Give the pupils window cards to students and ask the question:
answer. Can we divide 22 pieces of peanuts
Gr. 1 - Addition cards exactly by 2? (Yes)
Gr. 2 – Subtraction cards
Grade 1 & 2 pupils Grade 3 pupils

A. Exploration
I will show another examples:
34 peanuts
36 peanuts
48 peanuts
40 peanuts

What have you observed in the given

numbers? (they are even numbers)
Can the given numbers be divided exactly
by 2 without any remainders? (yes, no)
When can we say that the number is
divisible by 2? (When the quotient is exact
or there is no remainder)

B. Explanation
There is a short cut way to tell if a number
is divisible by 2. I will go back to the
numbers that I showed and ask the
following questions.
32 34 36 38 40

What is the last digit of the given numbers?

(2,4,6,8,0)
What are these numbers? (even numbers)
What are we going to do so that by just one
look of the number, we can directly say that
the number is divisible by 2? (we will look
at the last digit of the number if it is even or
odd number)
What kind of numbers are divisible by 2?
(even numbers)
So, all even numbers are divisible by 2.
Why is it important to know the divisibility
of 2? (to know the shortcut way of solving
it, to save time and energy in solving)

read a situation and I will call pupil D. Evaluation
volunteers to answer my questions Directions: Box the last digit and put check
through the use of the calendar. if the number is divisible by 2.

Situation:  525
Martha's Aunt is in Singapore. She  662
asks Martha to tell her mom that she  378
will go home 2 months from now. She  7898

What possible week that she'll be reason why the number is divisible by 2.
home? (2nd week) 662-
In what date she likes to be home? 378-
(April 14th) 7898-

B. Exploration

Present another situation to the

pupils.

Teacher Jo is in Cebu but his family is

in Mindanao. He didn't go home 1
year, because he is very busy teaching
his students. He is planning to go
home this summer vacation. He has a
plan to stay there for 1 week. After his
visit to his family, he is planning to fly
to Hong Kong for his 1 month study
leave.

Grade 1 & 2 pupils Grade 3 pupils

In how many years wasn't Teacher Jo

able go home? (1 year)
In what month does Teacher Jo plan to
go home to Mindanao? (April or May)
In how many weeks does Teacher Jo
plan to stay in Mindanao? (1 week)
In how many months is her study
leave? (1 month)

C. Explanation
On the chart, paste the answers on the
students from the situations given
earlier and ask the following
questions.

1 week 1 month 1 year

(With the use of calendar)

How many days are there in 1 week?
(7 days)
How many weeks are there in 1
month? (4 weeks)
How many days are there in 1 month?
(30 or 31)
How many months are there in 1
year? (12 months)
How many days are there in 1 year?
(365 days)

So,
7 days= 1 week
4 weeks= 1 month
30 days= 1 month
12 months= 1 year
