deathbed. It's during these dying
05:54moments that Yoda confesses that it was actually him who kept the truth about Luke's Sith Lord
05:59father from the Jedi in training all this time. The line, Obi-Wan would have told you if I let him,
06:05is the incriminating one here. Though it's delivered in a throwaway fashion,
06:09the implications of it for the original trilogy are huge. Not only does it show Yoda being the decision
06:15maker on keeping Luke in the dark, it also tells us that Obi-Wan was in on the secret the whole time
06:20as well. Watching both A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back with this in mind will present both
06:25these characters in a somewhat less flowering light. Number 4, King Kong 1933, The Spiders.
06:32Chronicling the expedition of a film crew to the ominously titled Skull Island where they stumble
06:36upon the existence of the titular ape. Pioneering special effects artist Willis O'Brien's blending of
06:42clever stop motion and live action effects made King Kong a monstrously spectacular big screen
06:47event back in 1933, as well as standing as tall as King Kong himself is one of the best monster
06:53movies ever made. Despite causing carnage during the film's final act though, Kong was ultimately
06:58presented as a caring creature who was pushed past his limit by the real monsters in the picture,
07:04those being the humans. In one deleted scene from an early version of the film though, Kong was shown to
07:10be a lot more malicious when he forced a group of sailors into a ravine full of giant hungry spiders.
07:17Number 3, Sunset Boulevard, Talking to the Dead. Directed and co-written by Billy Wilder who won an
07:23Oscar for his efforts, Sunset Boulevard is without a doubt one of the most influential films ever put
07:28to screen. Beginning with the now iconic scene of screenwriter Joe narrating the aftermath of his own
07:33death as his body floats in a pool, the cynical study of Hollywood stardom follows the writer as he
07:38becomes entwined in the delusions of older movie star Norma Desmond. The result is an all-time
07:45banger of a film. Believe it or not though, the original opening presented a far different tone.
07:50Laughed at by test audiences, the alternate scene showed a living Joe in a morgue talking to corpses
07:57about how they all died. Disheartened by the reactions Wilder reshot the opening to a cost of
08:02around $150,000, a priced Studio Paramount were happy to pay for the far more superior introduction.
08:09Number 2, Cars, The Car Graveyard. The creative team at Pixar are known for tackling more mature
08:15themes in their films, but this deleted scene in Cars was a bit too ghoulish even for them.
08:20The redemption story of hotshot race car Lightning McQueen, who finds friendship with a convoy of
08:26colourful characters in small town Radiator Springs after being ordered to repair the damages he caused,
08:31this two-time Oscar nominated film is as charming as you'd expect a Pixar film to be.
08:36Of course, this is all after an early scene was removed that showed McQueen stumble on a car
08:41graveyard. Titled Lost, the aforementioned sequence takes place when the champion racer gets lost,
08:47trying to find his way back to the interstate at night after becoming separated from his friend at a
08:52truck stop. Full of genuinely harrowing, existential-filled imagery of scrapped cars,
08:57this would have been too intense even for Pixar standards. While it does show McQueen confronted
09:03with his own mortality, the scene only raises questions about what happens when these adorable
09:07anthropomorphic automobiles actually expire. Number 1, Terminator 2, Judgment Day, Be More Human.
09:15Hailed as one of the best sequels and action movies ever made, James Cameron's Terminator 2,
09:20Judgment Day builds on the action and worldbuilding of the first film to spectacular fashion as we see
09:26Sarah Connor join forces with Schwarzenegger's T-800 to save her son from the even more deadly T-1000.
09:33Following an intense action scene where we see the T-800 save the Connors from being terminated,
09:38there's a brief scene in a gas station where the pair asks the cybernetic killers some questions,
09:43one of them asking if Terminators can learn to be more human. In the theatrical version,
09:48the scene cuts with the T-800 explaining that he learns by spending time with humans. However,
09:53this scene originally went on much longer, and in the full version, he gives a lot more information,
09:59detailing that the CPU inside his head has to be switched on from read-only to write. While this
10:05scene, which was cut to save time, doesn't affect the emotional impact of the ending, including it with
10:11the special edition release allowed viewers to understand the killing machine's emotional
10:15evolution from a different perspective. He doesn't just learn how to be human, he allows himself to
10:22learn. So that's our list, I want to know what you guys think down in the comments below, what do you
10:26think about these deleted scenes and are there any cool ones I missed off here? While you're down there
