00:00Previously, on Project Runway Canada, there are only three spots in the finale.
00:04So, tonight will be someone's final chapter.
00:07This is what I've been waiting for.
00:08This look was fabulous.
00:10I mean, it's fantastic.
00:11This is impeccable.
00:13The first designer to make it to the finale is Charles.
00:16Yay!
00:18The second designer joining us in the finale is Furtis.
00:23Oh, my God.
00:24You, Foster, and Leland, you are both so talented in your own rights, but only one of you can move on to the finale.
00:37I feel so proud of myself that I didn't give up, and I made it this far.
00:42Honestly, I've given them everything.
00:45Y'all know how badly I want this.
00:48I am sweating in so much rhinestone neoprene right now.
00:54Leland, you are in, and you will be moving on to the finale.
01:06Congratulations.
01:07Thank you, guys.
01:08I really appreciate it.
01:09Thank you so much.
01:11I can't believe it.
01:12It all paid off.
01:13I've never been this proud before.
01:16Foster, that means you are out.
01:20I am so proud of the work I did.
01:22You know, it's been a journey, and I'm so honored to be standing here with these three incredible designers.
01:29Foster, I can tell you're class at, and I'm so impressed of you.
01:33Do not change that.
01:34Can I give you a big, big hug?
01:36Thank you so much.
01:37Thank you so much.
01:39Thank you so much.
01:41Congratulations.
01:42That's a lot.
01:42I want you to know that you have made me the proudest mentor.
01:56Oh, thank you.
01:59How do you feel?
02:00I guess I'm emotional in a way.
02:02It's always sad to get to the brink of something that you want and not have it.
02:07Watching you grow and develop has been absolutely insane.
02:13And you're really talented.
02:15Thank you, Laura.
02:16Can I give you a hug?
02:17Thank you so much.
02:19This does not take anything away from me.
02:21I wanted to see if I should stay in the business, or have I just been telling myself a lie?
02:27But I'm a great designer.
02:28I just didn't win $100,000, but I'm excited about the future.
02:33Congratulations to our fabulous trio.
02:39Woo!
02:40You have made it to the finale.
02:42Are you ready to hear about your final challenge?
02:46Yeah.
02:47You will each have seven weeks and $10,000 to create your own collection of ten looks.
02:56This is your chance to show your voice.
02:59And most importantly, why you deserve a feature spread in Elle Canada magazine.
03:05From TD, a career-launching investment of $100,000.
03:10And the title of Canada's next great fashion designer.
03:15Before you go, us judges have some advice for you.
03:20You are three incredibly talented individuals in personality and in style.
03:28Leland, you are a master craftsman, but we question your ability to not be referential.
03:38You need to give us something that is authentically Leland in this finale.
03:45Curtis, we love your historical references, but we're really hoping to see some modernity in your final collection.
03:50Charles, we know a Charles design the moment it comes down that runway, but for your final collection, we need to be wowed like never before.
04:04Challenge accepted.
04:06All the best with your collections, and I can't wait to see what you come up with.
04:11Now go celebrate.
04:15We'll miss you.
04:16We'll miss you.
04:16We'll miss you, too.
04:19We did it!
04:24We made it!
04:25We're top three!
04:26I'm so excited for this.
04:31Woo!
04:32Top three!
04:34Top three!
04:36I'm smiling like a little kid.
04:38My cheeks hurt.
04:39I'm going to push myself so hard.
04:42This feels incredible.
04:43I've worked harder than I've ever worked in my entire life, and it paid off.
04:49Oh, my God!
04:50Oh, my God!
04:53Oh!
04:55Final three!
04:56Yes!
04:58May I propose a toast?
05:01The final three to ten looks each, and the chance to really show Canada who you are.
05:11Cheers.
05:12Cheers.
05:12Cheers.
05:14Take it all in, and remember, tomorrow, the real work starts.
05:19I'll be checking in.
05:21Bye, Aurora.
05:22Thank you for having me.
05:23Top three.
05:24To us.
05:27At stake for the winner, from TV, a career-launching investment of $100,000 and a feature in Elle Canada magazine.
05:36With global supermodel Coco Rocha.
05:39Fashion designer, Spencer Badu.
05:41Creative director, creative director, Aurora James.
05:43And legendary fashion journalist, Jeannie Becker.
05:47This is Project Runway Canada.
05:50Getting home, I just feel like a serenity over myself.
06:03This is my neighborhood.
06:05This is my hood.
06:07My shop in Chinatown.
06:08My shop in Chinatown means the world to me.
06:10That's where I'm making the finale collection.
06:13This is huge.
06:14Realistically, I've got four out of ten looks about halfway done, and I've never made a collection
06:21before, so it feels a little scary being the person that has to make all of the decisions.
06:26And when I was coming into this, I was afraid that I was going to be labeled as the costume designer, but I made incredible high fashion garments.
