    Republic Aviation
Republic Aviation Corporation was a prominent American aircraft manufacturer based in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York. Originally founded in 1931 as the Seversky Aircraft Company by Russian expatriate and World War I pilot Alexander de Seversky, it was reorganized as Republic Aviation in 1939 after financial setbacks and leadership changes. The company became renowned for producing some of the most iconic military aircraft of the 20th century, including the P-47 Thunderbolt—a rugged and powerful fighter that played a crucial role in World War II. Later, Republic developed jet-powered aircraft like the F-84 Thunderjet and the F-105 Thunderchief, which served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars respectively. In 1965, Republic was acquired by Fairchild Aircraft, marking the end of its independent operations, though its legacy continued through aircraft like the A-10 Thunderbolt II, affectionately known as the “Warthog”.
