She just doesn't see the world the same as others. And she had so much confidence, which was fun to read.
Hero was a perfect match for her. He could outwit her, but never make her feel stupid.
The last minute angst didn't fit at all. Thankfully, it didn't last long....more

In this case, the Hero is a surgeon specializing in pediatric spines. Heroine is a surgical assistant. When heroine's surgeon retires she is assigned to the hero. Hero has a terrible reputation for his treatment of his staff. Heroine has a couple of rough days, but they work well together.
Their romance starts when hero's brother takes her to a family wedding. Heroine takes a drunk hero home and tucks him into bed. Thoughts are spoken aloud.
It's cute to watch their romance unfold with the heroine's younger sister as chaperone.
I'm glad there wasn't as big of an emphasis on the heroine's past trauma and her hard financial times. The emphasis was on healing patients, which I enjoyed....more

Every situation - from finding a bar on a cold winter's night, to working at the library or attending Sunday lunch - was fraught with meaning and angst. Drama llama heroine got on my last nerve....more

Heroine is the second choice of her mother. Hero plans on dating while married. (!) There marriage will be on paper only.
It doesn't really work out that way. When heroine has difficulty finding an apartment in NYC, she moves in with hero. Their close proximity is what saves the day.
Oh- and heroine is hot, although she doesn't know it.
I'm glad the heroine had work - true work - to do, while she waited for the hero to wake up. That made all the difference to her character. She wasn't pathetic waiting for someone to love her. She had art to love and create.
It was obvious to this reader that the hero was smitten with her. Hero's brother tried to tell her, but heroine was really fearful of exposing her true feelings. (So was hero)
Going to his office with sandwiches was the perfect solution although it seemed like a such a futile gesture at the time.
I'm glad the heroine had such a successful gallery opening in Paris. Hero finally showed his true feelings in a big way.
Just a fun spin on the marriage of convenience trope. ...more

Everyone is super nice in this low-angst story. Heroine is a bit OTT in her anxiety and self-esteem about her looks, but that is to be expected in a contemporary rom com. Hero is hot and bland. No one has a tragic backstory - thank the lord.
The rich are different, I guess. I just couldn't get into this story. I started and stopped it so many times.
H/h have a marriage of convenience with The rich are different, I guess. I just couldn't get into this story. I started and stopped it so many times.
H/h have a marriage of convenience with a written contract that covers all the rules of their relationship - including optional sex once a week and social obligations where they must appear as a couple.
They start catching feelings for each other - the hero first (typical) and the heroine clueless (typical).
That a five minute conversation/confession clears up all the manufactured angst tells you how simplistic this story is....more

This alterante universe has the English class system (hero is a duke) and the same manners and rules.
However, there are active fandoms in this alternative universe. And cos-players. And fandom chapters.
The entire HEA really rests on the existence of fandoms in this timeline, so I'm emphasizing that fact. If you can't go with the flow, then it won't be an enjoyable experience.
This was fun (and funny in parts). H/h are opposites attract. Side characters add their own dimension. A romp of a romance. ...more
