2024 hattrick.org new manager guide

updated March 2024

This guide will help kickstart your career in hattrick.org. However, if you are daytrader or similarly
advanced user it likely has nothing to offer to you.

First, what to expect from this game timewise: At start there’s lots of info to take in. You may spend days
just reading and learning the various rules and mechanics of hattrick. But once you soak it all in you
may find you only spend less than 20 minutes weekly just setting match orders and watching your long-
term strategy unfold.

So right now if you are overwhelmed, if you think you don’t have enough time to commit to hattrick,
just set up training as outlined below. Save all the research for later, go through it at your own pace. The
way this primer is set up, 8 months from now you will have decent amount of cash and a team which is
not commited to anything. Once you understand the game better and know what you want from it, you
will be free to actualize without issues.

Now let’s get to it.

Starting out
You got your team, you skimmed through the game manual, you completed the license. What now?
Hire two level 4 Assistant Coaches and a level 4 Doctor. Sign 16-week contract with all three.
Set training intensity to 100%. Set stamina training share to 10% and for now, save
http://iht.smdesign.es/en/Studies/Stamina-table (http://iht.smdesign.es/en/Studies/Stamina-table) for
future reference.
Choose a training type and buy appropriate players:

Appropriate player (in this context) has 17 years 35 days or less, has spec, and has inadequate main
skill and inadequate secondary skill. It’s also good if as many as possible of his other skills (except
goalkeeping) are at least weak.

Example of a youngster you want to buy if you set out to train Playmaking. Subskills (which are hidden but can be
approximated by using external utilities) of this specific player are likely low due to his relatively low TSI. Getting
him for 40k € or lower is a good bargain.

Ideally, you would want to buy 17 years 3 days old excellent/solid with spec, but obviously, you cannot
afford a player like that now. Keep in mind player age is extremely relevant to his market value –
compare the transfer list prices of, let’s say, 20 year-old and 22 year-old naked (no secondary skills)
supernatural (numerical skill value 14) midfielders.

Regarding training type, I suggest Playmaking, Scoring, Defending or Winger.

For the first few seasons your main objective will be to make money via training. Be consistent and do
not sacrifice training for results on the field.

It is important to utilize all your training slots: That means playing friendly every week (mid-season
even on weekends). Consequently, your training type will dictate the formations you will play.

Selling your first batch of trainees will provide you with significant amounts of cash. Selling at any point
between brilliant (11) and supernatural (14) will net full profit – relative to time spent training.

If you cannot decide set training to Scoring and buy 6 inadequate scoring/inadequate passing
youngsters with any spec except Powerful.

Overview of training types:

Playmaking training (10 youngsters): In the transferlist interface, filter by:

inadequate playmaking
inadequate passing
inadequate defending or scoring or wing
any spec
Note the prices, then set filter to:

inadequate playmaking
inadequate passing
any spec

Compare the prices and make your purchases (10 players in total). Depending on state of market, you
may or may not be able to afford few players fulfilling the first filter criteria. Buy the rest according to
the second set of criteria. In any case:

if the guy has head spec, buy him only if his passing or defending is inadequate or higher
if the guy has technical or unpredictable spec, buy him only if his passing is inadequate or higher
if the guy has powerful spec, buy him only if his defending is inadequate or higher. Alternatively,
buy him if both his passing and scoring is at least inadequate
if the guy has quick spec, buy him only if his winger is inadequate or higher. Alternatively, buy him
if both his passing and scoring is at least inadequate

Buy the same for 100% (inner midfielder) and 50% (winger) training slots. Designate 100% and 50% slot
players (put your best players into 100% slots) and do not mix them.
Example of a search filter to use when looking for youngsters to buy for Playmaking training.

Scoring training (6 youngsters): Set transferlist filter to:

inadequate scoring
inadequate passing
inadequate playmaking
any spec
and check the prices of players with these parameters. After that remove the playmaking filter, search
again, compare prices and then buy what you can afford. Any spec is good but do not buy Powerful if
playmaking is lower than inadequate.

Defending training (10 youngsters): Set transferlist filter to:

inadequate defending
inadequate passing
inadequate playmaking
any spec

and note the prices. After that remove the playmaking filter, search again, compare prices and buy what
you can afford. Quick and Unpredictable are the most valuable specs here, followed by Head and
Powerful (however do not buy Powerful if playmaking is lower than inadequate). Technical is probably
the least valued spec for defenders and wingbacks.

