Notes: A lookback/recap, teaser/roadmap, primer sort of book, it does the job, though bits and bobs and doesn't really hook.
*Progress updates: Preamble ◦ Prelude–Issue #84 ◦ Annual 2020–Annual 2021 ◦ Opening Moves #1-2

Notes:
(1) So, this is a compilation of the two "Opening Moves" issues and the "Pre-Game" issue, which is itself a compilation.
- Essentially, what we have here is a compilation of a compilation.
(2) This is one of those trades that I don't really have any motivation to read, I just need to get it done.
- Frankly, I stopped caring after Sophie Campbell took over the series."

Notes:
(1) You know, this is at least the third time I've read the prelude and issue #84. Not nearly as many times as I've had to read "Batman #17," but enough to be tiresome.
- Hopefully, I'm done with it for good, or at least until the time comes, if ever, that I decide to re-read the whole series.
(2) Albeit annoying, still better than anything Sophie Campbell's written."

Notes:
(1) One thing made crystal-clear from reading the 2020 and 2021 Annuals back-to-back is the disparity in quality.
- I don't know what changed in that year (coronavirus aside) but everything from story to art to pacing to sheer utility and information conveyed takes a nosedive.
(2) Notably, the Turtles don't appear in either issue, apart from reminiscences about them."

Notes:
(1) The "Opening Moves" issues are all about Shredder and Kitsune changing into spirit form and mining memories of Rat King's would-be allies for their own allies.
- It's literally "the enemy of my enemy is my friend."
- I guess the "opening move" is research.
(2) Apparently, "Armageddon Game" is a chess term.
- Explains all the chess analogies, themes and symbolism."
