Here's a very quick habit for you to consider adopting for any phase of ongoing change. Before you invest time or effort in a piece of work, pause and send one short message to whoever owns the priority. It only needs two sentences. This is my understanding of what we're trying to achieve with this work, and then fill in your own brief summary here, and this is what I'm working on right now to stay aligned with that. Again, fill in the gap there. This check-in makes your intention to stay aligned clear, and it gives the priority owner an opportunity to course-correct anything if needed. A message that should take no longer than five minutes to write could save you hours of misdirected effort. And by demonstrating that you are keeping on top of shifting priorities, it won't harm your career progression either. Use it at the start of a new piece of work. Use it when something changes unexpectedly. Use it whenever you're about to invest real effort into something. In this working world…
