Ancient and Mystic Alphabets

This is a work in progress. The lecture is meant to proceed a make your own rune set & divination class. I am open to input to refine my lecture and workshop. A word about our 21st century perspective before we discuss Runes in Magick. We like to highlight the exotic and even romanticize our ancestors regardless of where they are from. It is important for us to take a moment and consider the cultural lens through which we view ancient Scandinavians and Germans and keep in mind most of them...

The Tengwar alphabet is well suited to writing Welsh, possibly because Tolkien based Sindarin, one of the languages he invented, partly on Welsh. The version below is similar to the Sindarin mode and was devised by Simon Ager, the author of this site. (...)

The Zentlardy alphabet appeared in the 1980s cartoon series Robotech, which was based on the Japanese cartoon Macross. The writing system was used in the cartoon on the side of alien space ships, and in the now-defunct roleplaying games Robotech and Macross II. The origins of the Zentlardy alphabet are unknown, though Kevin Siembieda of Palladium Books was probably involved. The name of the alphabet has a number of spellings: Zentlardy, Zentraedi or T'sentradi. (...)
