SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION
This document contains the installation instructions for the Appareo AIRS-400 system installed on Part 27
helicopter as defined by this AML STC. Refer to the list of applicable helicopters in the STC.
The modification does not include the removal of existing equipment. If the locations and methods defined in
this install manual are not compatible with the rotorcraft where the system is to be installed, the installer must
seek additional FAA approval for the deviations to the design.
The STC will require a clear and unobstructed view of the instrument panel and center console for the AIRS 400
camera and a location on the glareshield which has an unobstructed view of the sky.
1.1 APPLICABILITY
The applicability of this installation manual is for those rotorcraft listed in this Part 27 AML STC list.
The installation personnel completing the modifications under this STC must have a working knowledge of the
aircraft being modified in all the required disciplines as well as general aviation practices. They must also be
familiar with the equipment being installed and have the applicable dealerships and current manuals to
complete the installation.
The following test equipment listed in Table 2-1 will be required for this installation:
Item Make Model Part Number Description
1. Laptop N/A N/A A PC with Appareo Playback and Configuration
SW. Laptop requires Windows 8.1 or 10.
2. Ethernet Cable N/A 353050-000091 Harness, Test, Ethernet Cable, Appareo
3. USB to Ethernet N/A N/A Adapter, USB to Ethernet. If PC does not have an
Adapter ethernet connection an adapter may be
necessary
4. Software N/A 500210-000009 Appareo Playback. Rev 20 or later revision.
5. Software N/A 500210-000010 Appareo Configuration Tool. Rev 20 or later

The software required to configure and test the system is the Appareo Playback, P/N 500210-000009, Rev R20
or later revision and Configuration Tool, P/N 500210-000010, Rev R20 or later revision. This software will be
available from Appareo.
2.4 PREREQUISITES
necessary to ensure all audio signals are being received by the AIRS-400. This interface is not
included in this STC.
The equipment approved for installation as part of this STC are listed in Table 2-2:
Make Model P/N SW Level
Appareo AIRS-400 153510-000170 501010-000265R01

Table 2-2 Approved Equipment
This section defines the electrical loads of the equipment removed and the equipment installed. The installer is
responsible to ensure that the electrical load on any of the buses or sub-buses do not exceed 80% of circuit
protection’s rated load for that bus.
2.7.1 REMOVED
No equipment was removed from the rotorcraft as part of this modification unless the AIRS-400 is removing an
existing Appareo Vision 1000 system. If that is the case, refer to Table 2-3 for the change in electrical load:
Removed Equipment – DC 14/28 Bus
Drawing Load
Circuit Breaker Electrical Bus Reference Description (Amps)
CAMERA (1). N/A Vision 1000 0.125 (2)
Table 2-3 Removal of Electrical Loads
(1) The AIRS-400 must be powered from the most critical bus on the rotorcraft to ensure the system
remains functional during all phases of electrical failure. It should not be installed on the hot battery
bus. If this location does not meet these requirements then the circuit breaker must be relocated to
comply.
(2) The Vision 1000 had an electrical load analysis 606586-000047 that stated the nominal load was 125
mA.
2.7.2 INSTALLED
The following equipment was installed in the rotorcraft as part of this modification. Ref to Table 2-4:

This section defines the weight and balance of the equipment removed and the equipment installed. Since this
is an AML STC, the installer must enter the station and butt line locations to complete the weight and balance
calculation. The installer is responsible to ensure that the C of G for the rotorcraft does not exceed the limits
defined in the rotorcraft maintenance manual.
2.8.1 REMOVED
The following equipment and parts would be removed if this is replacing an Appareo Vision 1000 system on the
rotorcraft as part of this modification If this is a new installation then this is not applicable. Refer to Table 2-5:

This is the instructions to complete ground functional testing. This will be conducted after the installation is
complete and all systems on the aircraft are functional.
Ensure the rotorcraft is located away from large metal structures that could impact the function of the GPS or
the outcome of the EMI/RFI testing. The test should be conducted where the rotorcraft can run the engine and
be moved around.
Before conducting this test, ensure all requirements of Section 6.2 have been successfully completed.
Refer to Table 2-1 for equipment to be used in this setup. This test assumes the audio interface is part of the
installation. For installations where the audio interface is not connected, the installer will need to note the time
when each step is started and completed so the steps can be properly verified during playback.
1. Start the rotorcraft engines and conduct the following test with engines running.
a. With someone in the back of the rotorcraft, have them state they are conducting the clap test. Clap
twice about 12“ from the back of the AIRS-400.
b. When interfaced [required for EMS, FDMS operations]; With at least a person in the pilot’s and
copilot’s seat complete the following ICS checks:
i. The conversation should note a start and end of the conversation this test is for ICS system
ii. Using headsets, maintain a conversation varying the use each of the headsets located in the
aircraft until all headset locations have been exercised for at least 15 seconds.
c. When interfaced [required for EMS, FDMS operations]; Tune navigation systems in the aircraft that
have audio input and verify they can be heard in the headsets.
i. Note over the headset what systems are being operated and when they the test is
completed.
ii. Operate these systems so the audio is recorded for no less than 15 seconds for each system.
(the recording time can be combined)
d. Note over the ICS that directional checks will be conducted.
e. Hovering, point the rotorcraft in each of the cardinal directions for at least 5 seconds.
f. Note over the ICS which direction the rotorcraft is pointing as they are accomplished.
g. Land rotorcraft.
h. Ensure the Laptop has downloaded the recorded data from the AIRS-400.
i. Power down rotorcraft.
j. End of test.
Gain access to the SD card located in the AIRS-400. Remove the SD and insert into the laptop’s SD reader a
connected external unit. Using the Appareo Playback software 500210-000009 verify the following:
1. Where applicable, verify the audio data recorded in Section6.4 Steps 1a-1c is clear and distinguishable.
2. Verify the positional data on the AIRS-400s align with the instructions on the recorded audio and the
positional information on the video recording.
Pass Fail N/A Comments
3. Verify the video recorded is clear and information on instruments in the instrument panel and center
console can be distinguished upon review.
Pass Fail N/A Comments
The installer is responsible to conduct the following EMI/RFI test before returning to service.
To complete this EMI/RFI test, ensure the requirements of Section 6.3 are still met.
The installer will complete the following source/victim testing of the AIRS-400 system with engines running.
Table 6-1 defines the aircraft systems susceptibility criteria for this test. If a system is not installed on the
