Fact Check

No, 'Snow White' remake is not the lowest-rated movie ever on IMDb

The live-action film was the target of review bombing — but there were lower-rated films on the website, as of this writing.

Claim:
As of late March 2025, the live-action movie "Snow White" had become the lowest-rated movie ever on Internet Movie Database (IMDb).
Context

As of this writing, the rating for this movie on IMDb was 1.5 stars. A ranking of the worst-rated movies on the website showed there were worse-rated ones, for example "Saving Christmas," with 1.3 stars, and "Daniel the Wizard" and "Smolensk," each with 1.2 stars. However, because "Snow White" was the target of review bombing on the site, its rating was still in flux.

A week after Disney's live-action version of "Snow White" opened in theaters in March 2025, claims began to circulate that it had become the worst-rated movie on IMDb, a website dedicated to providing exhaustive information on audiovisual content from films to television series and video games.

For example, on March 26, 2025, someone posted on X that "Snow White" was "officially the worst movie of all time" on the website, adding screenshots of the movie's page showing a 1.7 rating out of 10 (archived):

As of this writing, the post had gained 18.1 million views and 167,000 likes. The same user replied to the post seven hours later (archived), saying that the rating had dropped to 1.6. On March 28, 2025, at the time of this writing, the rating had dropped once again to 1.5, with 203,000 reviews (archived):

However, a search of the worst-rated movies on IMDb revealed movies with lower ratings. While no film was rated 1.4 stars, two were rated 1.3 ("Foodfight" and "Saving Christmas") and another two were rated 1.2 ("Daniel the Wizard" and "Smolensk"), though all those movies received much lower numbers of reviews.

As such, we have rated the claim about "Snow White" as false.

However, the situation could still change. Indeed, the movie, which starred Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the evil queen, had been the target of "review bombing," a phenomenon in which hordes of internet users give one-star ratings, usually with malicious intent.

The review bombing was a result of the fact that the film had been steeped in controversy even before its premier. In August 2024, Zegler, who is Colombian American, shared on X a post thanking fans for the millions of views on the "Snow White" trailer. In a second post replying to the first, she added "free Palestine," referring to the war between Israel and Gaza (archived):

This second post garnered 14.7 million views as of this writing, nearly five times more than her first post on the trailer. Meanwhile, her co-star Gadot, who is Israeli, was the target of death threats due to her nationality, forcing Disney to pay for added security, according to a Vanity Fair report

Later, reviews of the movie were mixed, earning it a 42% on Rotten Tomatoes. "When less than 60% of reviews for a movie or TV show are positive, it is considered Rotten and a green splat is displayed," the website's "About" page reads. While many of the reviews compiled on Rotten Tomatoes praised Zegler's performance, they also suggested it wasn't enough to "save" the film. Several panned Gadot's performance.
