Subatomic Particle Tracks
⚡ A real photograph of the invisible world. ⚡ This extraordinary image was captured in 1984 inside the 4.6-metre (15-foot) bubble chamber at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) near Chicago. Rather than being an illustration, it is an authentic scientific photograph documenting an actual particle interaction. ⚡ The chamber was filled with liquid hydrogen and exposed to a beam of neutrinos. Because neutrinos carry no electrical charge, they pass through the chamber without leaving visible traces. However, in this rare moment, one neutrino collided with a proton inside the liquid hydrogen. ⚡ That collision created a spectacular spray of charged subatomic particles, visible as the elegant white lines, loops, spirals, and sweeping curves radiating upward from the bottom of the image. The powerful magnetic field surrounding the chamber bends these particles into graceful arcs, allowing scientists to study their paths and identify the particles that were created. ⚡ The large white arc near the top of the image is part of the bubble chamber itself, while every fine line and spiral records the journey of particles that existed for only tiny fractions of a second. ⚡ Combining cutting-edge science with unexpected beauty, this historic photograph reveals the hidden architecture of the subatomic world and makes a striking piece for physicists, engineers, educators, students, and anyone fascinated by the mysteries of the universe. ⚡ Available on posters, framed prints, apparel, stickers, notebooks, phone cases, mugs, and many more Redbubble products. ⚡ The repeating Redbubble watermark never appears on purchased products. The subtle Lulu Leb signature is part of the artwork. If you would prefer a version without the signature, feel free to contact me.
