What happens when a dark romance reader becomes the fmc in her very own dark why choose?
Ezra Nothing has ever been easy for us. We lost our families and what memories we do have of them, we wish we didn't. We were quick to be cast as outcasts after we were put in foster care. No one looked at us. Talked to us. Cared about us. Our only goal was to grow up and get out. Away from the shadows that haunted us.
Until her. Berlyn.
It took us years to get here, but now? We have power, money, and a reputation. We've watched her, read the romance books she reads, learned everything about her.
DNF’ed at 46%. The dedication says this is a love letter to dark romance readers but it has no teeth! No teeth, no tension, no chemistry! Also no fmc w/ mmc smut until I’m told about 76% in (thank you bookish friend from saving me from trying to hold out for it). It is sooooo slow. And not in the slow burn kind of way, because there is no burn. There’s no banter, no flirting, barely any dialogue between the fmc & mmcs at all. There is more relationship descriptors for the female best friend and the fmc. Despite the chapters being (or at least feeling) overly long with the majority of that time spent in the mcs heads I have no sense about who these characters are. They’re all completely shapeless, except maybe the bff Summer.
It’s entirely too soft - not fluffy, because fluffy still has shape, drive, forward momentum. No this is soft in both plot and character development - like the texture of yogurt: one noted and without shape. There really isn’t even much humor going on - or at least nothing that’s actually funny or comical. The description said it’s “tongue in cheek” but I’m not getting any of that.
I think maybe this would’ve worked as a novella. I’m DNF’ing on page 201 (couldn’t even finish the chapter!) and if the story had gotten to the point by now and was wrapping up, it would probably be worth 3 stars. But with more than half the story still to go I am tapping out.
I preordered this so I really wanted to like it. Wish I had waited for it on KU.
I am so grateful to have received an ARC of this story! it was hard not to fall in love with all of the characters. Such a fun and steamy read! Here's to hoping Summer gets her own dark romance fantasies fulfilled in a future book!
Obsessed, stalkish men who do anything for their girl!
About 4.5 stars!
Ezra, Jude, and West can remember the exact moment their obsession began with sweet, innocent Berlyn. With her nose in her dark romance novel, she bumped into West in high school, and after hearing her ramble her apology, it was love (or at least obsession) at first sight for them. The three guys had plans for after they graduated high school, but after this encounter, they knew their plans had to completely change to include her.
Having a stalker originally freaked Berlyn out (rightfully so!). She had been through some trauma when she was younger, and the idea of her constantly being under surveillance terrified her. However, as time went on, she started having mixed feelings. They clearly weren't hurting her. They were even doing her chores around the house while she slept! Despite never seeing them while awake, something about them felt familiar, too. Comforting. Kind of like her dark romance books.
Yeah, she was a bit off her rocker, and she knew it, too.
When things seem to finally be going well, her past comes and catches up to her. Will her stalkers be able to protect her?
I like that Berlyn isn't exactly a strong, taking names kind of FMC, but also isn't a damsel in distress. Her responses to the things going on are very normal for real life, for the most part. I also love her best friend, Summer. She is the friend I am to be! Don't fall apart or shut down, take the bull by the horns, and laugh at things you can't control. Better laugh than curl up and cry! (Yes, they both clearly have trauma responses. It's another reason laughter is their go-to.)
I enjoyed this book. It was a pretty good palate cleanser. I also love that we see some characters from Steel Roses in this book! Great crossover!
I was gifted an ARC copy of this book. I hated each time that I had to put this book down to be a responsible and productive member of society. Absolutely read the trigger warnings on this one before delving in. The only thing I had trouble wrapping my head around was the brothers who were not actually brothers. I had to keep reminding myself that there wasnt actually a family relation with them. I find that in RH tropes you usually get one MMC that is kind of a jerk to the FMC at times or tries to fight his attraction/pull to her. I found it very refreshing that all 3 men were obsessed and kind to Berlyn from the start.
I had to push through this book to the end. I’ll give it a 4 star since I don’t want the author to chew me out. It says why choose, funny, rom com, dark romance. There wasn't that much why choosing until the very end and I was disappointed, I love why choose romances but this wasn’t it for me. It wasn't really that funny as well, rom com yes but dark romance no. There were some sweet, cute, fun moments with a little dark sprinkled on top but nothing more.
