Click on image to enlarge. This little tooter showed up at the old freight station on the other side of Hamburg, NY, a week or so ago. We heard it before we saw it... the line that runs through the western part of the Village of Hamburg handles a small amount of traffic, & we are used to hearing the hoots of the diesel switcher that is the primary motive power around here, but when we hear a steam whistle, we race on over there. This little engine not only Could but Did - it was built by Baldwin for the Viscose Company of Roanoke, Virginia, but was eventually sold for scrap. Enter its savior, a fellow from Dunkirk, NY, along the shore of Lake Erie just south of here... & the rest is history.
