Oakland voter turnout under 20% in early voting for mayor, district 2 council seat, and 10.75% sales tax

Oakland's special election for the hotly contested mayor's race saw early voter turnout at just 18.9% of the 250,000 ballots sent to registered voters, according to the Alameda County Deputy Registrar. Leading mayoral candidates are former Congresswoman Barbara Lee and former city council member Loren Taylor, who need to get a simple majority with ranked-choice voting.