Foster brothers Ezra, Weston, and Jude all fall for the same girl in high school. Berlyn is quiet and one of the only people to show the guys kindness. When they discover her love for dark romance, they come up with a plan to make her fall for them. Basically, they become the perfect real-life book boyfriends. Berlyn is suddenly living her dark romance fantasy at the same time she is getting closer to the boys she knew from high school. She can't deny the thrill she gets from these masked stalkers taking care of her, especially to her best friend, but her past makes her hesitant to embrace the fantasy. She worries that if something feels too good to be true, then it is.
Berlyn was timid, uncareful, just not the FMC for me. Summer is the best friend everyone needs. She's a soul-sister, ready for battle type of women. She’s the guy’s cheerleader! More importantly, she is the unbreakable bedrock for Berlyn, providing support and strength through every piece of stress and trauma, past and present. She's the steady hand in the storm. WEST stole the show! Ezra and Jude were good in this as well but I’m here for West. He was the beautifully broken beast who just needed his girl to smooth out those jagged, dangerous edges. Their date? Perfection.
I needed a little more from the book. More background on the guys and the females. I needed one on one with Berlyn and Erza and Jude. Needed more sex scenes and touching her while she sleeps, between the guys, the woods in the park, in her bed. I’ll say the stalking was okay, the doing her chores was a good part. I didn’t like the liver in the jar or the breaking in and touching her while she slept.
Out of all of this, I honestly expected the book to be a better why choose romance. Not long chapters and little plot and character development. I don’t think I’ll come back to read this again.
Strangely lighthearted dark romance why choose rom com that dealt with some pretty heavy topics and triggers without feeling too heavy. Definitely fun for a Halloween read!
I did enjoy reading this one but at times the pacing felt a little slow. When I heard it was a why choose stalker romance I think I was expecting a little more spice? But it’s kind of a slow burn? The men don’t sleep with the heroine until around 75% in, so know that going in. If I would’ve known that I think it would have helped me set my expectations.
Earnestly the heroine’s best friend was my favorite part and I sincerely hope she gets her own book in the future. Some of the men trying to wingman the best friend was hilarious. I also liked how present the best friend was in the heroine’s life? I don’t think that’s all that common but I liked how involved she was.
Fave Quote: “There’s no peace in this world for a girl like me. Too soft, too alone, too scared, too stupid to ever fight back. Too unworthy, too damaged, too broken to ever be saved.”
I was so excited for this was a dark, why-choose romcom! It sounded perfect for Halloween. Fall For Us was fun, cute, sweet, with some dark themes sprinkled in that could make me laugh or cry depending on the scene. It was everything I expected and more. I could not stop smiling while reading it.

RUNNNNN and grab this one now!! I loved this book. It checked all the boxes for me. And man what a rollercoaster...laughing one minute, then hot & bothered, then just feeling so heartbroken for a character. It was a wild ride, but so enjoyable.
I loved all the MMCs & they each brought their own reasons why, but I definitely have a soft spot for Weston 🥹❤️ Also I loved Berlyn's BFF so much that in hoping she gets get own book!!!
Definitely a fun, spicy Halloween read! 🖤
⚠️ Please check the trigger warnings ⚠️
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to be an eARC reader 🫶 This is a review of my honest opinion.
I vividly remember the Steel Roses series by this author, so naturally I was interested to see how this dark romance for dark romance readers turned out. As engaging as the premise is, I did struggle quite a bit with the story. I could not relate to any of the characters and frankly, there is not much happening here. Decided not to push myself further as I do not think that things would pick up if I were to continue. I am glad that other readers enjoyed the story, but sadly this story just does not click with me.
So sooo so good! Samantha Bee’s already one of my automatic read authors so I knew this was gonna be a hit. I loved everyone’s dynamic together and that it was dark but still had a romcom feel when it was needed. Summer was the best side character I’ve read in a long time and I loveeee love that we got to see the Steel Roses again for a little bit, I miss them ❤️ I binged this in a day and I’m already planning a reread in the future
Some things to know about this book before going into it it’s not plot heavy. Yes there’s trigger warnings in the beginning, but you don’t really read that much into it. If you read her bleeding rose series then you know that some of the trauma in this book is similar to Scarlett‘s in that, but it’s not heavily detailed nor is it really talked about much except for maybe two or three scenes throughout the whole book.
