To all parents checking the contents of this book before purchasing, be assured that you will not find a single occult or Satanic chant, reversed prayer, incantation, spell, curse, recipes, potions, charms, talismans, drawing or photo of any Satanic emblem, symbol or diagram in this book. This biography is extremely teenage-friendly and was re-written three times for that specific purpose. It was decided from the outset to use a very easy style of writing, yet removing nothing from the heart wrenching and dramatic true life story you hold in your hands right now. No Christian teenager or young adult’s life is at risk reading this biography; in fact, they will be drawn much closer to God. Our constant prayer is that, should any unbeliever pick up this book and read it to the end, they will find Christ first and foremost. Phil Botha received his instructions from the Lord, who laid down certain rules for him when sharing his testimony in thousands of churches across this country. Those rules and wishes were respected and strictly adhered to before publishing his biography. No evil spirit, spirit-guide or demon’s personal name (that must be spoken articulately when requesting their appearance) is given. Instead Phil used pseudonyms to protect bored youngsters from foolishly attempting to conjure up a demon by their given name. Jesus Christ must receive all the honour, praise and glory for this book, from cover to cover, and we have purposely refrained from using the terms Satan and the devil. Throughout this biography he shall be known as he was known in scripture, simply “the enemy”. Deceived by a high school teacher who contacted a departed loved one and blatantly lied to by a church minister concerning his salvation Phil starts his first job at a laboratory. He is invited to a different church where no judgement is drawn and no mention of hell or sin is ever preached. Three weeks after his meaningless Christian confirmation this embittered and confused teenager is initiated into the priesthood of Satanism in central Pietermaritzburg. For the next seventeen long and lonely years he is imprisoned in the most secretive and untraceable organisation in the world. This biography will shock, amaze and bless you and at times will even leave you speechless. Nothing was added to make the enemy a fraction more evil than he already is, and no supernatural Hollywood-scripts have been added amongst the pages of this book for the sake of sensation. This biography was directed by the Holy Spirit and is centred on Christ. It is our secondary goal and prayer that Phil’s biography will be read by every teacher, lecturer, pastor, policeman, magistrate, parent and teenager living in South Africa today. Due to the South African courts having such a huge lack of knowledge on and proof of Satanism, and basing everything on the non-existent evidence of South Africa’s ‘expert on occult crimes’, the courts battle with differentiating between Satanism and bored, ruthless and sadistic teenagers. No one suddenly wakes up one morning and decides, “I want to become a Satanist.” Phil Botha was chosen by the spirits governing the Movement before the age of ten and they began to lure and deceive him using apparitions, teachers and ministers.
Brilliant book, I couldn’t put it down. I would recommend this book for all to read. I loved the way he had an encounter with the LORD JESUS and asked HIM about HIS beard :) the seen to hell also made a great impact on me. Thank you for this book.
Having dealt directly with the author of this book, "Magus Thor’rauna High Priest of Satan in South Africa: Phil Botha receives Christ as Lord!" by Francis B. while I was doing research into Satanism during 2013, I again encountered this book online by chance in March 2023 - and decided to leave a review.
The author, Francis B. - a nom de plume, obviously - is some sort of evangelical South African writer who has self-published at least two titles: "Doctrines of Devils" - and this book in English and Afrikaans. As unlikely as it seems, the author did not put this thing together as a parody or satirical comedy, but remained insistent throughout our correspondence that they were deadly serious about this story being based on the personal memoirs of Phil Botha, who was known to them personally, and therefore FACTUAL.
Phil Botha’s story - ostensibly a serious biography of a self-proclaimed "ex-Satanist" from Durban, whose fantasies about being some sort of "High Priest for Satan" - made South African tabloid news headlines, and ended up being picked up by infamous "occult cop" Kobus Jonker to be used as "proof" of his crackpot conspiracy theories that a vast underground Satanic cabal was at work in the country, and helped spark off South Africa's own "Satanic Panic" that made the late 1980s and 90s far more interesting than they really had to be.
Presented as ostensibly a true story, the document is laced with major inconsistencies, exaggerations, errors and flaws in its claims about Satanism which reveal that neither he (nor the biographer) knew enough about Satanism to ever qualify as a “High Priest” in Satanism, or even to masquerade as a novice. Not only that, but the author (and Phil Botha) set about connecting and conflating various religions, philosophies and social practices and identities with "Satanism", so that essentially nothing is "not Satanic" in some way, shape or form - except for evangelicalist Christianity, of course.