06:34I listened to the critiques, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show the world this is who I am.
06:41Ma, I'm just going to put this over here, okay?
06:46Yeah, sure, babe.
06:48How do you feel about Aurora seeing the collection?
06:51I feel good about it.
06:52It is looking really cool and high fashion-y so far.
06:56I really want this to be a punk rock Chinatown collection.
07:01I feel so confident in it and so excited to show it off.
07:06It's going to be good.
07:07Ma, you're going to be front row going, hmm.
07:09You too, Pawpaw, you're going to go...
07:11Everybody's going to say, Leland Mitchell, and I'm going to say, yes, he's my son.
07:18Yes, he's my son.
07:22It's been a month, and I am so excited to check in with the designers.
07:26I want to see some risks.
07:27There's $100,000 on the line.
07:30My first visit's with Leland, and I still have some questions about whether Leland is a fashion designer or a costume designer.
07:37Oh, my God!
07:39Hi!
07:39Bring it in.
07:41I'm so happy to be here.
07:44This is my mom, Barb.
07:45Nice to meet you.
07:46Nice to meet you.
07:47This is my Chinese grandma, Ying, my Pawpaw.
07:50You kind of grew up in here.
07:52A hundred percent.
07:53They've owned this place since the 60s.
07:56Is he living your dream?
07:58Yes, he is.
07:59He's my twin.
08:01Oh, Ma.
08:01It's in our genes.
08:03I'm very, very proud to see Leland accomplishing his goal.
08:08In the Chinese culture, you don't talk about your emotions.
08:12And just having my mom realize and see everything, it feels incredible.
08:18Oh, Ma.
08:18Any design advice that you give Leland?
08:21Don't overthink things.
08:23Keep it very basic.
08:24Oh, wow.
08:26That doesn't feel like a Leland thing.
08:28I don't know about that one, Ma.
08:29I feel so seen right now.
08:31I cannot wait to see this collection.
08:35Shall we?
08:35Let's do it.
08:36Bye.
08:37With Leland, I'm really expecting something that's colorful.
08:41I'm imagining sequins or sparkle.
08:43I'm just hoping that it's chic.
08:46So, come on in.
08:49Oh, my gosh.
08:50Look at all of this.
08:51Yes.
08:52Wow.
08:54Absolutely incredible.
08:58The dragon.
08:59Oh, my God.
08:59Puff.
09:00Love him.
09:00Hyena.
09:01Bruce.
09:02In a top hat?
09:03In the top.
09:03He's dapper, you know?
09:05Never seen a stuffed hyena in someone's house before.
09:08There's nothing subtle about Leland.
09:10How has it been for you the last month?
09:12I've learned so much through this competition.
09:16I feel wiser.
09:17I feel ready to build a collection.
09:19So, I can already see everything kind of coming together.
09:23One thing that I'm really leaning into this collection is my heritage and who I am as a person.
09:28I really want to mix Scottish plaids with some Chinese embellishments.
09:34And I've had this idea of just swimming in the back of my mind for years.
09:37So, what I've actually done here is this is a heat transfer vinyl that I've done in a branch pattern all across the skirt fabric.
09:44And then after I'm done that, I literally hand, like, stitch each individual cherry blossom on.
09:51This, to me, screams what I would be wearing out.
09:55All right.
09:55There definitely is a lot going on here.
09:58There's no shortage of color.
09:59This yellow is, like, very yellow with the pink.
10:02Yep.
10:02It's giving theme.
10:04Theme.
10:05Okay.
10:06I understand it's a lot.
10:07But this is what I do.
10:09Sparkly plaids with too much on it.
10:12Is every look in this collection plaid?
10:15No.
10:16Seven to eight.
10:19Ah!
10:20I'm concerned there's just too much plaid.
10:23Right now, I'm not sold.
10:25Because it's just so on the nose.
10:27This is only for looks, though.
10:28Are there going to be looks that are slightly more subtle?
10:32I can show you a few little sketches in here.
10:33Sure.
10:34I'm so excited for this one because it's going to be, like, a bagpipe skirt that are going to be creating a fan effect behind the model.
10:43Okay.
10:44This is your finale look?
10:45Do you want to see the maybe finale look?
10:47I want to see the maybe finale look.
10:49I'm really leaning into, like, an anime Wong Chinese dragon moment, you know?
10:56Not what I would have chosen, but Leland will Leland.
11:01It just re-authenticates for me who Leland is.
11:06The bones are totally here.
11:08Like, to me, this is a really beautiful shape.
11:11I love the transfer that you've done onto it.
11:13Would love to see a leather pant on this.
11:16Like, make it wearable.
11:18Totally agree with you.
11:19It's also critical that you make a hero piece that is not solely the theme.
11:26Got it.
