Planning at the MBTA

While the MBTA operates service today, we're also planning for the future of our system. Planning helps us meet the evolving needs of our riders throughout the region.

Our planning teams evaluate processes and make decisions across the MBTA for the long term. We bring MBTA departments together to develop plans and projects that fulfill our mission and goals. This includes:

  • Strategic and other long-range plans across the MBTA
  • Service and infrastructure plans for subway, bus, regional rail, ferry, paratransit, and MBTA facilities
  • Financial plans through our Capital Investment Plan (CIP)
  • Plans to increase the sustainability and resilience of our system
