Main Responsibilities

Slonik — the PostgreSQL elephant mascot — is a much-loved symbol of our community. A human-sized costume is available for volunteers to wear and bring extra fun and visibility to the event. Attendees often enjoy taking photos with Slonik, making this role a great way to spread positive energy and engagement.

This task usually involves **two volunteers**:

  • One volunteer wears the mascot costume (Slonik)
  • One volunteer acts as the guide, ensuring that Slonik can move around safely, interact with attendees, and avoid obstacles

Additional Notes

  • The volunteer wearing the costume should take frequent breaks, as visibility and ventilation inside the costume can be limited.
  • The guide should always stay close to Slonik, helping to navigate crowded areas, stairs, and doors.
  • Avoid standing too close to hot surfaces, open food areas, or equipment that might damage the costume.
  • Be mindful of children or attendees who may want to hug or photograph Slonik — always maintain a friendly and respectful interaction.
  • If photos are being taken, encourage attendees to tag the conference’s official social media accounts and use the event hashtag.
  • After use, return the costume to the organisers or registration desk so it can be cleaned and stored safely.