11:27What is the piece that Coco, the genie, that everyone that's seeing is going to be like,
11:32Oh, I have to have this.
11:35I need Leland to give me something that can walk on the steps of the Met Gala.
11:40Remember what your mom said.
11:41Keep it simple.
11:42Keep it basic.
11:44Remember?
11:44I'm not throwing away these designs, but one thing I think I really need to incorporate
11:48here is a tamed-down version of me.
11:52I'm going to leave you to it.
11:54I will see you in a few weeks back at the workroom.
11:56Aw.
11:57Bye, Leland.
11:58For Leland, so much of his whole career has been about his clients making costumes for
12:04people.
12:04I don't know if Leland can figure all of this out in three weeks, but that's the assignment.
12:11I can't believe a floor was in my house.
12:13Oh, my God.
12:17Returning home has been really great, but also a little bit isolating.
12:21I have a lot of work to get done, and I normally do bespoke one-of-one pieces.
12:26I've never done a collection of this scale before, so this is the ultimate challenge.
12:32Not only am I making a massive collection, I'm also holding up a mirror to myself as
12:37a designer and really looking at who I am and what I want to present to the world, so
12:41it's pretty scary.
12:44With Curtis, I'm really looking forward to seeing something completely unique.
12:48Curtis is someone who's constantly surprised me, fascinated me, always piques my curiosity.
12:57Hello.
12:59So nice to see you.
13:00Oh, my God.
13:01I mean, this is very period, a little bit religious.
13:11Do you live here?
13:12Yeah, and my secret studio is hiding right behind that curtain.
13:15Oh, my gosh.
13:17Let's go take a peek.
13:19I'm really excited to have Aurora in here and get a fresh set of eyes on these garments,
13:23because right now I've got rose-tinted glasses on, and I know she's going to give it to me
13:28straight.
13:28Welcome to the studio.
13:31Oh, wow.
13:33I am obsessed.
13:36What is all of this?
13:38There's so much here.
13:39So this is my little altar, and a lot of my looks are referencing these very typical binary, feminine, and masculine characters.
13:48My inspiration for this collection is I spent so long being fearful of everybody else, but now it's time for people to start fearing me.
13:55Ooh, I love that.
13:57I mean, I will say, over the course of this competition, you have really blossomed, and it's been an absolute joy to see.
14:05I did not expect to grow and change as much as I did, I don't even recognize the designer I was at the beginning of this competition.
14:14Now I'm taking big swings, I'm doing experimental stuff, so I think there's no choice but to let me have that win.
14:20What is this?
14:22You're trying to spoil the surprise.
14:25I have a pretty ambitious idea for my final look, and I'm actually going to be constructing what is going to be an entire suit of armor created out of embossed tin.
14:38Whoa.
14:39This tin dress is going to be show-stopping.
14:42I don't think the judges have seen anything like this before, so I'm hoping to really shut it down with this look.
14:48The inspiration is amazing, but it feels like there's a lot going on.
14:53There are so many ideas in my head, and there's only ten looks, and I only have three more weeks, so I really got to figure out what looks are going to sell this collection.
15:03Wow.
15:05It might not look like it right now.
15:07Okay.
15:07But this is going to be my opening look.
15:10I've created this really beautiful, shattered lace, 17th-century-inspired corset piece.
15:15I think where I'm struggling is the bright white.
15:20It's just too harsh.
15:22The white makes this really expensive lace look cheap.
15:25Damn. Okay.
15:27Similarly, the first thing I noticed in this was the white.
15:31I think you're going to have to redo it.
15:33I might not have the time, but that doesn't mean I won't find the time.
15:36This needs to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed now.
15:39All right, let's see this look.
15:42This one, I have to say, obsessed.
15:46Oh, thank God.
15:48This could be, like, a gala moment.
15:51I went for a walk, and I found football shoulder pads on the street, and I took it as a sign.
15:58Keep going here.
15:59I think that the gown is the perfect combination of historical reference, but modern, beautiful, and wearable.
16:07I mean, it's very good.
16:09But you have to keep reaching inside, pulling it out, and taking risks.
16:14Going into the finale, I do consider myself a bit of a dark horse.
16:19I only have one win under my belt.
16:21It's kind of intimidating, but now I'm done being fearful of everyone else.
16:27Hi.
16:28Hi.
16:29Hello.
16:30I'm Aurora.
16:30Great to meet you.
16:31Hi.
16:31So nice to meet you.
16:33Hi.
16:34You as well.
16:34This is my family.
16:35This is who's responsible.
16:37Did you always know that Curtis was going to be this incredible fashion designer?
16:45Yes.
16:46You did.
16:47Fashion's been his whole life.
16:48There's a shot Curtis could win this whole thing.
16:54He amazes us.
16:56Thanks, Todd.
16:57He deserves it, because he works hard.
