Character Education that works – My feelings Children (K-5) learn about their feelings and how their feelings are unique. The class sings the song “My Feelings” and learns the lyrics. Afterwards they discuss their feelings, how feelings change, how to handle anger, etc… Children learn how important it is to talk with someone about your feelings when you are upset until you’re glad again. The lyrics are used to reinforce their understanding during real-life experiences in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, etc….. To develop students socially, ethically and academically an infusion of character development must be used in every aspect of school culture and curriculum. This will help students develop good character, which includes knowing, caring about and acting upon core ethical values such as respect, responsibility, honesty, fairness and compassion.
