Jasmine never really considered herself the “Mean Girl” other people described her as. She was just the kind of person who knew how to get shit done her way. Living in NYC was not easy, and climbing her way up the corporate ladder at her finance job was the kind of thing that took grit, determination, and a little bit of ruthlessness.
She never could take a break either. Jasmine found herself taking a call discussing sales plans as she simultaneously ate Bahn Mi, the contents of the sandwich just barely staying together as she yelled through the phone on a park bench.
“Are you kidding me? That’s the kind of thing you tell me about two days ago, not today! Clients don’t just fall out of the sky nowadays Brad!” Jasmine kept the conversation fast paced, and yet still felt no closer to completing the issue. She came out to Squirrel Park during her lunch breaks usually to take a break, so it sucked when she had to talk to these lower level idiots, and it sucked when her sandwich began to slip, and it sucked when a hungry squirrel began to climb up the bench.
“Shit. Well, it sounds like I need to talk to them. As soon as possible. Schedule dinner for me with them tonight. Yes, i’ll fucking be able to make it.” The squirrel stepped carefully up next to the woman, and sniffed at the delicious, barely eaten sandwich. “Just make the plans, and don’t say anything else to them, ok?” The sandwich fell onto the wood of the bench seat, and the squirrel launched into action, lunching on the bread. “Get away!” Jasmine shooed with aggressive force, managing to land a pretty aggressive blow on the squirrel, knocking it back. It scrambled up again, however, and managed to land a clean bite on Jasmine’s right hand as she hung up the phone and attempted to regrab the sandwich.
“Shit! Ouch!” Jasmine shooed the squirrel for real this time, swatting it away with a piece of cilantro in its mouth. She examined her hand that gripped the sad sandwich, revealing a red bite mark on the side of her hand. Some break this was turning out to be.
She returned back to the office, sharing death stares with everyone who greeted her back. Jasmine sat herself with as much weight as she could muster in her corner office and began chugging away at unreplied emails. Maybe the work was too overpowering, or maybe she was just in a rotten mood, or maybe she was just worried about this dinner meeting tonight, but she was finding it harder to focus on her work. Glances out the window at squirrel park would turn into daydreams, quickly broken out of, but persistent nonetheless. He fingers began to scratch at the keyboard keys, letting out light scraping noises as her nails sharpened against the plastic.
At one point, as she was reading a lengthy document, Jasmine idly grabbed a pen from her desk, and put it between her teeth. As she chewed and read, her front teeth grew longer, while other teeth pushed off to the back. Her lips closed around the abused pen, liting in the center and falling downwards on her face elsewhere. ‘God, what an annoying document. Wish I was… out there…’ Jasmine stared out at Squirrel park, letting passing fantasies of running around in the fields, climbing trees, and looking for nuts become stuck in her imagination. Her face lit up the first smile she had all day, as a soft covering of fur rose up her arms, tickling her skin, but making her all the more ready for her time in the park after this… wait, didn’t she have something after this?
She looked at the time– 6:21 “Shit!” She had her dinner scheduled in 9 minutes! The park would have to wait until later. She GRabbed her briefcase and scrambled out of the building, passing by shocked and confused faces, but returning answers to none of them. Her face now looked like that of a rodent, her pert nose now pushed into a small dark snout; her cheeks slightly puffed outwards, and covered themselves with a tracing of fur as well.
Although it wasn’t entirely necessary, Jasmine cut through Squirrel Park to get to the restaurant. In the rush of finally feeling that fresh nature feeling around her, and the obvious rush of lateness, she barely noticed the tight strain on her draping white skirt. All she could think about was how good it felt to be running through the park, the sights and sounds of the natural world all around her… in fact… she could go much faster if she…
Jasmine, slowly, carefully, lowered herself onto her front paws, testingly pressing them against the soft grass that felt sooo good to finally touch like this. Without a second thought, she dashed in the right direction, her back legs already cracking and shifting into the correct posture, to aid her in her journey across the blades. Her fingers puffed up, and her claws defined themselves even more. A pressure continued to bellow up against her skirt fabric, but none of that mattered… she was almost to… where? Which tree was she supposed to go to? No– she had dinner, with human clients!
She shook her head out as she stood human-ly on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. Dirt covered knees hidden well under her lengthy skirt that continued to puff up in the back against a furry clump.
She managed to shoot dirty looks at anyone who questioned her, as she sat at a table reserved for her and two others. She was the first one here, and had time to get comfortable, despite an annoying something pressing against the seatback. She ordered a wine… how late were these two? She wanted to get back to her tree, so she could prepare tomorrow’s meal, and sleep high above the rest of it all. But god, at least this wine is enjoyable.
She took a big sip, and then another, trying to ignore the growing pressure that was threatening to disrobe her then and there. What was it, exactly? She stressed her mind on human thoughts of what it could be as she took another gulp of wine… before settling on the correct, squirrely solution! It was her tail! Why not let it out?
Her tailbone bulged out further with an explosive growth as she came to the conclusion, bursting out from above her waistline, billowing backward, almost knocking her out of her seat as she nearly dropped her glass! Her tail was magnificent, the kind of thing you couldn’t forget. She barely registered all of the other patrons starting at her, but she didn’t care. As far as Jasmine was concerned, she was finally living the good life.
“Oh, you’re here! Sit down, let’s get this over with. Today was nuts.”
