1. Do not open computer units casing, radar console and navigational console cabinets,
it may cause electrical shock.

2. Do not insert USB flash drive, compact disks, or other external devices in the desktop
computers.

3. Do not turn off or reset the computers, unless instructed/assisted by the instructor or
assessor.

4. Do not bring food or refreshments, mobile phone, and camera inside the laboratory
room.

In Case of Abnormal Operation

1. Any abnormal sound, operation, smoke occurrence or abnormal smell report


immediately to your instructor or simulator technician for proper action.

In Case of Fire

1. Sound general alarm, call the Master, stop main engines and advise engine room,
unless circumstances dictate otherwise.
2. Establish & note position, course and speed at time of impact then mark it on the
chart, record all sound signals made/heard/seen then enter all records in log book.
3. Switch on deck lighting at night, exhibit light / shapes according to COLREGS 72 as
amended, then take sounding of all tanks and bilges and assess rate of any tank
leakage.
4. In case of oil spill, refer to SOPEP/SMPEP or VRP plan (if within USA territorial
waters).
5. Calculate draft differences after grounding and consider ballasting to hold vessel in
place and/or de-ballasting to refloat vessel.
6. Check weather forecast, assess meteorological conditions in the area then determine
the nature of seabed and state of tide.
7. Check cargo, fuel, steam, hydraulic pipes and valves for damages and collect
evidence applicable to the incident as per working instructions.

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
Exercise Title: Assisting a ship in distress

Cadet must demonstrate the following: Pass Fail


1. Assess the situation, fix own position, and gather as much information as possible
about the nature of the distress and the number of people on board, as well as the
ship's location, the type of distress (e.g., fire, sinking, medical emergency)
2. Inform the relevant marine authorities of the distress scenario, such as the harbor
master, coast guard, or maritime rescue coordination center. Give them all the
pertinent information that was discovered throughout the evaluation.
3. Establish communication with the distressed ship to obtain further details, provide
reassurance, and coordinate assistance efforts.
4. Provide help to the distressed ship using the abilities and resources available; assist
evacuated personnel with medical attention, firefighting assistance, towing, or rescue
operations.
5. Keep a close eye on the situation and maintain contact with the ship in distress and
other responding parties to make sure all aid is given until the issue is handled.
6. Discuss any insights gained, offer support and a debriefing to those who participated
in the response.