16:59He's very, very creative.
17:01When you went into this competition, I was scared for you.
17:04I was worried, how are you going to cope with it?
17:08And then the one thing you said to me is, I don't have the luxury of being afraid.
17:14If I'm going to make it in this industry, I need to step up.
17:17I need to show what I can do.
17:19And those were such grown-up words.
17:21I'm very proud of you at that moment.
17:23And now it's like a hundred times more.
17:26I love you, Mom.
17:27I love you, too.
17:30It's been such a pleasure meeting you both.
17:34Curtis, you have a lot to do.
17:36I do.
17:36I'm going to leave you to it.
17:37You guys get back to work, too.
17:39Yes.
17:40Bye.
17:41Bye.
17:41Bye, Aurora.
17:43I know the judges really don't want Curtis to go historical, and I do see a little bit of that here.
17:48But Curtis is being super ambitious, which is exactly what we need.
17:52I think it's going in a really great direction.
17:55But there's a lot of work between where we are and where we need Curtis to be.
17:58The last few weeks have been the most draining.
18:07I've been working 16, 17-hour days.
18:10I'm at my limit.
18:11I'm probably the most tired I've ever been.
18:14People have no idea how physically taxing it is to make garments from scratch.
18:19And I have to be at my peak in order to deliver.
18:21But I know I have so much responsibility to create the collection in a right way.
18:28I'm really fueled to continue.
18:34I don't doubt that Charles is going to deliver something really exciting for the finale.
18:39If it is the thing that can win him, Project Runway Canada, this remains to be seen.
18:46Hi, Aurora.
18:47Hi.
18:48I'm so happy to be here.
18:50It's been so long.
18:52Is this your house?
18:53So we're actually at my parents' home.
18:55Really?
18:56And now my studio is downstairs.
18:58Can we go take a look?
18:59Yes, absolutely.
19:00I'm dying to show you.
19:01I'm nervous for her to see the collection.
19:03She's going to be the first person to see this.
19:06Oh, my gosh.
19:10Welcome to my studio.
19:12Wow.
19:13Are these your parents?
19:14These are my parents.
19:15This is my inspiration.
19:17I'm Vietnamese.
19:18And it started with me meeting my grandmother for the first time.
19:21Not just like chatting.
19:22Like I met her, spoke to her.
19:24How old were you?
19:25This year.
19:27Traveling to Vietnam, I really felt connected to my roots.
19:30It wasn't just about me meeting my grandmother.
19:32It was about my whole family and their journey coming from Vietnam as refugees to Canada.
19:39It was so life-changing, reflecting on my heritage.
19:42And so telling the story in this way, it's a love letter.
19:46It's not a collection.
19:48And it's a big I love you to my family.
19:50It wasn't until I was in this competition that I was ready to tell the story.
19:56This is making me so happy.
19:58Yeah.
19:58Because that's a creative breakthrough.
20:01Yeah.
20:01And especially, like, once I saw my mom's wedding photos, I knew where to go.
20:06I was really inspired by her wedding dress and, like, the shape of the trousers with the
20:10alley-eye, which is the traditional long shirt over the pants.
20:14This is, like, my most authentic self.
20:16It's beautiful.
20:17Thank you so much.
20:19It is so hard to make an emotional collection.
20:22He's being vulnerable.
20:23He's being raw.
20:24And he's putting that on the line for judgment.
20:26Here it is.
20:28Wow.
20:29My collection really is about the intersection between utility, streetwear, and couture.
20:35It's my best work.
20:37The amount of work that has gone into this is so apparent to me.
20:42There are elements of this collection that I was expecting to see.
20:45I'm not surprised.
20:46I'm seeing a lot of black, white, cream.
20:48Those are the Charles staples.
20:49But the references, how he's bringing his Vietnamese family into this work, he's really taking it
20:56to another level.
20:57When I look at this collection, I ask myself, like, where am I wearing these pieces?
21:02And what is wearable?
21:05These are big, powerful looks.
21:09This could be a winning collection, but you have to find a path into people's closets.
21:17Yes.
21:17Because this won't fit in my closet.
21:20Literally.
21:21My collection definitely does have some giant pieces.
21:24So now it's time for me to really reel this whole thing in.
21:27Obviously, I really want to win, but I also need to tell the story in the right way.
21:32I think you know what to do.
21:34But you still have a few hundred hours worth of work to go.
21:39Whew.
21:40You're 30% of the way there.
21:42I can still do it.
21:43I can do it.
21:43There's more in me.
21:44My biggest fear with Charles is that he's actually going to burn himself out.
21:48Charles is his biggest critic and his harshest judge.
21:54Hi.
21:55Hi.
21:56Hi.
21:56Aurora, this is my family.
21:58So nice to meet everyone.
22:00Hi, mom.
22:01My dad and my sister.
22:02Hi.
