00:04Because I've been listening and reading about breakdowns of the Chargers defense a lot.
00:10How they prefer to play zone.
00:11They really don't get away from that too much.
00:15Do they have enough variety in their, I guess, defensive bag to change things up and confuse Drake May?
00:26And make it a problem for Josh McDaniels to figure it out.
00:30They're like the Patriots in that they rely on being structurally sound more than they do trying to confuse everybody.
00:39I think that's a major component.
00:42The more I hear it, the more I think about it, the more I think it's right.
00:45Like your best chance at somehow turning Drake May back into a pumpkin is to confuse him, get him off his game early, and get him thinking about stuff.
00:59And maybe tricking him to throw in a bad interception like he did into the red zone a couple of weeks ago.
01:04Like, you know, just stuff like that.
01:06But I don't know that the Chargers have it within them defensively to change what they do all that much.
01:12They, well, I would disagree with that.
01:16Like, I think that they can morph and change.
01:18Like, are they going to throw a zillion things at you in a single game?
01:21No.
01:23But they have one of the best players in the league at any position on their defense, and that's Derwin James.
01:28And he, I would say, he changes absolutely everything for them.
01:34When he hasn't been in there, it changes what they do.
01:37Like, they're in nickel a lot when he's in there, and he is the, he's basically, he is the nickel.
01:43So he plays like a slot corner type of position.
01:46What that does is, you know, normally when you, if a defense goes into the nickel, right, like you're going to say, okay, we're going to run it at them.
01:57The problem is Derwin James is almost like a linebacker, right?
02:01Like, so you can't run at them in the nickel the same way you can run at other teams, which allows them to keep their passing game personnel out there.
02:10And like, they move Derwin around a lot, you know, so it kind of can screw with some things in your running game.
02:16And so I think that that's the interesting part of this.
02:18Like, that's where like losing Matt Collins is a factor this week.
02:21And, you know, if, if you get Pop Douglas or Stefan Diggs not wanting to block out of the slot, Derwin James is going to blow up your run game.
02:31And now all of a sudden you're in long yardage, and that changes the, that changes things, of course, for any quarterback.
02:37So, and, and Drake's been great in long yardage, but there's, there's challenges in what they do.