You don’t really get much background information on all of the guys except for Weston. And our main FMC doesn’t really have a lot of information on her or her best friend either.
So if you want something plot, heavy or descriptive and regards to characters, this is not the book for you
I will say the premise of it was intriguing, which is why I read it and I absolutely loved her other series that I’ve read. It was a cute fun read, but wasn’t really something. I’d probably read again. It’s more of a pallet cleanser for me.
It was a good book. Just not something I’d pick up again. The MM in it is very minimal and the spice is like a three.
“Why have one when you can have three?” Possibly my favourite “why choose” read of the year! That was unbelievably good!
FMC is actually smart in “real life situations”, but also a spicy book lover girl like the rest of us haha MMCs are not sleeping around, they all waited for her, Eeekkk, loved that!
Prepare for the Ride: Your Next Dark Romance Obsession is Here!
Stop what you're doing and pre-order/download this book immediately! I was singing its praises before the final page—this isn't just a book; it's a Dark Romance event. What happens when a girl who lives for the villains finally gets her hands on them? You get a scorching, fated attraction that was years in the making and three alpha-male heroes who were obsessed since high school. They've spent that time honing themselves, becoming the perfect, unstoppable force for the woman they crave. They never. give. up. And let me tell you, West is the one who stole the show for me. He was the beautifully broken beast who just needed his girl to smooth out those jagged, dangerous edges. Their date? Perfection. I'm adding it to my personal Dream Date Manifesto. You'll want your own guy to take notes. The Supporting Cast We All Need While the heroes are dominating the pages, we need to talk about Summer. Every woman needs a best friend, a soul-sister, and a battle-ready hype-woman like her. She isn't just on board with the guys—she's their biggest cheerleader! More importantly, she is the unbreakable bedrock for Brelyn, providing support and strength through every piece of stress and trauma, past and present. She's the steady hand in the storm. The Scene That Cemented Perfection And finally, you know I can't leave out the iconic pizza scene! Girl, yes! That's not just food; that's a vibe. Seriously, "Pepperoni with jalapeños and pineapple"—it's the perfectly imperfect combination that somehow just works. Just like this book. Go. Read. Now! You deserve this kind of glorious chaos.

I guess it’s not a surprise I’m attracted to crazy when I would describe my best friend’s animal form as a feral raccoon.
Ezra, West, and Jude are three broken orphans who've grown up together as brothers and have also found a deep love with one another. They spend the rest of their youth with West's uncle, who happens to operate in gray areas. In high school one day, Berlyn bumps into West, apologizes and after some awkward bumbling l, moves along with her day. Unbeknownst to her, the guys are instantly obsessed and plan their entire lives around her. Ezra goes to the same college, arranges to have classes with her and bumps into her around campus. Jude works as a mechanic and ends up taking care of her car and other fixit bits in her life. West, the super quiet one, becomes a tattoo artist and just admires her from afar. And admire her, he does. They do. They observe her every move, reading the same books, and watching her on the dozens of cameras they have hidden in her house. They know just about everything about her. They even sneak in at night sometimes just to cuddle with her. They finance all this through learning the ropes of the crime world from Cole. Finally, in her and Ezra's senior year of college, they decide she's ready to learn about their plan to make her fall in love with them. Instead of just cuddling her at night, they start doing chores around the house - doing the dishes, folding her laundry. She thinks she's losing her mind, or sleep cleaning maybe? Slowly they ramp things up, leaving her notes, but never revealing who they are. They also start hanging out with her just as themselves, as friends. As the month of October goes on, they escalate on both fronts until she's swept up in a lust frenzy and pieces together that her "stalkers" are the guys. They finally get together just as her evil father reappears in her life. And just like her evil professor, they make a plan to deal with her father as well. But maybe she's grown strong enough to deal with him herself? 5/5 spicy
I found Samantha through her hockey romances last year, but hadn't read any of her darker stuff before this. As a huge why choose reader who loves to lean into the spooky reads at this time of year, I jumped on the chance to read this one and was not disappointed!