Crossing (Winger) training (8 youngsters): Filter transferlist by these criteria:

weak winger
inadequate playmaking
inadequate passing
inadequate scoring
unpredictable or quick spec

Note the prices then filter by:

inadequate winger
inadequate playmaking
inadequate (or weak) scoring
head or technical spec

And finally filter by:

inadequate winger
inadequate playmaking
any spec but powerful

Then make your purchases. If you were able to get any players fulfilling the first or second filter criteria,
let them play in 100% (winger) training slot. Fill the remaining 100% and 50% (wingback) slots with
players conforming to the third filter criteria. Alternatively for 50% slots you can also get inadequate
defending with head or quick spec in stead of playmaking. Designate 100% and 50% players and do not
mix them.

1 week into the game

At some point team secretary will offer you a player to accept into team for free. Following that, he will
also offer you immediate skill improvement for one of your players.
Example of the kind of player you will be asked to choose from to join your team
In both cases I’d recommend to boost/to get a player with playmaking, scoring, or winger. Just make
sure the players will not interfere with your training slots. You can simply sell them if you want but it
may be better to keep them. You will possibly get more league wins with them fielded which translates
to better league placement at the end of season, with corresponding financial reward.

2 weeks into the game

You are finished buying all the players for your training slots.

If you want to, start the Youth Academy. If you are not decided yet, keep your starting Youth Squad
Scout.
Every friendly you play should be international at home. It will improve your cashflow by a little
margin.

4 weeks into the game

Around this time you should have enough money to perform your very first stadium upgrade. Go to
https://nrgjack.altervista.org/tools/eco (https://nrgjack.altervista.org/tools/eco), and using the suggested
percentages, build as much as you can afford regardless of what the util recommends (do not knock
down anything). Match attendance is based on size of your fan club. Because you have a new team, new
fans will come in relatively great numbers, until you reach about 1400 fans. It is only from this point on
when arena utility calculations regarding suggested amount of seats become accurate. Because of this, in
this first upgrade, it’s safe to just build as much as you can afford.

7 weeks into the game

Time to start planning for your future coach.

As soon as you have enough money, buy one player with solid leadership and passable experience (his
skills, personality etc. are irrelevant but he shouldn’t be older than ~37 years due to long healing time if
he gets injured). Keep fielding this player in all cup and league games so he develops at least solid
experience and eventually (at least 16 weeks) he will be ready to be converted into solid coach. The more
experience he has (subskill counts too), the cheaper his conversion to coach will be.

It’s okay to keep your starting coach for the first two, or three seasons but no longer than that. You want
solid coach so your training is as cost-effective as possible.

16 weeks into the game

Hire two level 5 assistant coaches. Some managers would also recommend hiring level 5 doctor at this
time.

20 weeks into the game

You should have enough funds to start your second arena upgrade around this time. Generally, if you
sell out a league game, you should’ve had already upgraded.

Consider buying more solid leadership/passable experience guys to field so you can sell them for profit
when they develop solid experience. However do a market research first – due to fluctuating prices this
endeavour may not be profitable.

35 weeks into the game

If you feel like it, sell your first batch of trainees now (this is the earliest I would recommend selling
them). Timing is important. You will get the most buck for your bangs around the first two-three rounds
of an ingame season (weeks 1-3). Also, if you can, always list your players at european late afternoon or
evening.
It’s not a bad idea to sell half your trainees, refresh the freed-up slots with new younglings and keep on
training these two batches.

Use the cash for doing whatever you deem the most fun – focus on building 100% homegrown team
(https://www.hattrick.org/en/Community/Press/?ArticleID=22490
(https://www.hattrick.org/en/Community/Press/?ArticleID=22490)), buy excellent coach and help out
your national and U20 teams, start executing your long-term plan for dominance
(https://hattrickportal.pro/Utils/PlayerTrainingPlan.aspx
(https://hattrickportal.pro/Utils/PlayerTrainingPlan.aspx)), or just leave the money in your war chest.

Another option is to sell all your trainees, set stamina training share to 100% and buy 36+ old players in
order to get competitive results now.

And this is it, basically. Remember, the #1 priority in hattrick (and, in extension, in everything else you
do in life) is to have fun.

PS: Do not hesitate to ask for help on the game forums or hattrick subreddit. It’s okay to ask and there
will be plenty of managers eager to answer you.