What sort of bizarre claims does the author make about Phil Botha's supposed ascent into Satanist hierarchy? Well, for one, it is claimed that Botha used to “teleport” all over the planet (while he was a Satanist of course, so presumably they took away his teleportation permit when he got “saved”). He was also (like all senior Satanic high priests, apparently) able to time travel - and to fly down from tall buildings and land softly without going 'splat!' - just like Superman. Yet, oddly enough, despite the existence of contemporaneous photographic, video, filming or recording equipment, there are NO recordings of such events. Not even so much as two photos of Phil Botha standing beside two landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower or the Great Wall of China minutes apart while holding an alarm clock or calendar – or even at the same moment, seeing as he also claimed he had the ability to time travel! There are so many holes in the story, you could fly a jumbo-jet through them sideways.
According to Francis B.'s biographical account of Phil Botha's annecdotes, Witches, Satanists, Freemasons and professional magicians are buried alive as part of their initiation ceremony! Really? Why then, have none of them received that memo? In the book, Botha is said to have been critical of Anton LaVey because he couldn't levitate!
Anton LaVey was not known for his levitation or astral projecting skills - LaVey was an Atheistic Satanist and founder of the Church of Satan, who presided over numerous rituals and ceremonies in his capacity as High Priest of the Church of Satan. LaVeyan Satanists are atheistic and do not have a belief in deities or magic other than as a ritual means to focus on goal-fulfillment. In fact, they entirely reject the concept of the supernatural or paranormal, and ascribe "spiritual experiences" to pshycology and medical or real-world material and scientific explanations. Yet Botha (via Francis B.) suggests that in order for someone to qualify as a High Priest of Satan, they should prove that they can levitate or astral project!
“Francis B”, the person managing Botha’s legacy of tall tales actually wrote to Peter H. Gilmore, the present head of the Church of Satan in the USA, asking questions while posing as Phil Botha, also using “Magus” in his email address – which apparently (according to Botha) all Satanists would fear and acknowledge – but Gilmore didn’t, so he concludes that “Gilmore is fake” - and so, naturally, is the Church of Satan!
Setting up your victims by claiming in advance that those who don’t recognize your fancy made-up titles are “fakers”, is called "foreshadowing" and is the hallmark of all scam artists.
Botha - and his biographer - create the impression that all Satanists everywhere fall under one central hierarchy, and all believing in the same brand of Satanism, when in truth there is no such thing. As it turns out, there are many different types and groups of Satanism around the world – and as a matter of fact they are wholly independent of each other, and some even view each other in an adversarial light.
This story strikes me more as a fairly amusing piece of totally disingenuous 1970’s fantasy than a serious recollection, and probably one fueled by LSD. But that's all it is. Fantasy. To present it as incontrovertible fact - as the agent and promoter of this work has done, and vehemently insists it is - is just patently ridiculous. Surely not even the most fanatical Christian believer in "Satanic Ritual Abuse" should be damaged enough to actually swallow this narrative tall tale hook, line and sinker!
As a work critical of Satanism as a religion and of the occult however - which it purports to be, this document is seriously flawed and amounts to nothing less than poorly researched, vile slander against occult religions and Satanism as a New Religious Movement. Aside from being nothing short of a bad joke.
Instead of questioning the 158 page-long conspiracy theory they have promoted as fact, the "Francis B." described their correspondence with the Church of Satan as “proof that the Church of Satan is run by novices & con-artists” in a page-long rant on their website dedicated to Phil Botha. It doesn’t seem to occur to Francis B. at all that Uncle Phil might have made all this wacky stuff up.
Available both in English and in Afrikaans, this twaddle isn't even entertaining enough to read as a badly conceived and poorly-presented joke. Furthermore, in terms of quality, it's surprising to me that this item is even for sale on Amazon, because the author never even bothered to design an actual cover. As a document, it evokes something printed at home and stapled together to sell at the local cult tabernacle on the corner. Rather than being presented as a serious piece of any literary or intellectual value, I think this item's only possible salvation would come if it were mercifully repackaged as Christian fiction, in which case it might carry at least a little merit or entertainment value for those who find that sort of thing interesting.
The author, whoever they really are - in their belief that this fantasy has any basis in fact - as well as demonstrated in the string of emails between them and me back in 2013 - needs to educate themself about Satanism as a NRM (New Religious Movement):
"Satanism: The Acid Test" addresses disinformation being distributed against new religious movements (NRMs) such as neo-Pagan religions and Satanism, and sub-cultures like the Vampire sub-culture, offering clarification and educational information to demystify these groups. https://www.academia.edu/4420379/Sata...
I gave this effort a one star rating on Good Reads, but only because I couldn't leave a no-star review.
As far as the old Tinamometer is concerned, it rates a solid, resounding zero.
