Conversations with De’Asia Braxton

Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Asia Braxton.

Hi De’Asia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in 2018 after graduating high school and going out into the real world I began working at Adesa Houston as a check-in clerk. I worked there for two and a half years. During that time I learned so much from how to work with other people and also how to manage things it was not always easy. Working there taught me the meaning of diversity. My journey ended there in 2020 because I knew I wanted more so I started college and I majored in health science. After the first three months, I knew that college was not for me well at least not that specific career path. I feel like I was only doing it to please others but I was not truly happy. I’ve always had a passion to help others so in 2021 I did a little searching and I found esthetics. I applied to Ogle Beauty School which is where my journey as an esthetician started. Honestly, this is only the beginning for me I have so much I want to accomplish. I want to continue to reach out to my community. My goal is to make a safe place for men and women to come to get pampered.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will not say that my life was a rough road, yet it was not the smoothest. This particular road has shaped me into becoming the young woman I am today without regrets. Some of my struggles were realizing that not everyone is going to support your dreams even your family. I had to learn that when you have a vision and no one else can see it just go for it. There were many nights when I second-guessed myself because of the negativity around me. I had to take a look around and appreciate the people who are in my corner and who are rooting for me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an esthetician that specializes in Facials, Body Contouring and Waxing my facials are what I’m most known for. What I’m most proud of is that I beat the odds and every day I learn something new. I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I’m always myself and when my clients come to me they know that they are in a safe place. Clients want to feel that they are in their own moment of zen and that is what I provide for all my clients.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about my city is that it is very diverse. What I least like about my city is that I feel that we do not uplift and support each other enough. Especially small businesses but I am thankful for Voyage Houston for bringing light to that because as a young entrepreneur it can get hard to put yourself out there when you feel like no one is supporting you.