22:03Hi.
22:04You all haven't seen anything downstairs yet, is that right?
22:08Nothing.
22:09Under wraps.
22:10Very excited to see it.
22:12He told me downstairs that this is his best work yet.
22:17It's art to him.
22:19It's not just a piece of clothing.
22:21It's an expression.
22:23So we're very proud of him, for sure.
22:27Everything he touches turns into gold.
22:30My family means the world to me.
22:32It really motivates me to do my absolute best, and I want this badly.
22:36If he wins this, it's a game changer, right?
22:39I-I signed it for him.
22:41You know, I really want him happy.
22:45Charles, thank you for sharing this collection with me.
22:48I can't wait for you all to see it as well.
22:51I'm going to keep the secret in the meantime, and I know that you have a lot of work to do.
22:55So, I'll see you back in the workroom, okay?
22:58I'll see you back in the workroom.
22:59Very soon.
23:01As beautiful as some of what I've seen is, for Charles to really take this, he needs to scale some of it down.
23:07It has to be wearable, and that is absolutely critical if he wants to win this competition.
23:13Bye.
23:14Bye.
23:14Bye.
23:15See you soon.
23:15I feel a lot of pressure right now.
23:18I've been through a lot in my life.
23:20I've had moments where I could almost taste what I've wanted, and for that to be ripped away from me.
23:25I'm very strong, and there's no way I'm giving up before the end.
23:38I was born for this moment.
23:41I want the glory.
23:42There's nothing that can stop me now.
23:45I know it's for me.
23:47I was born for this instant.
23:49I want the glory.
23:51Yes, I want the glory.
23:53Yes, I want the glory.
23:55Being here in the finale, this is starting to get real.
23:59$100,000 would change my life.
24:02I might not have as many wins as Charles and Leland, but I'm taking risks because that's who I am as a designer.
24:09So, I deserve to win this competition.
24:11I want the glory.
24:12Yes, I want the glory.
24:14Winning Project Runway Canada would be such a validating experience.
24:19This has been a lifelong childhood dream.
24:22Everything in my career led me here to this exact moment.
24:26Yes, I want the glory.
24:28Baby, I earned my spot in this finale.
24:32I want to win so badly.
24:35It's everything I've ever dreamed of.
24:37Yes, I want the glory.
24:38I might be this costume designer and it might be easy to write me off.
24:42But I'm going to eat this competition up.
24:46I've been waiting for this moment for so long and I can't believe this is finally happening.
24:51I can't wait to see what Charles and Leland have been working on.
24:57Okay.
24:58So, this is what the finale looks like.
25:02All my stuff is here.
25:05This is getting really real.
25:06So, I feel really good about what I am bringing, but there's just too much to do.
25:12I can't even begin to make a checklist because I would need way too much paper.
25:16Tertina!
25:17Leland!
25:18Hi!
25:19How are you, baby?
25:20Hello!
25:21Oh, my God.
25:22I love the finale workroom.
25:25Baby, we're here.
25:26Whoa.
25:27This last two weeks, I'm not kidding.
25:29It was like 18 hours a day.
25:32I was just working it, working it, and working it.
25:34Coming up with these 10 incredible looks that are all cohesive and that all match and go together.
25:40It's really pushed me outside my comfort zone.
25:42I've added some leather items, a gorgeous leather gown,
25:45a cool rhinestone tank top.
25:48I just had this creative drive in me to be like, let's do this.
25:58Oh, my God.
26:00It's so big.
26:03Where's everyone?
26:08Yay!
26:10I'm surprised!
26:11After my hometown visit with Aurora, I really forced myself to create pieces and silhouettes
26:18that were more wearable, because it's easy to make really crazy big pieces.
26:22She really pushed me to simplify.
26:25Do I see pink?
26:26You see pink!
26:27Pink!
26:28Pink!
26:29I did pink!
26:30Oh, my God.
26:30She's taking a big swing.
26:31I just want to go inside my comfort zone.
26:33Charles did pink.
26:35I'm sure he thinks this is revolutionary.
26:40Delete that.
26:41Delete that now.
26:43There's so many fun things.
26:44I got obsessed with this giant orange.
26:47My designs are fun.
26:48They're camp.
26:49This is my collection.
26:50So, it is so important that this screams, Leland.
26:56Not shout.
26:56I want to scream, Leland.
26:59But here's the collection.
27:01I have no doubt that Charles is going to give us white and black with some stripes.
27:05This is inspired by an orchid.
27:07And Curtis is going to give us codpiece and nipple piercings and goff.
27:13I made this corset, and then I printed it onto a t-shirt.
27:17That is really fun.
27:17One of my, like, big wow moments is this giant mermaid, like, low-rise sequin moment.
27:25Aurora made me shift my perspective in terms of this collection.
27:29Beautiful.
