Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendu-Marquette Williams.
Hi Kendu-Marquette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got my start early in 2016, with the drive of building a brand for myself but shortly a year later, I went through a tragic loss of losing a sibling. This gave me the determination to move forward and encourage people with my story of losses, survival and growth.
From being homeless, dealing with depression and anxiety I taught myself the proper way to overcome and achieve.
Today, I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities but I continue to remind myself and my peers around to keep moving forward amidst your struggles. They do define who you are but prepare you for a greater calling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey isn’t easy as it may seem, but it builds character. My struggles along the way were; there was times where I didn’t have money to even survive but I kept faith within myself and continued to push my brand. I often felt like if I gave up, I would be letting my brother down.
In 2018, ‘19 and ‘20, the journey of overcoming depression while allowing my art speak for itself was extremely present. I became more aware of my shortcomings and facing my traumas to only lead me to my most successful collection to date. It was about being truthful with myself that allowed me to continue.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create artistic streetwear titled “ART IV PLAY”, I specialize in artistic streetwear for free people. I also curate events, pop up shops and more.. one thing that I would be proud of is to see people be inspired by my story and it motivates them to expand their horizons and go after what they believe in.
What sets me apart from others would be… I move on love, I give from a place that I never had and only want the best for the next person.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m a huge music lover, whenever I need inspiration or anything I know I can count on music!
