am i.... missing something? am i reading a different book? HOW do people like this book?
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
listen. i have a heart of ice. maybe i don’t deserve a romance, ever, whether in book form or in real life.
because i felt absolutely nothing reading this. possibly some rage. but that’s it. but this time, i know it’s because this book was genuinely so bad, not because i’m a picky asshole when it comes to romance.
my head is literally empty. i don’t know what to even think of this because of how bad it was. i have NO thoughts. i have literally lost my ability to think. i do not think therefore i am not.
HOW HOW HOW does this have a 4.4 rating. HOW.
as with my other one star reviews, i am going to put my review in bullet points:
SPOILERS AHEAD (but read it because you don't want to read this book anyway):
• insta love is strong here. bree sees archer and it’s almost immediate love. the silent, brooding town outcast? why not? because as soon as you see a hot mysterious guy, you HAVE to fall in love, right?
• speaking of badly written things, the two characters were so two dimensional it hurt.
• this girl saw her dad shot and was almost raped at gunpoint. and then her ptsd gets magically cured….just by sleeping next to the hot guy she met a month ago? what the absolute fuck? how did this author write that and go “yes. totally fine”.
• don’t! fucking! write! trauma! if! you! are! going! to! do! it! badly!
• “my sweet mute boy” -> WHAT? WHAT? did i read that correctly? is that supposed to be romantic? it’s just so so cringey. i got second hand embarrassment every time she called him like “my mute boy” or “my kind silent man”. literally cannot take this seriously.
• there are great romances that have some sort of tragedy as a background. this is not it. she weirdly romanticizes bree’s PTSD and archer’s disability in a way that feels so slimy and icky and made me uncomfortable reading it.
• the stripper scene. holy shit. what even was that? don’t even have to elaborate. it was the worst. also, bree forgave him so easily. babe, grow a spine.
• as soon as they confess their love for each other, they just only have sex. at one point, i started getting tired of it. like smut is great but do they not have anything else to do other than just fucking? is that it? it literally felt like even the author herself didn’t believe that they were compatible and the only chemistry she could write was sexual chemistry. absolutely no emotional connection. and the romantic dialogue was so cheesy even hallmark would have rejected it.
• archer having no idea how sex worked or relationships worked. do you really expect me to believe that? also, on that note, him just leaving bree? i just literally don’t understand how you’re supposed to root for these characters.
• the ending. how fucking cliche. i am all for cliches and tropey romances but wow. no words for the miracle ending. i actually felt nauseous.

Great review! I felt the exact same way about this book and ended up dnf-ing it at 60%. Don't understand the hype tbh.
Don't worry. I am a sensitive person who loves emotional books and this book gave me absolutely nothing. I have half an hour left of it and my rating is 1 star..
Right?! I can’t understand how so many people say this is their favorite book. And the amount of five-stars rating this book has?! Unbelievable. I can read something from Wattpad with better writing and better plot than this.
to put it lightly, everytime i see the cover of this book i feel the need to bleach my eyes. i. hate. it. I HATE IT.
COMPLETELY AGREE. and the way they only word she could use to describe his eyes are “whiskey colored” like literally every chapter i almost threw the book.
i finished the book a while ago and i'm ngl that i love it - and even fell in love with archer - BUT i also thought that the author wrote the "trauma" of the character badly bc how does the FMC got over it THAT quick after spending some time with MMC?
THIS REVIEW LITERALLY SUMS UP EVERYTHING IM FEELING. THAT STRIPPER SCENE WAS SO SHITTY. I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HE DID THAT SHIT AND BREE FORGAVE HIM SO EASILY AND EVEN DROVE HIM BACK. ANYWAYS I USUALLY GIVE ROM BOOKS ONE STARS SO IM NOT EVEN SURPRISED. THE AUTHOR ALWAYS HAS TO WRITE SOMETHING SHITTY TO FUCK UP A GOOD STORYLINE.
I am 63% of the way through and I am about to DNF it. I. AM. STRUGGLING. I feel like I am not that hard to please but this book just isn't doing it for me.
i could not agree more, bree’s trauma was romanticized and then pushed to the side once she got with archer. so disgusting.
this review is EVERYTHING i was thinking/feeling while reading this TYSM. this story had the absolute BEST reviews literally all 4&5 stars and i gave it 2 stars being generous.. i cant i couldn’t stand the main character and just so much of the story was stupid every dumb conflict that was presented got solved in like 3 pages and i just felt like the book was on a loop of the same lets fuck to make up.. also i thought it was just me who hated all the sex scenes in this but they were horrible.. the plot had some good potential but the characters and writing was atrocious.
Easily the worst book I have ever read. All the points above plus a bunch more. The writing!! 😳 Who published this??
Agree!! This book is terrible. I felt disgusted… worst book ever. How the hell it has such a high rating, I don’t understand?!
I feel the exact same way. I'm half way through and dont think I can finish. I am so sick of these boring sex scenes. You said it perfectly.
Just posted my review and now I am happy to read yours as it echoes most of my points. Thank you I feel less alone compared to all the 4/5 star rating
I am almost done….I like it & hate it at the same time . I thought to myself “hmmm I should read some reviews” and I saw this.
Such a real review. I truly do not understand the hype. I just wanted to finish the book because I personally found it boring, mundane and predictable. There were no twists and too much spice that I had to skim through. I do not understand the high rating on this book.
YESSS I felt so bad not liking this book when it had such a high ratin cuz i felt like i just didn't GET IT but now im gonna my rating down to a 2 stars(and that's generous)
Also, didn't he read a lot of books? How did he not know what to do around a stripper or any girl for that matter loll
I liked the book however while reading I was thinking all the time how this couple will work on their trauma's and I couldnt agree more about the lack of chemistry without the sex
Same thoughts on the PTSD of her dad's murder / attempted rape... Also wondered just how hot IS she because every male character in the book was in love with her :P Archer, Travis, her best friend from home, even the guy at the dance.
I agree! I am half way in and I so over it! I am tired of the sex scenes and the how the author describes certain body parts. I enjoy description but this just seems off. And if she uses one more variation of "a couple of beats" or "several beats", I am done 😂😂
This book is really bad and I'm not complicated normally, shitty writing, no depth, I never cried during the book and normally I cry at every book I read so...
Same! 100% agree. I almost dnf'd, but for some reason I thought something would happen..nothing ever happened in this book. Nothing.
