All event staff at assigned stations Doors open Actors acting as paparazzi at red carpet entering hallway from Marriott Lobby. There will be stanchions with velvet ropes. Two portrait lights, actor with prop mic, actors with prop cameras (but making it clear that were not actually taking pictures). w/ secondary welcoming placement at north entrance (just one actor). Other actors or Madrigals in the hallway welcoming and collecting data for data visualization. Six design exhibits in the hallway Another red carpet with velvet ropes at North Entrance. There, one actor welcomes people while holding aside the rope, so they can enter. Two tables to input data for Arts Tech project (one in hallway, one by north doors) Table by north door becomes Art purchasing table as well. Check-in at Northeast check-in desk, coat check Large circular bar open in North center section of ballroom Mack Glass display in northwest corner of ballroom (roughly 5 by 6 by 6 tall) String Quartet playing in northwest corner of ballroom (in front of piano and jazz band equipment) Art centerpieces on tables, Art on walls behind stages. My name is Jim Major and as Dean of the College of Fine Arts, I have the special honor of welcoming you home tonight, as part of this special Homecoming week. This is a particularly exciting time for me as the College celebrates its 40th Anniversary. Visionaries in the arts at Illinois State University came together and said lets build a professional training program in the cornfields of Central Illinois that will rival the top schools in Chicago and New York and they did it. A new Department of Theatre was created, and it joined with the Departments of Art and Music to form a new college under the leadership of Dean Charles Bolen. We still feel his spirit. And every day, the spirit and creativity and power of the arts flows through this institution as our talented students and faculty work together and create something magical. Its a joy coming to work. Right now, Id like to introduce your guide. Marketta Wilder is one of our most recent alums. Last year, she was nominated for an Irene Ryan acting competition award and was one of only 16 actors in the entire country selected to perform at the National Festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

I am proud to introduce Marketta Wilder. But for now, let me fill you in on whats been surrounding you As you came in tonight, you may have noticed the costume and set designs in the hallway from School of Theatre productions. The Faculty String Quartet and the Faculty Brass Quintet greeted you. Hanging over our two stages are works of art created by Illinois State alumni and faculty artists. And on the screens, you can see a new work of art that you actually created this is an arts technology class project that takes the data from questions that we asked people as they arrived, and turns it into an artistic visualization. See if you can find yourself in that painting. On some of the tables, the centerpieces are actually works of art created by students or faculty. If you wish to purchase one from the artist, simply be the first to take the card that has the price on it and its yours. You can pay at the table near the entrance, and take it home tonight. Thats also true for the large glass sculpture created by Art alum Jason Mack. But now, while you can buy the art, there are some things you cant buy. This year, the Madrigal Singers are having a little celebration of their own. The 55th annual Madrigal Dinners, which will be taking place December 8-11 at the Alumni Center. This is the longest-running event of its kind in the entire country. Homecoming Weekend affords us the opportunity to recognize our notable alumni. Yesterday, distinguished graduates of the College of Fine Arts were inducted into our inaugural Hall of Fame. I would like to ask these honored alumni, along with other Illinois State graduates in attendance who were recognized by their respective colleges or departments this weekend to please stand. The performing arts are beacons of the times. They reflect the best of us and the worst of us. As they tell their tales, on a stage, shining in the light. But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun. All the worlds a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.. To Moscow, to Moscow, to Moscow! I don't say he's a great man. Willie Loman never made a lot of money. His name was never in the paper. He's not the finest character that ever lived. But he's a human being, and a terrible thing is happening to him. So attention must be paid. He's not to be allowed to fall in his grave like an old dog. Attention, attention must finally be paid to such a person. To lose one parent, Mr Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness. Because it is my name. Because I cannot have another in my life! This is the first time shes ever been asked to choreograph a piece for a stage 7 feet wide by 150 feet long. I am delighted to introduce to you our student speaker for this evening - the first recipient of the Illinois State University Alumni Association Scholarship. Philip Carter is a freshman from Collinsville, Illinois, majoring in music education. An Eagle Scout and member of multiple honor societies at his high school, Philip is already very involved at Illinois State University. He plays in the Big Red Marching Machine, the Symphonic Winds, and a brass quintet. He is joined tonight by his proud parents, Warren and Laurie Carter, and his younger sister, Lauren. When you leave this evening, remember to pick up a copy of the program from one of our staff. Id like to remind you about the artworks on the tables. If you decide to purchase one, simply take the tag with the price to the table in the north hallway. You know, weve been celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the College of Fine Arts, but the arts have always been an essential part of the life and fabric of Illinois State University, dating clear back to 1857. One of the first faculty members at Illinois State was Chauncy Cady, conductor of the Chicago Music Union, hired as a part-time music teacher. Art Appreciation and Art History were introduced into the curriculum in the 1890s. Dance was part of many celebrations, including Dancing on the Green for May Day. In 1892, the Dramatic Club presented Shakespeares Merchant of Venice. And the highlight of the 1897 Commencement Ceremony was a production of Gilbert and Sullivans H.M.S. Pinafore. And now, the Madrigal Singers perform Fair Robin, a piece composed by Illinois State University alum Dennis Tobenski.
