It always amuses me PHP people think perl is stupid and vice versa.
Both languages have their use case, sometimes I even use them side by
side in the same project. PHP daemons and forking is not exactly what
I would depend on working reliably.

Exactly. There's a lot to improve and sometimes it can be done with
little to now bc breaks. (And some breaks I would not mind if done
right and for the right reasons).
