The book centers around the monk of two years and healer, Caius ‘Cai’ (24) and a Viking raider, Fenrir ‘Fen’. After a raid, Fen gets hurt - by Cai - and instead of finishing him off, Cai instead heals him. Weeks go, Fen is healing, and the patient and the doctor gets closer. Can their love survive duty? Here's what I don't understand.... Fen is supposed to be this badass Viking warrior, yet he is defeated by Cai, a monk who, yes is trained to fight, but nothing compare to Fen. I mean, Cai just ran at him and struck him down, no fighting back. I just don't see this happening. And where's that wildness Cai keep referring to with Fen? This ‘barely tamed man’? All I saw was a complete tamed man. Fen was just there. There was nothing special about him.
On top of that, where was the enemies to loves trope that was supposed to be here? Where's the plot? So, to summarize, consider me rather shocked that this book has so many good reviews. It was way too long, with nothing happening, and the writing didn't work for me at all. It left me rather confused at times... This book is so far from Ragnar and Athelstan that it wasn't even funny. Ugh. Overall, it was a complete bust. I struggle to understand a lot of things, I didn't feel the characters connection/chemistry, nor did I like the story. A bust. Damn, I had needed a good read.

I am a prince in my own land—second heir to Lord Sigurd’s Torleik realm, and Sigurd and my brothers and my comrades will be back for me. You must let me go.” “Happily. I’d dump you back on the beach in a heartbeat, your majesty.” “A prince in my own…” The Viking writhed, fresh sweat breaking on him. “Oh, gods. Kill me now, monk. I have soiled myself. I was kinda expecting more from the ‘newly minted detective’ Darren Corliss (28) and the no longer ‘lone wolf detective’ Andreas Ruffner (how old?). Specially as a couple. Missing that, made the book feel unwhole for me, simply because I wanted to see more of Darren and Andreas on a personal level, where they are closer and have more depth to their relationship. It now sucks though, that I have to freaking wait until 2018 for next book in the series.... Man I hate waiting!

The book centers around Jordan ‘Jordy’ Carson (the artist) and Owen Nelson (the writer and wrestler). Jordy is in love with his best friend and Owen needs his best friend in his life. Overall, it's a cute, fast forward and short book. It doesn't have much depth, and not much happens, but it's an okay read that make the time pass. ⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*I struggled a little bit with this one*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱
We're back with third book of homicide detective of four years, Levi Abrams (how old?) and then bounty hunter and now private investigator and still part-time bartender (at Stingray, a LGBT nightclub), Dominic ‘Dom’ Russo (32). Levi and Dominic are getting even closer, however everything is pulling them apart; even themselves. The Seven of Spades are upping their games and are always three steps ahead of the police. They are also fixated on Levi. Levi is seriously struggling with his emotions; he's about to explode, and Dominic is struggling with his gambling addiction which are put on the front runner as he has a chase where gambling is included. Overall, I didn't like how different of a character Dominic was in this book. I felt disconnected to him and I didn't like it. It sorta ruined things for me.
“You’re the—the gentlest person I’ve ever met,” he said. “But somehow that never comes across as weakness. I don’t know how you do that.” “Uh . . . thanks?” “You’re . . .” Levi swallowed. “You’re always kind and loving and thoughtful.” “Wow, how much wine did you have with dinner?” Dominic said, grinning. “I’m not drunk.” “Your face is super flushed.” “I . . .” Levi pressed a hand to his own cheek and realized Dominic was right, though it wasn’t because of the wine. “I’m just trying to—” “Don’t get me wrong, I like you all cute and pink-cheeked. It’s pretty—” “For God’s sake, you asshole, I’m trying to tell you I love you!” Dominic fell silent, every hint of amusement wiped clean from his face. Levi rolled his eyes and looked away, his cheeks burning hotter. Both of Dominic’s large hands cupped Levi’s face and turned him back. Dominic met his eyes with the most solemn expression Levi had ever seen on him. “I love you too,” he said. Levi drew a shaky breath. He knew that Dominic loved him—had known for a while—but hearing it said aloud made it a concrete reality.
OTHER CHARACTERS: → Natasha Stone, one of the counselors in the LVMPD’s Police Employee Assistance Program → Nancy and Saul Abrams, Levi's parents. → Silvia, Dom's paternal grandmother. Rita, his mother. Natalie, his niece. → Stanton Barclay, young scion of a multibillion-dollar hotel empire and was Levi's boyfriend of three years. → Detective Martine Valcourt, Levi's work partner. Her husband, Antoine. Mikayla and Simone, their daughters. → Rebel, Dom's hundred-pound German Shepherd–Rottweiler mix. → Carlos Guerrero and Jasmine Anderson, Dom's neighbors. → Dominic's the third of five children, and the only one of his siblings still unmarried. Soon to be the only one without kids too, since his youngest sister Gina had just announced her first pregnancy a few weeks ago. Angela, the oldest of the five, then there's brother Vincent and sister Theresa. And Dom's brother-in-law Howard; married to Theresa? → Deputy District Attorney Leila Rashid → Adriana Velazquez (16), foster child. → Keith Chapman, was a detective with Levi. Killed himself after being framed by Seven of Spades. → Dr. Angela Tran, Keith's psychiatrist.
Nancy waved a hand. “So come the day after Christmas. That’s one of the upsides of dating a Gentile—you can spend Christmas with Dominic’s family and Hanukkah with yours, no problem.” “I—” Levi stopped short and stared at her. “You just called Dominic by his actual name.” Nancy glanced at Saul, smiled, and reached out to pinch Levi’s chin. “I’ve always said I’d know my son’s bashert when I met him. Haven’t I, Saul?” “She has,” he agreed. Soul mate. Levi swallowed past the sudden lump in his throat. “Okay,” he said quietly. “I’ll talk to Dominic about it.”

