about

Anticore (2004) was the last ACUMEN NATION album to feature Jamie Duffy as guitarist AND producer/engineer. The heaviest, angriest and most political of the AN releases, Anticore was written in the wake of 9/11, the 2nd Bush presidency, and the mass grave of lies and deceit the American public became privy to. Hard to believe that 20 years later, things have only gotten worse, if not more transparent.

The album was recorded and produced at the Cracknation Studios in Lombard IL in 2004. As the band pursued a heavier-music-minded audience, they made the mistake of signing to Crash Records, a low-level metal indie (perhaps known for releasing records by Chicago's Soil) who buried the album and provided zero promotion. This was the catalyst that eventually drove Eliot Engelman out of the band, but also a time-frame that saw Brian Elza enter. 5 years later, Elza, Dan Brill and Jason Novak would form CZAR.

The pinnacle of the ACUMEN NATION desire to meld metal and machine, "Anticore" is possibly the catalog piece that showcases their most slick production, with a dark, twisted thematic element and style throughout. The final ACUMEN album recorded as a "band", "Anticore" had yet to be released on Bandcamp... until its 20th anniversary in 2024.

Includes BONUS TRACKS, ALL ALBUM ARTWORK + LYRICS, plus RARE VIDEO CLIPS.

Acumen Nation Chicago, Illinois

Formed in 1988 as Acumen by Jason Novak, the band released several cassette demos in the early 90s. In 2000, Novak launched Crack Nation Records. Between 2002 and 2008 the band would release several more albums, tour and promote and play with side projects Czar, DJ? Acucrack and Fawn, but the death of long-time member Jamie Duffy in 2012 put the band on permanent hiatus. ... more