27:30I love what you did for this.
27:32This is so good.
27:33I have some very wearable pieces that I've integrated my historical thumbprint onto,
27:38but I've subverted them and made them feel super modern and really cohesive together.
27:43Probably some of the most wearable stuff that I've done.
27:46I feel like my collection's the best one.
27:48I'm sure Leland thinks his is the best, and I know for a fact Charles thinks he's already won.
27:53I have so much hand finishing to do.
27:55Hello, designers.
27:57Hey.
27:58So, we're back.
27:59We're back.
28:00I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I kind of missed y'all.
28:04Aw.
28:05We are two days away from the final runway.
28:09This is all happening.
28:12Yay!
28:13We are standing in the former home of a historic fashion institution.
28:19For decades, this space showcased masterful creations, from the likes of Oscar de la Renta,
28:27Versace, Dior, maybe yours truly.
28:31And in 48 hours, it'll be your collections that take center stage right here.
28:38You've spent weeks on your designs, and now it is time to choose the models that will sell your voice and your vision.
28:48What are you looking for in a model?
28:49For me, the less gender, the better.
28:51I want everything so I can just blur it all together and take gender out of the equation completely.
28:55I want people who have personality, and I have so many Asian influences in mind.
29:00I really would love to obviously showcase that on some Asian models.
29:04I'm looking for people with a lot of personal strength and contemporary elegance.
29:09Each of you needs to choose ten models.
29:12Leave no crumbs.
29:13They're going to be selling your collections.
29:15Let's bring our first model in!
29:18Woo!
29:20Yes!
29:22Okay.
29:23This one we're going to have to fight over.
29:24She isn't my colors.
29:26They're mine.
29:26I'm looking for models who can own the runway.
29:31I'm going to fight for you.
29:32The collection itself is just so fun, campy, so I think I really need to, like, get the personality.
29:38You're so cute!
29:40Did you just point your toe up where you're a dancer?
29:42I love you.
29:42Perfect for my collection.
29:45Girl.
29:46Ooh!
29:49So which one of you needs a male model?
29:51I know I need two.
29:53I need two.
29:53You do?
29:54Oh my god, I also need two.
29:55Technically, mine can go on anybody.
29:57With this collection, I really just want to drive home this point that gender does not exist.
30:04And I want to do that with models that can relate to that concept.
30:07It's literally me with bleach tank.
30:09Yeah, it's like blood of hers.
30:13Ooh.
30:15They're mine.
30:15No question about it.
30:16A model can make or break her now, but we need these models to really embody this elegance, this confidence.
30:23Hey!
30:24He has a major attitude here.
30:26I love your walk.
30:28This is screaming Leland.
30:29Yes!
30:30Or is it screaming Charles?
30:31Uh-oh.
30:32Uh-oh.
30:32That is my model.
30:33You want it?
30:34I have to have her.
30:35We're all really good.
30:37Okay, so the first one I think I'm going to clock is Alice is mine.
30:42I'll take that.
30:43Thank you so much.
30:44You take Alice?
30:44I'll take Caitlin.
30:45I think she's actually better suited for my collection.
30:48It's going to be Maya.
30:49Oh, Maya!
30:51Oh, I'm not Sharon.
30:52You wanted Sharon?
30:53I just want to know who's taking Yen.
30:55Yen is that girl.
30:56And you know what?
30:57Something about his calling.
30:58Yen, you wanted to walk for me?
31:00No?
31:00Let's put up all the male models that we've seen today.
31:05I need Tope and I need Brayden.
31:07I feel like I need Shane and Wes.
31:09I could do Shane and Michael.
31:10Yeah, you guys can figure that out.
31:11Okay, it's down to us.
31:13Take Wes.
31:14All right, so you're all set?
31:15Oh, yeah.
31:16First fitting starts now.
31:20All right, these are our finale models.
31:24Get fitting.
31:27Okay, kids.
31:29This one's going to be a fun one, okay?
31:31There we go.
31:32It's going to be so cool.
31:33Could be an off-the-shoulder moment.
31:35That's kind of fierce.
31:36Is it feeling it's going to get loose?
31:38Now it hits you in the right spot.
31:39I'm just going to put a pink scarf.
31:43In my head, I'm just thinking about all the things I have to get done.
31:46I'm feeling overwhelmed.
31:47Looks like that will at least fit in a suitcase.
31:50Yeah, there's a few that will.
31:51There's a few that will.
31:52All right.
31:54Does that feel okay under your ribs?
31:55Yeah.
31:56So right now, there's a giant Velcro panel in the back.
32:03Come on, little baby.
32:05You know, sometimes people don't take me seriously.
32:08No offense, but that is who I am, and that's what I'm running with,
32:11and that's who I'm going to be when this is done, too.
32:14Wow.
32:14We're ready.
32:15We're ready.
