start

• SE9734 Pressure sensor OBW boom B

(Rod side)
• SE9733 Pressure sensor OBW boom A
(Piston side)

• Out of these 2 values the system is

calculating the active lifting pressure
• Both sensors are preprogrammed with a
unique IP-address to identify the
sensors in the system

Onboard Weighing
Principles
Operation

• The calculation uses the pressure value

of the boom cylinder and the position
P data of the bucket.

L • L= Machine distance to load

• P= Hydraulic pressure in boom cylinder

• As longer the lever as higher is the

pressure for the same load

Onboard Weighing
Principles
Weighing Process

• The weighing process only works when

lifting the boom
• A certain boom movement is needed to
calculate the load
• Status of calculation is shown in

Tool Weight Calibration
Tool Weight Calibration

NOTE!
• Before calibrating the tool weight, the
Onboard Weighing system must be
calibrated.

NOTE!
• If the machine is equipped and
calibrated with a fixed bucket, this
procedure is not necessary.
• From DA 4.0 on, it is possible to use
tool calibration when exchanging fixed
mounted buckets. No need to perform
complete linkage calibration again!

Onboard Weighing
Tool Weight Calibration
Start Tool Calibration

buckets get worn out

• Check, that all prerequisites are fulfilled

to start the calibration

Onboard Weighing

Check Bucket Calibration
When to do?

• Recommended after:
– System calibration

• If there is a difference in the weight
measured by a reference scale, you can
set an adjustment value in % of the total
calculated weight of the OBW system.

digging application, an overpressure
warning occurred when digging

Onboard Weighing
Pressure Sensor
New Parts for Pressure Sensor

• Previous Type: 260bar

• Current Type: 400bar

• The new sensors have different CAN-

Bus ID`s. An assessory kit must be
applied when changing to new type of
sensor.

• After exchanging the sensors, system

calibration is required.

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Performance

• How to reach highest accuracy with

Onboard weighing

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Lubrication of Bearings

• Constant and equal lubrication of the

bearings is necessary for a constant
accuracy

• A central lubrication system is

recommended for operations with
Onboard Weighing

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 1

• Oil temperature above 40°C (104°F)

• The warm hydraulic oil must be

distributed in the whole hydraulic
system, especially in the boom cylinders

• It is recommended to warm up the

machine with digging movements

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 2

• Place the machine on stable and level

ground

• Then smaller the pitch and role angle of

the machine then better the weighing
result

• Avoid movements of the machine body

during the weighing cycle. Use blade
and outriggers if possible.

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 3

• Smooth and equal lifting of the boom

• The lifting movement of the boom

needs to be smooth with no shaking or
jerky movements

• Lift speed should be moderate but not

too slow

• Start/stop of the lift should also be

smooth.

• The movement should continue with

constant speed for as long as possible to
get the best result

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 4

• Longer lift will get better data for the

system to qualify the weight

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 5

• Slow swing during lift

• While lifting the material the swing

movement should be kept to a minimum

• If swinging, the swing acceleration and

speed should be kept as low as possible
with smooth starts and stops

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 6
1
• Material heap centered in bucket (1)

• It is very important that the bucket is

filled to capacity without being
overloaded (2+3)

• Moreover the material heap needs to be

consistently centered (4)

2 3 4
• If the material heap changes between
different lifts the weighing function will
not perform according to the desired
expectations

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 7

• No shake off during lift

• It is vital that the lifting movement is

smooth and that material in the bucket is
not dropping of during the lifting
movement

• Therefore it is not recommended to

shake of material during lifting since
this will give a false weight.

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 8

• Arm near vertical during lifting

• The arm should be in a near vertical

position during the lift phase to achieve
the best weighing results

• If the bucket is very close to the

machine or near maximum reach the
weighing might not perform as expected

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Tip No. 9

• Do not lift bucket through material

• Ensure that the bucket is free from the

surrounding material as soon as possible
when lifting the bucket for weighing

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Summary

• Greasing of the bearings performed

according to OM
• For the active bucket, regular
calibration of the tool weight must be
performed to compensate for wear.
• Temperature of the hydraulic oil
between 40°C and 60°C (104°F and
140°F).
• Inclination of the machine between -2°
and + 2°
• Avoid extreme positioning of tilt bucket
or tiltrotator
• Extend Boom to the end stop

• The COG must be adjusted for special

bucket shapes

Onboard Weighing
Improve Performance
Summary

• Calibration of Body IMU and Linkage

as precise as possible
• Mounted quick coupler measured as
precise as possible
• Active bucket calibration as precise as
possible
• Tilt bucket and Tiltrotator calibration as
precise as possible (if applicable)
• Bearings of the linkage without
clearance

Onboard Weighing
Onboard Weighing

Summary

• The more accurately Onboard Weighing is performed , the greater

the precision will be later during projects

• Bucket calibration needs to be carried out regularly to compensate

for mechanical wear
