At PCMag, we know products—our experts review and recommend thousands of them. Our deals team works tirelessly to find the lowest prices on the technology you want most.

As the RAMpocalypse persists, memory and storage prices have soared to new heights, leaving us waving frantically on the ground begging for bandwidth. If your PC could use an SSD upgrade, there are (thankfully) some diamond deals popping up in the RAM rough right now, like the Samsung SSD 990 at Amazon right now.

The 0.09-inch internal SSD is a 2TB M.2 with "Mojo," as our expert put in his review, and an eye-catching 36% off. That takes this 2TB upgrade down from $529.99 to $339.99 and saves you $190 to put toward another capable component.

The SSD 990 is a brand-new internal solid-state drive from Samsung, which is a pleasantly surprisingly release considering the memory crisis. It boasts 7,250 and 6,450 sequential read and write speeds to get you through the workday, but it isn’t a traditional SSD: it doesn’t have its own dedicated high-speed Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM). This helps to keep manufacturing costs down (which trickles down to you, shopper). But it’s still an incredibly energy-efficient, PCIe Express 4.0 SSD with a few tricks up its sleeve.

What tricks, you ask? For starters, it boasts Samsung’s Magician software suite that helps you keep tabs on your data and even optimize your drive’s long-term health. It’s also helpful to install vital firmware updates to keep everything safe and sound. The SSD 990 also uses 256-bit AES encryption, which uses a symmetric-key algorithm that scrambles any readable data into completely indiscernible code with a 256-bit key. Talk about a highly secure way to store your sensitive data.

When we took a closer look at the SSD 990 in our detailed review, drive expert Tony Hoffman called it a “welcome addition” to Samsung’s PCI Express 4.0 line. It put on a solid performance in our benchmarking tests, but he did mention that the SSD’s value would depend on what the retail price shakes out at. Unfortunately, the RAM crisis keeps that ground from remaining solid for the time being. However, no one can deny that $190 off definitely puts it in a better place to buy!