32:16I also don't care about what the others think.
32:19Love.
32:19I love it.
32:20I'm really relieved it fits you better than I thought it would.
32:23How's it going over here?
32:25The vision is coming alive.
32:26Has the collection changed?
32:27Have we grown in the last little while?
32:29I made this really kind of futuristic hip peignet.
32:33I managed to find another pair of those same football padding, and I covered them in lace.
32:37Do you feel like we're modern here?
32:39I feel like I've pushed beyond modern and have gotten almost more futuristic.
32:43Whoa.
32:43You're going to hate this.
32:45You're going to hate it.
32:45You're not doing it to this look.
32:48No.
32:49Why?
32:50You know who's going to be really excited to get these?
32:53Who?
32:53The bargain bin.
32:55Bargain bin?
32:58Bargain bin?
32:59This is not for your finale show.
33:02Oh, I mean it.
33:03I spent two full days individually coating all of these knee pads.
33:08What about the wrist ones?
33:10Don't need it.
33:11We don't need it.
33:12Less is more sometimes.
33:14Next.
33:15Talk me through this look.
33:16After you'd made me freak out, I tried to fix that corset and ended up making it terrible,
33:22so now I do have to make it again from scratch.
33:23So you're going to remake it in the next 48 hours?
33:25Yeah.
33:25Well, 48 hours to push it, all right?
33:28Okay.
33:29The t-shirt's cute.
33:31I got to put the work in this workroom.
33:33I have a full corset to create, tons of places that still need lace trim and embellishment,
33:38hats that I fully have to make.
33:40I have decorative elements that still have to go on, so it's going to be a hard couple days.
33:45The fact that I made this is crazy.
33:47The fact that I made any of this.
33:49I'm very tired.
33:50Hey, Charles.
33:51Hi, Ra.
33:53I'm truly in love with what's come out of me.
33:55Show me.
33:56This is the opening piece.
33:57Mm-hmm.
33:58Very you.
33:59What's next?
33:59I kind of wanted to build up upon this idea of, like, this sportwear tuxedo jacket.
34:05Is the bottom done done?
34:06It's done done.
34:07I'm on the fence about leaving a train.
34:09If you can hem it so it just kisses the ground, that will be great.
34:16Yeah.
34:17All right.
34:17Still some tweaks that need to happen.
34:22All right.
34:23Leland.
34:24Hey.
34:24How are you feeling?
34:25I feel incredible.
34:26Hey.
34:27I feel so good.
34:28I feel excited.
34:30I did take what you told me during our little hometown visit, that it can't all be bad.
34:34So should we talk about the dragon?
34:36It's very subtle, right?
34:37You barely see it.
34:38You abandoned subtle a long time ago.
34:41This is, this to me, is cool, camp, fun, costumey, and it's still fashion.
34:46I know that this took a lot of work.
34:48I just want you to pull inside yourself and say, how else can I make it feel more like haute couture?
34:55I need this to be archival.
34:57This needs to be an incredible work of art.
34:59Then baby, I got more work to do.
35:01You got more work to do.
35:02Okay, drop it like it's hot.
35:06Hmm.
35:06Okay, shall we start getting in a dress then?
35:14I'm probably at about 85, 90% done.
35:17I have to re-stone the tanks and I have to fix the drop crotch on these pants just to make sure they fit perfectly.
35:23What the hell did I do?
35:34I'm trying to remake the corset that goes with my printed t-shirt.
35:39In the panic of getting ready to come back to this finale, I cut the pieces of this corset incorrectly and I now have to start over.
35:48It is extra stressful when it's two days before the runway and the winner of this challenge gets 100k.
35:57I'm like, at this point, what's possible?
35:59I know.
35:59Like, physically, what is possible?
36:02Oh, God, there's no fast way to do this.
36:05There is so much I need to get done.
36:08That list is getting long and I'm one person.
36:11I'm at my absolute limit.
36:13I'm exhausted.
36:14And honestly, I thought this would be the easiest part.
36:17The hand sewing, I can't rush.
36:19No.
36:19So I want to get that out of the way first.
36:21You can't rush hand sewing.
36:26How did I get here?
36:27It is so baffling to me because I thought I had this under control.
36:31And right now, I'm going to admit, I don't.
36:34Tomorrow is runway day and I have four outfits to still alter.
36:47So I'm just trying my best to get ahead before the next models show up.
36:52Okay.
36:53It's day two in the workroom and the heat's on for sure.
36:56I just realized I made another mistake that I made when I was at home.
37:01I have sewn this corset incorrectly three or four times.
37:06I have to recut.
37:07I got to make sure my finishing is absolutely perfect because the runway is tomorrow.
37:13It should have been so much easier than it has been.
37:17Oh, my God.
37:17For the gray hoodie look, I still have to add this bias tape, which I have to hand sew on
37:23the very top, and then fix all of the drawstrings.