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Not bad, but not good either*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱
Five years apart after a secret came out, the respected trauma surgeon, Cole Winston (32?) and Brad Kelly (28) finally reunite. Brad needs Cole, his best friend to get through another thing with his brother. Cole, now older and wiser believes he could handle being Brad’s best friend again. Three years later Brad makes Coles his best man at his wedding to his CEO of Sterling Security's daughter, Jenny. Unfortunately not all went as it was planned; hot encounter at his bachelor party leaves both men reeling.
Defaulting into planning mode was what Cole did best. The need to fill the gap, to ease the look on his friend’s face, was disturbing. After their parents died, Brad had been left to care for Danny. And he’d nearly killed himself trying. Cole’s job was to look after Brad.
Overall, it was cute, fast forward, easy to read with little depth. I liked Cole, but Brad annoyed med a bit with always being unserious. Also I felt like we didn't really get to know the characters on a personal level; more like we were one the outside looking in. Though at some point in the book, I did share a tear for some reason...
Other characters: ↦ Danny Kelly, Brad’s brother. ↦ Ryan and Martinez, Brad and Cole's friends.
Cole took in the angular lines of Brad’s face. He’d missed his company. For the four years they’d been roommates, they’d practically been attached at the hip. His hell-on-wheels friend could talk him into anything. Cole got into, and out of, more trouble with Brad than during the previous twenty-one years of his life.

Second re-read: 03.03.2021 The author's main male character in this one and in at least two others are so goddamn alike! Especially with their reaction to something bad happening to them, and with everyone wanting to touch them or wanting to be around them/in their personal space. It was boring as hell. Also I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I didn't even like them all that much. The book centers around South London mechanic, Devan ‘Dev’ Thompson (24) who is in Porthkennack looking for his mother who gave him up at birth. While being there he mets Kyle Anthony (33) who suffers from narcolepsy. The two find themselves wanting to be around each other, but Dev is only there on vacation. Also who would ever want to put up with someone who can fall asleep anytime. Overall, I just didn't care for the story, nor the characters. I started skimming, even the sex scene, and that's when you know the book doesn't do it for you. I also disliked Ceri Harper a lot. There's also the insta-love feeling. It all happened in less than a week. I hate insta-love.
As if life had gone for a ceasefire on the constant lemon bombardment, and chucked him something he actually wanted for a change.

I didn't like this one. I didn't like the story, I didn't like the characters and I didn't like the writing. The book centers around tattoo artist August ‘Gus’ ‘Goose’ Scott (29) and firefighter Rey Montenegro (32?). Along with Gus' brothers, Barrett ‘Bear’ Jackson, Mason ‘Mace’, Luke Muñoz and Ivo Scott. Gus comes home after being on the road for 6 month; he found out he have a son, Chris (soon 3). Coming home also means seeing the man who broke his heart, Rey. Can Rey get Gus to give him a chance? Overall, the book was confusing in the first 20% and extremely boring throughout the book. The writing just didn't do it for me, and I couldn't connect at all to any of the stories. Hell, I wasn't even interested. I even skimmed the sex scenes and that is saying a lot.

Though not bad, it was rather... predictable and everything seemed so...expected. I had hoped for something more... powerful? I don't know how to describe it, but I had expected something that would give me the feeling of 'oh shit' or 'oh no' or something like that. Instead I got...well not a lot. Sure, I got action, drama, murders, eyes missing and so on, but I felt like the passion was missing, specially considering that book number five will be the last one. Overall, it was somewhat better than book three, but not by much.

