00:00After nearly two years of grit and persistence, Ghanaian artist Sharon Didi Paddy has turned
00:06ambition into history. Last month, she earned a Guinness World Record for creating the longest
00:13leaf print painting by an individual, a striking artwork stretching 584.8 feet made entirely from
00:23leaf impressions. I grew up at New Tafo Akim, which is a very vegetative area, very green leaves all
00:36around us. And I have fallen in love with leaves from my childhood. So coming across the largest
00:44leaf print painting, I decided why not? Why don't I give it a try? The journey wasn't smooth. In 2024,
00:52Paddy fell short of her first Guinness attempt for the longest continuous painting session. But
00:58instead of giving up, she refined her idea and came back stronger. I am super, super excited. I wanted
01:08to be a record holder. That was my one dream. Two, I wanted to project the Ghanaian culture heritage
01:17to the world, which I have done so through the Ghana flag, and also through my first attempt by
01:25bringing out a lot of paintings on our culture. Her record-breaking piece features the Ghanaian flag,
01:31using leaf prints to fuse national identity with nature, placing Ghanaian culture on the global stage.
01:39Beyond the record, Paddy is a driving force in Ghana's art space. Through her gallery,
01:46she champions African art, cultural heritage, and women's empowerment. She hopes her achievement
01:53will open doors for Ghana's art industry and encourage more women and children to take up art and painting.
02:01I'm looking at going beyond Ghana to West Africa, to Africa, and to Europe and America,
02:08where I'm going to impact the Ghanaian culture, heritage through painting.
