(external Graphics Processing Unit) A stand-alone GPU used to augment laptop and desktop computers with a high-powered graphics card. The external GPU (eGPU) is typically connected via Thunderbolt.

Jury Rig If Possible

When there is no Thunderbolt port, gaming enthusiasts have created configurations with cables hanging out of the laptop that connect to an external GPU and external power supply. See GPU and midrange GPU.
