made in a lab specifically to piss me off i think. even if the facebook receipts for jessa hadn't dropped in the middle of reading this (which was an made in a lab specifically to piss me off i think. even if the facebook receipts for jessa hadn't dropped in the middle of reading this (which was an arduous process that took over a month by the way), i'd still despise her for making me suffer through the internal monologues of BJ and Magnolia for FIVE HUNDRED PAGES. possibly the most annoying, selfish, vapid people i've ever had the misfortune of reading about. everything they do is the worst possible thing, yet somehow i'm also bored out of my mind reading about it.
and all that for absolutely fucking nothing of substance to happen by the way. the book ends in a space extremely similar to where it began that i guess could be Wow So Full Circle if you're into that kind of thing, which i'm not if the thing in question can't be distinguished from a barren post-apocalyptic field. this book is a wasteland. no hope. no water. no character development. just you, me, magnolia, and her $2000 Jimmy Choos.

only major con that isn't related to like...taking the book more seriously perhaps than i should is that the language can be super modern sometimes. and to be crystal clear i don't mean the AAVE bc that's neat to see in a romantasy book - i mean specific slang like calling something sus, or like at some point a character unironically says "dickmatized" in her internal monologue. that second one might be in a later book actually i don't 100% remember (i did in fact read this entire series) but in general you get a fair bit of that in these LMAO so if that's going to bother you like it can bother me in a fantasy novel this is your fair warning!!
i also listened to this one like half and half as an audiobook and the other two entirely as audiobooks while driving to faraway places and avoiding thinking thoughts about how little i wanted to go to them and i think that enhanced my experience for sure. the narrator (hazel addison in all 3) was great, even doing her various man voices <3...more