MMMF (though minimal MM spicy scenes) Forbidden romance (foster brothers) Stalkers Masked men Touch her and die (literally)
As stated in the forward, this is a dark romcom that leans into the popular themes and tropes that dark romance readers joke and dream about. Though there are some heavier topics mentioned, they don't come up all too often, with no big plot but rather a focus on the relationship between the guys and Berlyn with everything else being in the peripheral.
Berlyn was such a relatable FMC (which was the point in the book, for us readers to see ourselves in it); she had past trauma that she was working hard to move past, a huge lover of dark romance, and both intrigued and scared by the idea of being stalked. I loved seeing her balance wanting to stay safe and do the right thing with leaning into the obsession and ultimately love that the guys brought.
As for the guys, you have three foster brothers (West, the quiet artist; Jude, the go-with-the-flow jokester; and Ezra, the smart leader of the group) who have been obsessed with Berlyn since high school and have done a whole lot of shit to make her theirs. They did have distinct personalities which was good as thats something some why chooses lack, though we didn't get much background on Jude and Ezra, only West. They all worked in their own ways, but ultimately united and ready to do what they felt was needed, from stalking to gifts to somno (noting this is noncon/dubcon as it started before Berlyn was aware, but she never had an issue with it).
If you're a dark romance reader looking for a fun and spicy spooky season read, this is for you.
This is the first book I have read from Samantha Bee. I would give it a solid 4 stars after you get through the first few chapters. It had all my favorite tropes/ triggers. Obsessed MMCs, Stalking, Masked Men, Somno, MMFM, foster brothers. Great light darkish romance to read when you need a break from all the Dark Dark romance books. Story started out a bit cringy or ...... idk odd but eventually it picked up and worked although there were a lot of grammar errors. It was a bit unbelievable that these 3 rough and tough guys would make this long drawn out plan and wait for this girl. Throughout the book plot and character relationships worked and become more intriguing the more I read. The way the guys became obsessed with a girl they run into, literally, in high school and to get her attention and to get her to fall in love with them they play out her favorite fantasies from her books. It was fast paced enough and had enough going on that it kept things interesting and kept you wanting to know what was going to happen next. All of the men were so sweet, not your typical jerk was one of the guys in a RH is usually so mean to the FMC. It’s a big plus when the MMCs are described as OTT and SO actually prove it and back it up killing for the FMC. I really loved West and I started to really enjoy the banter between Jude and Summer. Authors who can have a great friendship and banter between a male and female character without it turning into a relationship are able to add that perfect extra to stories that I love. I actually really hope there is another book after this for Summer and Cole. Samantha Bee
The story begins in highs school….. it’s only the first chapter ladies chill. Anyways , it starts with the three boys who are foster brothers talking and we get a glimpse that they’re a more than sibling into their relationship. Wes accidentally get tripped by Berlyn and she is the most awkward girl ever and blabs tons when she is nervous, the obsession begins! They boys get so obsessed that for 4 years after that encounter they do everything, and I mean everything within their power to involve themselves in her life. They bought the house she rents, they put multiple cameras in all her house (with audio) and basically she’s their favorite show. Berlyn has an obsession with Dark romance books so this boys decide they’re in a private bookclub with her which she has no idea of. They read whatever book she’s reading and get to experience “happy hour” if you know what I mean when she reads and gets turned on. They decide that it’s time for her to realize they love her and decide break into her house and do all the chores she hates and leave little clues so she can find out she has a stalker, just like the books she loves! They think it’s gonna be romantic to follow those books she adores and declare they’re undying love that way. Summer as any bff has a hunch that this hot tatted bad boys who fluster and devour her bff with their eyes are her stalkers but Berlyn is blind, and the boys are so good they’re not obvios that it’s them. During the book we see the love between the three and their devotion to her. There’s some secrets that come out of their childhood and some MAJOR trauma she also endured but I’m not spoiling it for you girls!! I totally recommend this book!
