My name is a little different and when people said it was different, or would say it wrong it made me not like my name as much. Another thing that I loved about this book was that the author makes a character who is beloved different however the students didn’t know she was different until after they liked her; this shows my young readers that you should not judge someone based on their appearance or name because they may be someone you really like or enjoy otherwise. If I were to use this book in my classroom I would probably only use it in third grade and lower. The illustrations are also really cute and help add to the story....more

I love how Molly Lou Melon never stops being exactly who she is even when she moves to a new town and school. As someone who has moved many times in their lives and been the new girl it is really hard to stay true to who you are and she shows just how strong she is by not giving in to Ronald Durkin. Another thing that I love about this book is the illustrations; I fell in love with Molly Lou Melon as soon as I saw! When using this in my own classroom I would probably use it at the beginning of the year to show my students that it is okay to be different and not to let others make you change who you are. I think I could use this book with any age because it a lesson everyone should learn regardless of their age. ...more

I love the addition of two new schools, which add a lot more depth to the story. Another aspect of the story that I really enjoy is how the characters start growing and how their friendships are starting to change. Like the other Harry Potter book, I do not think I would make my students read it in class but I would read it to them at the end of the day when they are getting ready to go home. I think this book is great to get students engaged in reading and allow them to use their imagination to take them on an adventure to another world. I know that this book changed the way I view reading and think that a lot of young readers can find themselves enjoying reading because of this series. ...more

This is one of my favorite books in the series because I feel like this is the first time the three friends are starting to really find themselves as teenagers. I also love how this story keeps you guessing up until the very end; J.K Rowling did a great job of not giving away the major plot twist. While there are a lot of life lessons that can be gained from this book like friendship and how there are always two sides to every story but I think I would keep this book in my library more for entertainment. This is also not a book I would make my kids read, however I might read it to them while they are working on papers or at the end of the day after the students pack up to go home. ...more

I really like this book, I have read it many times over and while it may not be considered an amazing novel it is one that I found very entertaining. The drama of young love and two people trying to find themselves while fighting their past kept me reading, waiting to see how their story ended up and if they would be able to be with one another. Abby narrates her story is such a way that the read feels like they are there with her experiencing her joy and pain. This is a great novel that I feel middle grade girls would really enjoy, however I do not think it would be something that I would use in my own classroom. ...more
I enjoyed how this book is a different persons point of view from Beautiful Disaster. While Travis tells his version of how he feel in love with Abby I enjoyed how this book is a different persons point of view from Beautiful Disaster. While Travis tells his version of how he feel in love with Abby and the past he tries to overcome the reader experiences a males perspective on many young adult struggles. One thing I really liked while reading this book was how the author had two characters describe the same situation or event and how there were many similarities and differences between how Abby and Travis felt about these events. While I really have enjoyed this book a number of times I do not think that it would be one that I use in my own classroom. I would however keep it in my classroom library so that my students can enjoy it. This also is a book that I would only keep in my classroom if I am teaching grades 7 and up....more

This book can be used to show children that no matter how small you are you can do anything you want as long as you have the will to succeed. Another way that I would use this book in my classroom is to show them how friends can come in all different shapes and sizes and that by working together with others you can solve any problem faced in front of you. I really enjoyed this book not only for the amazing messages that can be gained but also for the illustrations; I love how the author uses detailed illustrations that are bright and colorful to tell the story. This book is one of my favorite wordless picture books. ...more

There are so many different events that happen while the mouse is hanging out with you and it keeps the reader curious to see what the mouse will want to do next. I love this story but I don’t think I would use it in a classroom because there is not much of a message or a way for me to connect it to a lesson that I plan on teaching. I think that this book and the others in the series are great books for entertainment but that is about it. If I were to use them in my classroom I would only use them in kindergarten and lower. ...more

This is a great way to show how hard the families work because after the father comes back from selling everything, including his ox and the cart, he walks back to his house and starts the process all over again. I personally like the story but was not the biggest fan of the illustrations; I think that the people in the book look strange to me and that’s why I didn’t like the illustrations. I think a reader can take away how a lot of hard work can really pay off in the end to. ...more

I think this story can show a reader how scared and horrified parents can be when they don’t know where their child is; I can see myself using this to start a conversation with my class about how to be safe and what they could do to make sure their families know where they are. My overall thought about this book is that it shows the reader the importance of family and how that is the greatest gift someone can have, the best thing is having people who will go above and beyond to find you and love you no matter what happens. I would use this book in lower grade, perhaps 3rd and lower. ...more

There is I think this book is great and does a wonderful job of talking about a topic that has been in the public eye a lot lately in a positive way. There is no opinion in the book and just focuses on the happiness that everyone felt on that day in June. I like how bright and colorful the illustrations are and how they showed a wide range of people connected by nothing more than love and happiness. I would use this book in my classroom to introduce the topic of the GLBT community. I would however make sure that parents were comfortable with me teaching this to their children. I would hope that this book would show my student that just because we love differently does not mean there is anything wrong with those people. One of my goals as a teacher is to help my students become more loving and kind people and I think taking the time to talk about controversial issues such as this can help them work towards that goal. ...more

I like how in this book Katniss is starting to show a lot more of her emotions and does not deal with being put into another Hunger Games as well as she did the first time. I think this book does a wonderful job of continuing the story is a new and exciting way that keeps the readers engaged the entire time. While I know that Katniss dealt with a lot throughout this story she was always strong and that went away which really changed the way I felt about the book because in my mind Katniss was stronger than what the author made her out to be. I think that there are a number of great lesson that can be taken away from this book, but overall I think that the book would be read for entertainment. However I do think that it is something that I will have in my own classroom because it is a series that I know is popular with both girls and boys. This book does have some good lessons and funny antidotes that can be very entertaining and enlightening. I did like how this series has a ton of realistic drawings show what the main character and his family are going through. These drawings help show that this book is like a real diary. This is not a book that I would teach to my students although I would let them read it for fun during silent reading time. ...more