The book centers around professor for a smaller private college, Kelly ‘Kel’ Holden Cannon (29) and NFL standout (tight end for the Aventura Outlaws), Britton ‘Blue’ ‘Blueprint’ Montgomery (30). Kelly is in love with his best friend, and though Blue loves his best friend, he believes himself straight. However, he doesn't like other men circling around Kelly. He's a jealous man. But he has no right to be jealous, now does he...? Overall, the book has huge potential, Kelly had that sarcasm that I like in characters, however so much was missing for the story. The big miss was pain. There was absolutely no pain in the book. I though that being rejected or having ones heart pulled back and forth would make one feel pain. But there was nothing. Not even mentioning of pain. That kinda ruined the book for me. There was also the fact that I didn't like how Blue kept pulling Kelly in, only to let go again. I hate selfish people. I did like his jealousy though...
Despite my bitterness about the subject, deep down inside, I think I was waiting on the fantasy, still hoping for the impossible. And I wasn’t willing to compromise. I sighed inwardly. I was as delusional and optimistic as any Disney princess. It was going to look fantastic on my eHarmony profile. I’d use Snow White as my fucking avatar. She found seven men. Surely I could scrounge up one.
[image] Other characters: ↦ Robert ‘Rob’, an architect and Kelly's ex. ↦ Kennedy Cannon, Kelly's sister. ↦ Connor O’Rouke, Kelly's coworker. ↦ Paige, one of Kelly's coworkers ↦ Evan ‘E’ Ivanovich, fellow teammate of Blue, and the best damn defensive lineman in the NFL (according to him anyway), good friends of Blue. ↦ Austin Warnerm, Blue's team's cornerback. ↦ Andrew McAdams, a rookie and had a two dates with Kelly. ↦ Mike, Kelly's father, Kelly Ann, his mother. Awesome parents.
“No one treats my brother like that.” “You’re right,” I said. “But people only treat you how you allow them to. One of my favorite quotes growing up was from Eleanor Roosevelt. Remember? I had it on my door. Mom had it made into a poster. I guess now I know why. She understood what I was up against before I ever did.” “You kept that thing up there until the decal peeled and the letters went white.” Kennedy shook her head and recited, “‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.’”

Re-read: 19.04.2018 It actually not so bad. I believe it was better this time around reading it. Though there's still that something that is missing to make me give it a full three stars instead if two point five. Because that something that is indeed missing is a huge part, and I believe it is that damn connection that the main two characters is supposed to have. I don't feel it so much. Sure I get that they love each other, but even with the kisses and sex scene, I still don't feel like they are a couple. I feel like they are just work partners with benefits. Overall, I like the action, I like the plot, but I'm having trouble with the characters emotions.
[image] Will pulled him forward, wrestling him into a kind of bear hug where they could hang on tight and neither had to see the other's expression. Taylor rested his face in the bare, warm curve of Will's uninjured shoulder and listened to the shuddery sounds of Will fighting his feelings. He could hear the slow, heavy pound of Will's heart, and though he was not much for poetry, he suddenly remembered lines from some forgotten time and place—all his times and places having led, it seemed, to this moment. The bleeding to death of time in slow heart beats, Wakeful they lie.
Other characters: ↦ Riley, Will's five-year-old German shepherd. ↦ Lieutenant Commander David Bradley, was Will's temporary partner in book #2 and ex. ↦ Assistant Field Officer Director Greg Cooper, Taylor and Will's boss. ↦ Ioakim Nemov, Licensed by the Colorado Insurance Division of the Department of Regulatory Agencies; Bounty hunter (a Fugitive Recovery Agent). A mad Russian. ↦ Kelila Hedwig, a suspected terrorist who claims she's being framed. Is also highly pregnant. (view spoiler)[Gives birth to William Taylor Hedwig at the end of the book. “We're sticking together.” “Would you listen to me?” “Would you listen to me? I'm not leaving you out here.” What a really bad time to get choked up, but Will was glaring at him, mouth thinned to a white line and eyes so bright they were glittering. Bad timing for both of them. “Will…” “I'm. Not. Leaving. You. Got that?” Taylor took a deep breath. “It's okay. I know you'll come back.” To his surprise, Will's hand closed on his shoulder and pulled him forward into a fleeting but adamant press of mouths. “You're right. I will. Always.” He released Taylor and turned away. “Let's go. It can get dark fast in the mountains.”