Tropes: 👻why choose (MMMF) 👻foster brothers 👻they stalk her 👻dark romance reader living out her books 👻a hint of romantic suspense 👻somnophilia 👻no 3rd act breakup
okay, but this was such a fun one! i was pretty obsessed with dedication and will that jude, weston, and ezra had to make sure that berlyn finally noticed them and knew that it was always supposed to be the four of them together. i mean, having precariously placed cameras all over your house, reading all the same dark romance books that you read to make sure that they know what fantasies to bring to life, can you not help but swoon? i love berlyn, but she kinda a b!mbo, but like in the absolute BEST way possible. haha.
the intentionality that they had and all the "phases" in their project to get to try to help berlyn get to the point of figuring it all out...absolutely silly goose, or should i say rabbit 😏. i wish there was a little more spice and a little less of a slow burn, but the journey to get there was honestly the best part of the ride in itself. dark rom com always seem like an oxymoron, but the banter between these characters and the rest of the cast kept me going and laughing throughout the whole story.
this is a perfect read this halloween if you love dark romance and want to live vicariously through a character living out her own dark romance story. thank you to samantha for the eARC!
🐍 This is truly the perfect read for this spooky season. 5 stars easy.
It was everything I could have asked for in a dark romantic comedy book. Berlyn is hilarious without even trying and her boys just love her so much she could do no wrong in their eyes. I love how much the boys love each other too, it seems like their love for each other is so simple and easy like it was just meant to be.
I NEEEEDDDDDD to know more about Summer and Cole. I am also super excited to go back and read about Scar and her boys cause damn are they ever intriguing in this book.
🥀 Holy shit this book was everything I needed it to be and more!
I don’t even have the words for how much I loved it! Honestly I feel like I could channel my inner Berlyn and just word vomit because I have so much to say! For one, Berlyn is officially one of my favourite FMC’s of all time, she is iconic! Then there’s Ezra, West, and Jude who I love just as much, each of them being the perfect book boyfriend in different ways. This book had me giggling and kicking my feet and also full blown cackling while also tugging on my heartstrings. Omg and Berlyn’s best friend Summer is definitely one of my favourite characters ever!! And how could I forget they built her a library!!!
We Didn’t Fall—We Dove Headfirst Into the Obsession.
We met Samantha Bee at a con in 2024 and got hit with pure serotonin. Taylor Swift-coded booth. Infectious energy. Instant follow. And then we opened Fall For Us—and lost our damn minds.
We don’t usually reach for Halloween-themed romances, but this one? We devoured it like candy corn on espresso. Fall For Us is a dark, funny, deliciously unhinged why-choose with just the right amount of murder, spice, and WTF-ery to keep you hooked from page one.
Berlyn is a dark romance reader—and our new best friend. Her three obsessed stalkers (yes, three) have been planning her seduction for years. They’ve read her favorite books. Tabbed the scenes. Installed cameras. Done her chores. Built her a freaking library. And honestly? We swooned. Every “rabbit,” every gift, every moment of chaotic devotion—it just worked.
There’s real tenderness beneath the twisted humor. These characters are messy, obsessive, soft in all the wrong ways—and perfect for each other. Also: the surprise Steel Roses appearance? 10/10 serotonin spike.
Our only note? Uncle Cole better be next. That man is hiding something sinister and sexy, and we want to read all of it.
🖤 Dark romcom meets psychotic fairy tale. No third-act breakup. All in.
Fall For Us took me by surprise. I went in expecting a typical “why choose” dark romance, but Samantha Bee gave it more heart and depth than I anticipated. The story has that perfect mix of fantasy and tension... a girl who reads dark romance suddenly finding herself living one. It’s messy, intense, and addictive in the best way.
Ezra, Weston, and Jude each bring something different to the table, and together they make the story feel chaotic but compelling. West absolutely stole the show for me.. broken, broody, and so easy to root for. Berlyn wasn’t always my favorite FMC, but she grew on me, and I appreciated how her trauma and hesitation felt real instead of just convenient plot points. Summer was also a standout. She’s the kind of friend every main character needs... loyal, steady, and strong.
There were moments I wanted a little more depth and connection, especially between Berlyn and the guys, but overall the pacing and tension kept me hooked. It was dark, playful, and emotionally charged without going overboard.
4 stars... addictive, dramatic, and full of heat with just enough heart to keep me turning the pages. I’ll definitely be watching for more from Samantha Bee.
I loved this book so so much! Not one, not two, but THREE masked golden retriever stalkers? And they’ll break into my house to do chores and fix things? Sign me up!
I loved Berlyn as an FMC. The only thing that stressed me out is her stubborn denial that the guys were her stalkers. I loved her inner turmoil whenever her friend brought it up.
