"Lesser Spotted Britain" is my village road sign gift range that features my photographs of the UK's funnily, daftly and sometimes downright rudely named villages & roads. Anyone can put a swear word on a product but where's the ingenuity in that?!
My products are the culmination of over 20 years & upwards of 30,000 miles travelled at the coal face of funny UK place names. I’ve photographed every single sign on my products - the resultant archive stretches into the thousands & I'm always adding more!
Since embarking on my journey back in 2002 I’ve had made a Channel 4 TV series called “Lesser Spotted Britain”, had two bestselling books published - 2004's Far From Dull & Other Places (Sort Of Books) & 2015's Lesser Spotted Britain (Portico) &, in 2018, two of my limited edition prints were featured in Grayson Perry's Room of Fun at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition!
This particular village can be found on the Scottish islands of both Orkney & Shetland and is a very popular destination of tourists wanting a photo taken by the sign. Unfortunately, the sign that is featured here is on Orkney & the sign has been stolen so many times that the council have refused to replace it. So you'll just have to make do with one of my gifts!
