FEATURED in: Your Pictures Exposed Group, 3rd December 2017 #1 Favourites Group, Christmas Features, 3rd December 2017 Shadows And Reflections, Silhouette Photography Group, 9th December 2017 One of the longest floats in the Bridgwater (Somerset UK) Carnival negotiating a sharp bend in the road. Spectators are not allowed to watch from the right hand side of this picture because the floats need the pavement space to get around. This annual Guy Fawkes event is believed to be the biggest illuminated carnival in Europe, and the oldest. Bridgwater, Somerset, England. Camera used: Nikon Coolpix E3200 The floats are worked on all year by volunteers on Carnival Committees and some are over 100 feet in lengths. The driving cab (and sometimes tractors) are cleverly hidden or disguised within the design of the float. Floats come from all the surrounding towns and villages and they also visit all the other towns for their carnivals throughout the Carnival season although many of the towns are unable to accommodate the longer floats. It is, of course, highly competitive with each organisation or town vying for the accolade of Best Float. All the main streets in Bridgwater are closed to accommodate the procession which takes over 2 hours to drive through the town.