Berlyn is a lucky girl. If I had Weston, Jude, and Ezra all devoted to me I’d be thrilled. They do her chores, fix things, take care of people that hurt her. What else could a girl ask for?
Them breaking into her kindle account so they can read the same books she reads was a detail that I loved so much. I thought it was so funny when later on in the book she says something along the lines of good things her stalker can’t see her kindle library.
I liked all of the guys but Weston is my personal favorite. The way he’s quiet and sweet but also bossy in the bedroom is the perfect balance. And I liked how he was always so concerned with how Berlyn would react to their gifts and never wanted to scare her.
This book was absolutely hilarious, such a fun read. Definitely one of my favorite books I read for spooky season.
This should have been better than it was. There was such potential in the story and it just fell flat for me. I found myself not wanting to pick it up and forcing myself to pay attention. The characters were boring and had no real depth to them. The FMC was just annoying with no real personality, the only personality in this book was Summer the best friend.
I get it was supposed to be a tongue in cheek bit of fun and that’s why I gave it 3 ⭐️ not 2 but it felt too long. The feelings felt forced, again I get it’s supposed to be a play on she’s mine but the way they fell in love with no real communication just didn’t do it for me. I also expected way more spice, the spice was good but it took too long to get there and let’s be honest with a book like this that’s what the reader is coming for. I wish this had more personality, fun and was just 100 pages less. This book also lacked editing, there were so many mistakes within the text every few pages I’d have to reread to understand what was meant rather than what was written. It fit the Halloween brief that I wanted to read but it could have been so much better.
If you love dark romcoms, why choose, an FMC who reads dark romances and the MMCs stalking her and reading her favourite books to learn what she likes, them breaking into her house and doing her chores for her, leaving her gifts and notes, and them all giving her different nicknames, then you should definitely read this one!
Fall for Us takes place around Halloween time, and we see Berlyn and the guys enjoying some fun fall and Halloween-themed activities, such as visiting a haunted house, decorating her house, and carving pumpkins. And if that doesn’t convince you, there is also the fact that Ezra, Jude, and Weston have been obsessed with and stalking Berlyn for years, restructuring all their plans to make her the centre of them, even building her a library in their house with all of her favourite books, that they tabbed to keep track of all of her favourite scenes and positions they want to try with her😏.
I truly loved Berlyn and her guys so much, the dynamics between the guys (oh and they have their own relationships going on with each other😏), the way the guys each interacts with Berlyn, and also how they always integrate Berlyn‘s bestie to make her feel more comfortable (and also because Summer is team why choose stalkers since day one😂)♥️
4.5⭐️ ohhh this was fun. I'd say if you enjoyed Lights Out, you'd probably enjoy this one. it's got that fun side with the stalking...but does have a bit darker situations and past. not to mention there's not just one stalker, there's 3 of them. 😏 nonetheless, I enjoyed it. I could have finished this in a day...maybe 2 if life didn't keep me busy. 😅 the spice though....the build up to it. loved Jude, West, and Ezra are just slightly obsessed with Berlyn. keeping eyes on her...learning everything she loves and does....like tracking what books she reads on her kindle.....and purchasing said books to read themselves even creating a huge library with them 🫠 Oops slight spoiler. sorry. but yea these 3 are 🥵 and a bit unhinged. the shocking truth of Berlyns past though, heartbreaking. 😭 and the guys see red and NEED revenge. I just loved these 4 together. it was a lot. in the best ways. the ending...with the tattoo. 🥹 beautiful.
as I said, it's a mixture of fun, spicy, intense, and traumatic. the perfect dark romcom.
If you are looking for a more lighthearted read for this Halloween season (or outside of the season) then this is for you! I absolutely adored these characters. It wasn’t a heavy read (although there are some dark triggering things in the story) overall it is more fun. Stalker trope vibes, masked men, b&e, somno, with a side of unaliving.
For me the spice was on point and the men were lovable psychos. The main FMC and her best friend were hilarious and probably 2 of my favorite characters. I hope we get to see a story with her friend. I loved the b&e scenes as well as the gifts and clues they leave for the fmc. Plus the fact that they are absolutely gone for her to the point of reading the same books as her (be still my heart)
I also loved that we got a drop in from other characters I love in the authors books. I love when we get those little sneak peeks into their lives.
All in all this was a 5 star romcom read for me and I would definitely read it again