Special Agents Taylor ‘Tay’ MacAllister (32) and William ‘Will’ Brandt (still don't know how old he is...?) are back in a third short story. Their relationship is still new, and things keep coming their way, putting it on the rocks. Will has a difficult decision to make, while Taylor is trying to not break over this decision. There's also a the problem of a pregnant woman they are trying to keep safe while others try to kill her... Overall, it was alright, but still so damn irritating meh. I want more; more depth, more feelings, more connection, more...just more! I'm getting kinda tried of not getting it from this one, though since each book is so short, I think I'll manage to finish the series... We'll see.

We're back with the ‘newly minted detective’, Darren Corliss (28) and the no longer ‘lone wolf detective’, Andreas Ruffner (in this forties?). This time we get more romance and affection, though not much, as Andreas' kids gets kidnaped. Although I had expected to see more of Andreas together with his kids, Erin (how old?), Ben (24), Casey (21), and their half sister, Emily (4), we didn't get a whole lot of them. Overall, I hope we get more depth in the last book with the couple. (view spoiler)[It was pretty sad about Asher, Darren's brother who has Alzheimer's. Hanging himself like he did, almost the same as my own brother. (hide spoiler)]
When the whole world was on fire, we leaned on each other and got each other through it. When everything was boring and nothing was happening, we stayed close just because we wanted to. It was perfect. The future was anyone’s guess. We were cops—anything could happen to either of us. That was the reality of our job.

Overall, I liked it. It was a quick read, with friends to lovers theme (a great friendship) and although there wasn't much action - or much happening - it was still a awesome read. I did however, want more from that ending. It felt a little cut short.

The second book in the Havoc series centers around undercover ATF agent, Bram ‘Monk’ (32) and the the president of Havoc, Samuel ‘Sweet’ Sweeting (how old?). Sweet we met in book one, same with Bram's younger brother who has now gone missing. Bran however, is a new character. Broken and quite ready to accept that death is right around the corner, he's willing to do everything it takes to find his brother, even entering a MC club. This is where he meet Sweet, who is also looking for Bram's brother but for different reasons. Overall, I was quite disappointed. For some reason I though the ATF again we were gonna have a the main character were Jethro Holmes, who we met in book one. Wouldn't that had been interesting? Anyways, this book had a case of insta-love and too much sex and too little depth.
Sweet came a second later, somehow still managing to half hold Bram up against him. God, how long had it been? Months and months of his own hand, he realized as he tried to get his breathing under control. Because prospects in the Heathens fucked women—no bisexuals or gays allowed. So he’d turned himself into a goddamned monk—hence the nickname—and pretended he’d been wounded in battle so he didn’t have to fuck indiscriminately. Although he loved women, he mostly missed the goddamned weight, the pressure and brute strength of a man on him. Sweet had given him everything he’d asked for.
OTHER CHARACTERS: → Linc, the brother missing and their sister, Linnea. → Parisi, Bram's ATF boss, the one who approached him about becoming a Heathen MC member in order to take parts of their operation down from the inside. And (view spoiler)[the one who's betraying Bram by selling him out to the Heathens MC. (hide spoiler)] → Bones, XO of the Heathens MC and one of the meaner motherfuckers Bram had ever had the displeasure of meeting. (view spoiler)[It's also revealed that Bones is Gypsy's brother. (hide spoiler)] → Gypsy, the bounty hunter who was part of the Havoc MC and has a personal interest in finding Linc. → Dozer ‘Doz’, one of Bram's oldest friends from the academy. They hadn’t partnered together, but they’d always looked out for each other on the QT. → Tug and Ozzie, Sweet's two best enforcers. → Virgil, was from the Sons of Bastards MC, a rogue member who could always be counted on to keep the SOBs, Havoc, and Hangmen from getting caught up in Heathen and Pagan shit. Former Special Forces, the guy was like a goddamned shadow and a slick goddamned bastard. If he didn’t trust you, he’d kill you without a second glance (Sweet's mind). → Misha, Sweet's sister and a doctor. → Sean Rush (24) and the lieutenant for the Havoc Motorcycle Club Ryker (35?) <- both main characters in book one.
“How?” he managed. Sweet glanced up at him. “I have my ways. Pays to be in charge.” “I thought—” “I know. And you would’ve done it anyway,” Sweet told him. It wasn’t an accusation, merely a calm statement of fact Bram agreed with wholeheartedly. He’d surrendered to Sweet’s wants, his needs . . . he’d shown the other MC members that Sweet was not only in charge of the club, but in charge of his man. And in this culture, that was possibly the most important sign of an effective leader. He’d trusted Sweet, and Sweet hadn’t let him down.