37:28It's so much work, and I'm just afraid that I'm not going to get it done.
37:32I just need to look at it being like, just finish it.
37:35Good morning, designers.
37:38Good morning.
37:39Time to start thinking about hair and makeup.
37:43L'Oreal Paris has sent you kits to help you get inspired to sketch out some ideas, and
37:48I'll be back a little later.
37:51Ooh, sweet goodies.
37:53I think with the makeup, I just want a heavier blush on the side to echo into the Chinese influence,
38:00and then a smoky eye for everyone across the board to really sell this grungy punk thing.
38:05I'm designing an entire universe.
38:07I need to make sure these looks are head-to-toe perfect, so I'm thinking bold brows and a
38:12beautiful, glossy lip.
38:14I really want to make a sculpted, contoured eye with a beautiful, smoky liner, bold brows
38:21that really go up and out as well.
38:23Having the perfect face really is an extension of the story.
38:28Oh, my gosh.
38:29Okay, I need to stop.
38:30There's work to be done.
38:31Love you, L'Oreal.
38:33All right, guess what?
38:35Models, come on in.
38:36Yeah!
38:37Yes!
38:38Yes!
38:39Yes!
38:42Hi, everybody.
38:44Welcome.
38:44Let's get you in these pieces.
38:46I know exactly what you'll be wearing.
38:48I know exactly what you'll be wearing.
38:50All right.
38:51Hey, how are you?
38:52Good, how are you?
38:53So, this is this awesome split-split outfit.
38:57I really wanted to do a half leather, half varsity jacket.
39:00This is great.
39:01The jacket feels wearable, shoppable.
39:03Totally, totally.
39:04All right, what's next?
39:05I've got this dress on.
39:06Chelsea's eating it up alive.
39:08All right.
39:09I'm so happy with this one.
39:10Is this your finale?
39:12It's between this and dragon.
39:14Why don't we line everyone up and give me an idea of what you're thinking the order's going
39:18to be.
39:18I think the three most important garments are leather dress, gold dragon, bagpipe.
39:26They're really distinct moments.
39:29Okay.
39:30If it were me, I would switch these two.
39:32Seeing them together, I do think.
39:34Yes.
39:35Honey, I think you're closing the show.
39:37Sorry, Yen.
39:37I love you.
39:39It's looking fun.
39:39It's looking great.
39:41I think the leather dress is going to be the finale look.
39:44That is a couture high fashion garment right there.
39:48How's it going over here?
39:50So, we've got this super great, like, striped wool coat.
39:53And we've got a Victorian BBL in the back.
39:56It feels historic and modern.
39:58All at the same time.
39:59It's perfect.
40:00Talk to me about these sailors.
40:03This top, which you called cheap the last time you saw it, now looks a little bit more
40:07expensive.
40:08At my hometown visit, Aurora pointed out some issues with the way I was using my lace.
40:13I went back in and redid a couple pieces to make sure that this stark bright white was
40:18nowhere to be found.
40:20Yeah.
40:20This is better.
40:22I want to see our tin girl.
40:24Saunter over.
40:25Don't collide.
40:25Making this skirt was really difficult.
40:31So, I hope all that pays off.
40:33I cut it all up and made it into, like, shingle-sized pieces.
40:36I made this little, like, raw edge leather belt.
40:38I think it's, like, interesting.
40:40But I don't know about this belt.
40:44Okay.
40:44What happens if we take it off?
40:47I mean, I think it feels more elevated.
40:50Because this just feels a little raw.
40:53You have to decide.
40:56Yeah.
40:57I'm gonna do some pinning stuff, but first I'm gonna get you out of your tin skirt.
41:01Tin skirt?
41:03Okay.
41:03Wow.
41:04Charles.
41:04Hi, Aurora.
41:05There's whole new silhouettes that were not here when I came over to your house.
41:09Yes.
41:10So, after our discussion about embracing pieces that are more wearable and relatable, I just
41:14wanted to take the best parts of the silhouettes, but make them modern, and then also add a little
41:20color.
41:20I was not expecting a full pink look.
41:24I don't love a lot of colors, but pink is one of the colors I really, really love.
41:29The pink blush look is so representative of the person I've become.
41:33There's a little hardness, but there's softness to this look.
41:36It's interesting because there's so much structure here, and this look is really fluid.
41:43This is probably the most fluid piece, apart from the sleeves of this one.
41:47Okay.
41:48I still have to put on the sleeves.
41:50But I can't just pin them in.
41:52I need to hand-sell them properly inside.
41:55So, is this, like, the big to-do list item?
41:59Wait, this is also the finale?
42:00This is the finale.
42:01This is the...
42:01Oh, I'm picking up.
42:04Where are the sleeves?
42:06One of them is here.
42:07Okay.
