Have you ever struggled to give feedback in a way that felt effective and motivated the other person? Most of us have. It can be tough out there. In this lesson, I'll share the framework for giving developmental feedback that I developed with my co-founder at Liberation Labs, Viva Asmelash. This thoughtful roadmap will help both you and the recipient get the most out of the interaction. Begin with step one: Ask permission. Just because the timing feels right for you doesn't mean the other person will be in the best position for the conversation. When you ask for permission, you demonstrate respect for them and the relationship you're building together. Here's what it might sound like. “I'd like to share some observations about our meeting yesterday and get your thoughts on how it went. Is now a good time?” Step two is to connect over a shared goal.
