TYPE OF
PRINTER

LASER PRINTER
1) A photo, graphic or text image is sent to the printer, which begins the process of transferring
that image to paper using a combination of positive and negative static electric charges.
2) The revolving drum gets a positive charge. The laserThe system's electronics convert the
image into a laser beam.
3) beam bounces off a mirror onto the drum, drawing the image on the drum by burning a
negative charge in the shape of the image.
4) Then the drum picks up the positively charged toner from the toner cartridge. The toner
sticks to the negatively charged image on the drum.
Solid ink printer

A laser-class printer that uses solid wax inks that are melted into a liquid before being used. Instead of jetting the ink onto the paper directly as inkjet printers do,
solid ink printers jet the ink onto a drum. A better registration of color is obtained by transferring the ink to the drum first and then to the printer, because the
drum can be more tightly controlled than moving paper
LED PRINTER
Similar to a laser printer LED printers are non-impact but use a light-emitting diode instead of a laser in the printhead. LED
printers were initially developed by Casio and function by focusing light across the entire length of the drum, thus creating
areas that are less charged, which attracts toner. The printer then transfers the toner from the drum to the paper and
applies intense heat to fuse the toner to the paper.
DOT MATRIX PRINTER

In a dot matrix printer, the characters and letters are formed by a matrix of
dots. A print head, which has many pins in it, moves in the required direction
and strikes against a cloth ribbon which is soaked in ink, making a mark on
the paper. The dots are spaced closely in a particular shape to make the
intended character. This looks quite similar to the printing mechanism of
typewriters and daisy wheel printers. However, dot matrix printers are
different in the sense that many different characters and graphics can be
printed. A character printed by a DMP is actually an accumulation of many
such dots on a small area of the paper.
Advanvantages
of printer
Secure Delivery
Ease of Reading
Ease of Use
Reasonably fast
DISADVANTAGES
PRINTER
1) Print head is less durable, prone to clogging and damage

2) Expensive replacement ink cartridges

3) Not good for high volume printing

4) Printing speed is not as fast as laser printers

5) Ink bleeding, ink carried sideways causing blurred effects on some papers

6) Aqueous ink is sensitive to water, even a small drop of water can cause blurring

7) Cannot use highlighter marker on inkjet printouts
